Tempo Schmempo: Tāmaki Makaurau

After a slew of sold out parties at the top of the South Island over the past year, Tempo Schmempo is setting the lazers to stun and aiming our sights firmly on Tāmaki Makaurau!

For the uninitiated, Tempo Schmempo is a party unique unto itself. We began life as a slightly anarchic club night in East London in 2017, offering DJ’s a platform to express themselves irrespective of genre, era, or...you guessed it, tempo.

With diversity at the core of our ethos, the mission remains to celebrate each others’ differences through the music we love. As a result, expect a Tempo Schmempo party to take a dynamic journey through genres and subcultures - from dusty disco gems to obscure psychedelia, raw funk bombs to cutting edge electronic heaters - no stone is left unturned.

 

So what's in store this time? We’re very excited to have some of Auckland’s finest playing with us.

Better known by her DJ alias, Bontempo – Bonnie has earned her place as one of New Zealand’s breakout selectors in dance music. Introduced to the world of electronic music during her time living in Melbourne, she was taught to mix by friends and has never looked back. Bontempo began making her mark in NZ as a regular behind the booth at Club 121 and it wasn’t long before she was supporting acts such as Chris Stussy, Sally C, and Sandboards. Bontempo has a unique sound and is known for unleashing her selection of house grooves filled with deep smooth basslines and dreamy synths.

Originally hailing from Germany, SANOI aka Jonas Fisher is a producer, DJ and a key member in the electronic/dance music scene in Aotearoa. He has graced the stages of many of New Zealand’s most-loved festivals & clubs where his deeply danceable DJ sets see him move seamlessly across warm, melodic, groove-driven techno and beyond. SANOI has released a multitude of his own productions on a variety of respected local and European-based electronic-focussed labels, including Tube & Berger’s Zehn Records, Stil Vor Talent and New Zealand’s Beat & Path.These releases have seen SANOI be featured on an array of digital platforms and reach Number One on various Beatport single charts. Constantly developing as an artist and finding expression through music are some of the key factors that drive him, whether it be in the studio or behind the decks, SANOI has proven
he’s dedicated to the craft of providing meticulous, melodic and mischievous sets and sounds to dancers all around the world.

A Yorkshireman and a Kiwi meet in London. They drink beer, discuss music and become friends. They realise that they both like to play instruments and use DAW's. The pair have a vast array of musical influences, from post punk, krautrock and house to bass music, booming techno and electro. Fast forward a couple of years, The Yorkshireman moves to Auckland and links up with the Kiwi. They begin writing music together, throwing all their disparate influences into a melting pot, and Ferdishenko is born. Ferdishenko are Harry Wright and Oliver Crawford.

Tempo Schmempo is an event collective consisting of Dan Rainey (Everybody) Todd Bray (TwoToTango) and Fiona McMartin. Established DJ's in their own right, since 2017 the trio have combined their eclectic musical sensibilities with a tongue in cheek aesthetic that encourages party-goers to cast inhibitions aside and let their freak flags fly.

Collectively they have managed festivals, events and venues throughout the United Kingdom, Europe, USA, Australia and NZ while working with the likes of Glastonbury Festival, Boiler Room, Lollapalooza, Secret Cinema, Rhythm and Alps, Red Bull and many others.
