Join us for the first ever “Gross World” Music Festival featuring New York City’s most exciting performers, composers and instrumentalists. Performances will range from solo works to massive ensembles, all presenting absolutely epic music. This two day festival (August 22-23) is curated by Isaac Grossman in partnership with Life World.

Big Hill Little River

Big Hill Little River is a song cycle written by composer, pianist and pedal steel guitarist Isaac Grossman. The piece was inspired by characters from the David Lynch tellevision series “Twin Peaks”. BHLR  includes aspects of traditional song writing combined with dense ensemble improvisation and virtuosic solo shredding.

Mörholmen is a small island in the Barösund archipelago of Finland. My grandfather built a home there in the 60s and 70s and my parents carried that on by building a home there in 1996, the year my sister was born. As a band, we’ll be playing music that was written in an effort to cement memories that I’ve held onto throughout my years visiting Barösund. It’s an honor to be joined by Priya, Julius, Melissa and Jon in the creation and premiering of this project. - Rahul Carlberg

Ashcan Orchestra

Pat Spadine is a composer, tinkerer, scientific tourist, and pack rat nested in New York City. The voice of his practice is the Ashcan Orchestra, which is simultaneously a pen name, revolving performance ensemble, and a growing collection of instruments designed and/or reappropriated to perform new works of theatrical music which attempts to emulate and celebrate the basic mathematics and physics that bind the world around us.

Simon Hanes: Priest Choker
“Priest Choker” is a new project from the mind of Simon Hanes. Born in California and now based in Brooklyn, Hanes is a composer/performer/arranger and one of the major figures in the NY Downtown music scene.
