April Wu
The magic journey and transformation began five years ago when I first met the HuniKuin people in the Brazilian Amazon. Their medicine, songs, & way of being completely changed my life. I started to sing after two years learning with them, since then I am finding the healing power and the sacredness when we sing in a ceremony. I now bring this to Sacred Sessions as I share songs to bring joy and peace to the world and people’s heart and weave this energy into the beaded earrings I make as part of the HuniKuin tradition.
I don’t have a title, my job is to be April in this life. Whatever she wants to be, she has my full support.

Kaupapa Mission Statement
Created to provide a platform for & celebrate musicians that devote themselves to the healing of our communities through sacred sound - Sacred Sessions is a quarterly performative space ceremonially executed with a range of musicians that do this mahi throughout Aotearoa.
It's really important to us to create space where musicians can freely share, for them, & as we carry out the ceremony, musicians have a chance to share their whakaaro & interact with all present.
Your tautoko of this kaupapa means the cups of the 'medicine' musicians get filled supporting them to continue filling others all over Aotearoa.

Honouring wāhine ātaahua Komako-Aroha and a sacred haerenga she's embarking on, Komako-Aroha won’t be joining us THIS time ~ arohanui e kare, ngā manaakitanga ki a koe.
This opened up the opportunity for this session to evolve into something new, everything is perfect right?!
So, we excitedly welcome the addition of April Wu & Nikki Rhodes into the Sacred Sessions Muriwai ceremony.
April will be gracing us with her songs sung “to bring joy and peace to the world and people’s heart” and the wonderful Nikki will be facilitating a session designed to connect us deeper with ourselves, our intention and one another leading into the evening.

It’s so important to share the Sacred Sessions whakaaro and intention for this space as we journey with different cultures around the world. Cultural and indigenous appropriation is common throughout many communities, but not this one. With the appropriation awareness, many here share from different indigenous cultures - it is a non-negotiable that we honour the origins and carry this space with cultural and indigenous integrity of which we’ll continuously be learning. This is a crucial foundation of this space.
