Kiwi music festival and event connoisseur Red Rum Touring is set to cut the ribbon for the tenth year running at Summer Classic 2024, reeling in English drum & bass heavyweights Delta Heavy, Kiwi electronic producer Montell2099, Aussie Odd Mob, and more! Aotearoa’s Matakana Country Park in Matakana is slated to become a haven of immaculate sonic pulsations, dance, and great vibes as the impending Summer Classic 2024 is on the horizon. Sitting an hour’s journey from Auckland, attendees at this spectacle will bask in the presence of headliners Delta Heavy, Montell2099, dance music fanatics duo Sachi (Will Thomas and Nick Chrisp), and multi-genre bass music producer QUIX (Jono Schnell) under his alias Fredrick.
Australian EDM producers Elliot Struck aka Loods and Odd Mobb (Harry Hope) also make the card alongside UK act Bushbaby (Harry Bushby). Summer Classic will be Bushbaby’s final stop on his extensive tour of AUNZ, consisting of performances in Wellington, Melbourne, Christchurch, Perth, Sydney, etc. Brisbane’s Odd Mobb has also been on an extensive tour of Australia and New Zealand, with gigs scheduled until March 2024.
The spectacle at Summer Classic 2024 starts from 4 PM onwards on Waitangi Weekend with a stellar cast of deck magicians warming the dance floor. On the bill, you’ll find sibling DnB/house pair Bowden Brothers (Sam and Ben), duo Buttermilk, drum & bass DJ/producer Kayes (Erica Cookson), and Auckland-based house DJ Lunaa (Carrie Murphy).
The event comes full circle for DJ Lunaa, who took her first steps onto the music scene with SC. Lunaa notes, “Summer Classic was the festival where I decided I wanted to DJ, so I’m absolutely honored to be joining this insane lineup for 2024! Taking about her upcoming set, DJ Lunaa shares,” I’ve been collecting a range of different edits over the summer, from all things house to heavy UKG and I cannot wait to share them all with you. Excited for a boogie, see you on the dance floor!!”
For music producers Gabby Pittar and Zo, together known as Buttermilk, their set at Summer Classic 2024 will be the last big festival of the summer season. They informed us that they are “beyond excited” to play at the festival, remarking, “Seeing our name on the same lineup as so many big names is never not a pinch me moment. We’re equally stoked to be working with Red Rum for the first time, and – although it goes without saying – are super grateful for the opportunity.”
Giving us a pulse of what their performance will sound like, they went on to convey, “With the Summer Classic being our last big festival of the summer season (how lucky to even be able to say that!) we’ll be pulling out all the stops. Our tried and true formula of hard house, melodic techno, and a sprinkle of garage can be expected – what we know and love. We’re also hoping to spotlight some unreleased, or recently released, tracks from local producers Jacob Barber, Matty the Friend, and Tom Newman. As per all of our sets, you can expect high energy, nice heavy basslines and to be kept on your toes!”
