A Greener Future (AGF) has revealed its 2025 list of festivals that are doing their part to reduce emissions and waste.
The non-profit organization has certified Portugal’s Boom Festival, the electronic music festival DGTL in Amsterdam, the Norwegian multi-genre music festival Øyafestivalen, and Berlin’s electronic music festival Paradise City as “Outstanding” in its 2025 report.
Festivals and events across twelve countries are awarded on the basis of their efforts towards a greener planet to foster and protect biodiversity. Independent music, arts, and science festival – Green Man, East London’s Lido Festival, The Montreux Jazz Festival, and Spain’s music and gastronomic festival Sonidos Líquidos are certified “Highly Commended.”
AGF has categorized twenty-five events into four categories – Outstanding, Highly Commended, Commended, and Improvers. Independent assessors do site visits and produce share records after the event for review. Assessments include themes like energy, materials, food, water, and more. The festivals categorized as “commended” are the Copenhagen Film Festival Forum, Cridel pel Clima, India’s Echoes of Earth, the Estonian Fashion Festival, and The Godiva Festival, a three-day music festival held in England.
Electronic music festival giant Ultra Music Festival has been honored for the first time with an “Improver” certification. Latin American music festival Cordillera Festival, D’A Festival Cinema Barcelona, Elrow Town Madrid, Jardín de las Delicias, Spain’s Monegros Desert Festival, and Phe Festival join the “Improver” certification, alongside Rockygrass and Rocky Mountain Folks Festival held in Colorado, US; Barcelona’s Serielizados International TV Series Festival, Telluride Bluegrass Festival based in the USA, Primavera Sound Barcelona, and the UK’s We Out Here.
“Congratulations to all of the certified events in 2025, who have continued to prioritise their commitment to protecting our planet and each other, despite some so called world leaders demonstrating the opposite intentions. We’re looking forward to coming together and celebrating at GEI and the International AGF Awards in London next month,” AGF CEO Claire O’Neill stated.
Following their “Improver” certification from AGF, Vivian Belzaguy, Director of Sustainability of Ultra Music Festival, said: “It was an honour to finally participate in AGF’s certification programme, something we’ve aspired to do for years! The process challenged us to ask meaningful questions, recognise the impact we’ve made, and identify how we can continue to grow. We’re so proud to have achieved certification from this globally respected organisation and excited to continue participating in the programme in the future.”
