Trance Effect Address the Intricacies of Love and Loss on ‘Overrated’

With captivating music already illuminating their resume, Nagaland’s pop-rock outfit Trance Effect elevates their musical prowess on their new release.

Alternative/indie-pop-rockers Trance Effect have released their newest tune ‘Overrated,’ offering a teaser for their upcoming new EP ‘Are We There Yet?’ ‘Overrated’ gallops away from the upbeat and cheery sonics of their music (‘Blue Sweatshirt,’ ‘It Took Me a While,’ and ‘We’re Gonna Make It’) and presents a more somber tone with a myriad of emotions.

While delving into the complexities of love and loss, the themes of resilience and resistance are explored via this melancholic beat. The lyrics craft an alluring portrait, tracking a tale of heartbreak to self-discovery and self-acceptance.

‘Overrated’ is nearly four minutes of elegant production, constructed with charmed vocals, mild guitar components, and temperate percussive action. Almost two minutes in, we are caressed with glossy guitar action as the music builds to its hooky chorus.

Trance Effect – ‘Overrated’

Trance Effect’s drummer Sosang Lkr suggests that ‘Overrated’ is cut from the same cloth as their last release ‘Blue Sweatshirt,’ with vocalist Iuli Yeptho also sharing on social media that the lyrics and melody came about while they were wrapping up with this previous release.

“The song just came to us naturally when Iuli and I went into the studio to finish mixing ‘Blue Sweatshirt,’ the words and melody seemed to appear out of nowhere, driven by the energy and creativity of the moment,” says drummer Sosang Lkr. “Every word we wrote along with our producer felt like a step towards healing and understanding, defying the notion of being ‘Overrated.'”

‘Overrated’ by Trance Effect is currently streaming on all audio platforms and is accompanied by a music video directed by filmmaker Meren Jamir.
