The UFC travels to Baku, Azerbaijan, for the first time ever as UFC on ABC 8: Hill vs. Rountree Jr. takes over Baku Crystal Hall on Saturday, June 21. Former light heavyweight champ Jamahal Hill faces hard-hitting Khalil Rountree Jr. in the headline bout of a historic card in UFC’s 31st country to host an event.
In the main event, Jamahal Hill looks to rebound from back-to-back stoppage losses as he meets Khalil Rountree Jr., who is also hunting redemption following a failed title bid against Alex Pereira. The co-main event features a lightweight clash between the always-dangerous Rafael Fiziev and surging finisher Ignacio Bahamondes. Rounding out the card are key bouts featuring Curtis Blaydes, rising lightweight Nazim Sadykhov, and Baku’s own Tofiq Musayev making his long-awaited UFC debut.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship goes to “The Land of Fire” for UFC Fight Night, with Jamahal “Sweet Dreams” Hill (12-3-0) vs. Khalil “The War Horse” Rountree Jr. (14-6-0) as the main card’s marquee light heavyweight matchup. There’s going to be plenty of fireworks with the fight card and there may be some special surprises, as well.
The main event will see former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jamahal Hill try to score his first victory since 2023 when he meets Khalil Rountree Jr., who is coming off a failed bid to claim the light heavyweight strap against Alex Pereira last October.
The card’s co-main event is an important lightweight contest between surging contender Ignacio Bahamondes and Rafael Fiziev. Bahamondes extended his finishing streak to three fights when he submitted Jalin Turner at UFC 313, while Fiziev is currently on a three-fight skid after coming up short in his short-notice rematch with Justin Gaethje in that same card’s co-main event.
The rest of the UFC Baku main card will also see top-ranked heavyweight Curtis Blaydes welcome Rizvan Kuniev to the UFC after Azerbaijan’s Tofiq Musayev makes his promotional debut against Myktybek Orolbai.
Azerbaijani lightweight Nazim Sadykhov will also try to score a win in his home country against Nikolas Motta after Muhammad Naimov and Bogdan Grad kick off the main card action.
The 34-year-old now faces Rountree Jr, who is also coming into this bout off the back of a defeat, losing to Pereira as he challenged for the title in October last year.
Needless to say, this is a massive fight within the 205 division. Light heavyweight has a new champion in Magomed Ankalaev and this opens plenty of opportunities. Former title fighters that lost to former champ Alex Pereira know that a dominant win can catapult them into the title picture.
