TFword Spotlight: New Music Releases from Saachi, Arjun C and More

A song that talks about desiring familiarity in a frequently changing world, several R&B-style compositions, an artist who scored music for an animated future, and more are explored in this list.

Jeanne Merchant – ‘Tell Me’

Singer-songwriter and lauded vocal coach Jeanne Merchant straps her silky vocal textures onto a sizzling R&B melody on her newest single, ‘Tell Me.’ Released under the Merchant Records banner and produced by Anshuman Sharma, this soulful pop ditty dives into the inner turmoil of a relationship that has taken a sour turn.

Elevated by Jeanne’s velvety voice, the melody is easy on the ear with its polished pop marks and jazzy-soul vibes. Stitched in are groovy funk undertones that become more prominent toward the outro of the song. Written, performed, and composed by Jeanne Merchant, she described the song as “a reflection of honesty, of asking difficult questions when love turns into silence.”

Shreya Jain, Somanshu – ‘Hum Dono’

Singer-songwriter Shreya Jain and self-taught producer-singer Somanshu partnered up for a slick new dance bop titled ‘Hum Dono.’ The duo describes a bittersweet tale of two people who completely understand each other and live in the torment of their suppressed emotions as they are unable to pair up.

Somanshu’s skillful production constructs a groovy desi-pop beat that fuels this heart-rending composition. Shreya and Somanshu delicately layer their mild vocals onto this rhythm with a passion and tenderness that corresponds with the tragic lyrics.

Saachi – ‘Cruise Control’

Via her newest single, Mumbai-based singer-songwriter artist Saachi urges listeners to trot away from that inner voice that keeps demanding more from you and makes you feel that you’re constantly falling behind.

The alternative/indie-pop piece unfurls to snapping drum flows and picky bass tugs to map out a groovy R&B tune. Produced by Saachi and arranged by Ankit Dayal, Saachi delivers an easygoing vocal performance, aligning with the messaging of the song, while keyboardist Brent Tauro shines the melody with wavy, almost eerie-like synth patches.

“I wrote this song as a reminder to myself that my inner voice cannot win against the version of me that chooses love, laughter, and joy,” Saachi stated via a press release. “But on closer inspection of the song and its message, I found that we need to let go of our inhibitions and perfectionist tendencies. We need to just have fun and capture the essence of cruising.”

Released on the back of E.L.T., ‘Cruise Control’ points the way to her upcoming debut album.

Arjun C – ‘Miracle Man’

Delhi/Gurgaon-based alternative indie musician Arjun C drummed up his latest release, ‘Miracle Man,’ smelting a smoking hot pop-rock score twined with flashy synths and upbeat tones. Usually one to keep hushed about the themes of his music, the singer-songwriter did us a solid and disclosed, “This song has a little to do with getting older in a world that is quick, almost eager, to leave you behind.”

Using fast-paced guitar action, synths, and sturdy drum patterns, Arjun C creates a snazzy tune from the get-go, instantly igniting shoegaze and electronic-rock elements. As far as a listener’s takeaway from this release, the artist cheekily conveyed, “To be 10% more hopeful than they were before having heard the song. And hopefully, not hate themselves when they accidentally catch themselves humming the melody as they go about their day.”

Lotus – ‘Share A Piece’

Wrapped around themes of looking for something familiar in a world that is constantly altering is Bangalore/Pune-based rockers Lotus’ new single titled ‘Share A Piece.’ Its lyrics serve as a reminder that distances develop as life moves ahead, though we try to cling to the “now” moments.

Lotus opens this track with raw, almost manic, drum and cymbal beatings brushed with aggressive electric guitar chords; the composition swirls between post-rock and a heavier prog-rock rhythm, matched with frontman Aman Verdi’s vocal dexterity, be it clear and smooth vocal sections or unhinged growling. On this single, you’ll find seething guitars and clanging bass yanks and a catchy sing-along lyric in “So high, so far, from home.”

According to the group, “‘Share A Piece’ is more than just a song—it’s a reflection of growth, change, and the spaces that form between what we know and what we seek. It’s Lotus finding its voice again, stronger and clearer than before.”

Its visualizer video arrives from the workstation of musician Chinmay Patkar (Corner Cafe Chronicles) and depicts a suited figure darting through settings of a hedge maze, a bright hallway, and the streets before finally exiting the maze to arrive at a peaceful clearing.

Rahul Advani – ‘Where I Belong’

Mumbai-based talented singer-songwriter Rahul Advani scales his music to new avenues, writing, composing, and performing ‘Where I Belong,’ the lead single from the soundtrack of the independent Indian animated mini-series ‘Domain8.’ The series, from MAMI Golden Gateway Award winner Karan Asnani, is set in a dystopian future and revolves around restoring the autonomy of the internet.

Opening to a bleak, dreary soundscape framed with haunting keys and grim guitar chords, bright piano notes kick in along with Rahul’s emotive vocals. The music evolves to a more melancholic rock score lined with an edgy rock production, flawlessly capturing a journey through a dystopian tale. Produced by Mondeblue, indie musicians Ankush Boradkar, Gopal Thakare, and Siddharth Shenoy provide the backing vocals, while the fuming electric guitar parts arrive courtesy of Shahrukh Makani.

On this outing, Rahul fulfills a childhood dream of composing and singing for an animated feature and goes on to transmit the pursuit of hope and a home in a tyrannical vicinity.
