Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Anoushka Sivasankar, who goes by just Anoushka, explores the internal conflict between admiration and individuality in her latest single, ‘Just Like You.’
Since her debut with ‘Song of the Seas,’ Anoushka has stamped quite an impression on the indie scene with her powerful voice, songwriting, musical expression, and composition. Her subsequent music releases ‘You Ain’t Coming Back’ and ‘Anomalies’ ascertain her claim as a genre-fluid artist delivering layouts of jazz, pop, soul, and dance music.
Anoushka’s newest offering ‘Just Like You’ stands out as a possible soundtrack for the approaching music festival season, dishing out a flawless vocal performance coupled with a feel-good pop-rock vibe. Opening with deep bass rumblings and lively drum patterns, the singer’s polished vocals passionately carry each lyric. Produced alongside composer-guitarist Fardeen Siddiqui and musician Shivam Trivedi, bopping horn segments and electric guitar riffs are weaved into the melody.
Its music video was produced and directed by Anoushka flanked by Riddhi Sonetta, Yash Renukdas, and Vivan Shukla on DoP duties. It incorporates a snippet of the sitcom The Office’s ‘America’s Next A Capella Sensation’ segment, the songwriter’s treasured TV show, and also discloses a few pleasant details, namely a magazine titled ‘JLY’ with Anoushka on the front and back cover, a license plate number that reads ‘FU 05 KK 4628,’ and a collage of music and movie posters.
Anoushka shared via email, “‘Just Like You’ is a reflection on the push-and-pull between wanting to be like someone you admire while maintaining your own identity. The song’s introspective lyrics, paired with catchy melodies, explore the balance between admiration and personal independence.”
