Released via No Binary Records, Mumbai-based musician Suvankar Mishra aka DeepBlue Seas’ new album ‘Lighthouse Fog’ methodically plunges into a chaotic mess of human emotions.
The artist rounds up indie staples Venugopal, Tejas Bailur, Joshua D’souza aka The Cheeseball Giant, and Maahir in his crew of collaborators to flesh out this record, touted as “a journey of self-discovery, fuelled by the unwavering hope that flickers even in the darkest corners.”
DeepBlue Seas’ latest seven-track album opens with the title track, ‘Lighthouse Fog,’ carried by poignant alternative melody, reflective lyrics and deliciously spiked by stellar electric guitar riffs. ‘Lost In Your Eyes’ belts out powerful vocal segments elevated by its old-school rock ballad feel, complete with a chiming key outro.
‘Pieces’ follows next, picking up gloomy sonics and oscillating between an experimental/alternative piece and a hard-rock tune. It is described as “a song that reflects on the slow process of healing and the strength found in piecing together a broken past.” Next up is ‘In Color Before Death,’ tied together with rhythmic percussive patterns and flowing string segments furnished with a steamy guitar solo.
‘Last Chance To Go Home’ drops in a post-grunge-esque composition meant to evoke “the bittersweet beauty of fleeting moments,” prompted by the cheery chirping of birds towards its end. ‘Over the Edge’ lyrically encourages listeners to be bold, face their features, and welcome the uncertainty that lies ahead.
‘Tomorrow’s Happiness,’ the shortest song on the EP, rallies with a velvety guitar riff opening and is seamed together with strummy acoustic guitar chords, mellow drum action, and raspy vocals. Through its meticulously laid out tracklist, ethereal harmonies, and relatable themes, akin to a lighthouse beacon piercing through dense fog, DeepBlue Seas takes you on an exploration of hope and resilience.
Via press release, the artist stated, “‘Lighthouse Fog’ is an album that will resonate deeply with anyone who has ever felt lost, alone, or uncertain. It is a testament to the human spirit’s capacity to persevere, to heal, and to overcome even the most daunting challenges. Let the fog clear, and let the light guide you home.”
Praising the support from his accomplices, DeepBlue Seas’ further stated on social media, “This album has pushed me far and beyond my own expectations. There were times when I wasn’t sure if I would be able to make this album. But with the help from some amazing people who are on this album, kept pushing me and inspiring me.”
