The Crew at The PhatHouse Brewery Bar are Excited and for good reason!!

It's The PhatHouse Brewery Bar's 5th Birthday and what better way to celebrate than with the legend Greg Churchill playing a 4 Hour set.

Greg Churchill is a rarity - someone labelled a legend who actually is.

In a career that started in 1984, (yes 40 years ago) he’s defined - and redefined - the art of DJing, performed with the heavyweights of house and techno and racked up UK chart hits, bagged a load of awards in the process and featured in a host of dance music publications along the way.

If it’s worth doing, Greg’s done it - and done it right.

New Zealand’s “Godfather of House” started out on student radio in Christchurch in 1984.

As the 90s neared, he and DJ Global Influence turned on the Garden City’s clubland to the house, hip hop and techno flooding out of the US and UK.

Auckland beckoned, and in February 1996 Greg took over the reigns of the legendary Box, where he cemented his reputation with long, mesmerising sets on three turntables.

The Box has been ranked in the Top 10 Clubs in the World by ID Magazine.

He was soon landing plaudits as a music-maker too. After meeting Darren Emerson on the 2002 Big Day Out tour, Greg signed to the Underworld man’s Underwater label (rated the #1 house/techno label by MixMag magazine in 2001)

Two years later he became only the third NZ-based recording artist to hit the UK pop singles charts, doing it twice, first with Budonkadonk in May 2004 and later that year with Body Slander/Wrong Sound.

His production CV includes releases and remixes on dance music heavyweights: Toolroom ,Ministry of Sound (UK), Azuli, Hed Kandi, Underwater, Great Stuff, Gung Ho, Bosh, Shaboom, Vicious Records, Huh, Universal Records and many more.

Along his journey Greg has played on warm up and support duties for the Carl Cox, Adam Beyer DJ Pierre, Deadmau5, Darren Emerson, DJ Sneak, Ashley Beedle, The Orb, Nick Warren, Sasha, John Digweed, Carl Craig, Dave Angel, Dave Clarke, Dave Seaman, Tomcraft, BT, Elite Force, Ian Pooley, Orbital, Rennie Pilgrem, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May , Sandy Riveria (KOT) Orbital …a list that stretches on and on.

Always eager to keep moving forward and never remain in the past Greg conquered the electro house scene as half of the nationally acclaimed Aural Trash alongside Angela Fisken also coinciding with their hugely popular radio show on George FM running from 2003 to 2014.

In 2015 spent 12 months hosting the ground breaking “In It For The Kicks” radio show Nick Collings on Radio Hauraki.

In 2016 Greg would later return to GeorgeFM in hosting “Friday’s Are Different” from 1-2pm till 2020.

After a production hiatus for the past decade Greg in 2022 unveiled a brand new label (Better Beats) alongside wife Leah Mathews aka ANNASASSIN to showcase their own individual productions.

In 2025 the fire and hunger for new and exciting music still burns as strong as ever.
