Our events celebrate diversity and honor ancient traditions, featuring world-renowned folk music and performance arts. These events seek to nurture and support the Bay Area's world folk communities and to facilitate networking, collaboration, friendship, and cross-cultural understanding. Musical Instrument Library
No need to bring an instrument to the jam, you can just borrow one from the musical instrument library, a box truck full of musical instruments with a stage that will be parked in the driveway.
- Do Not Park in the Neighborhood or you will be banned from our events.
- A ticket AND proof that you didn't park in the neighborhood (Uber/Lyft or free shuttle receipt) will be required for entry to the event.
- Shuttles: From 1:45pm to 4am, a free shuttle service will run every 10-15 minutes to and from a parking lot 6 minutes from the venue.
- The shuttle location, venue location and Uber/Lyft instructions will be included with your ticket.
- Volunteer: If you would like to attend but the price is prohibitive, please consider applying to be a volunteer using our Volunteer Application.
- Jam: Musicians who are interested in volunteering by leading open jams can apply for free tickets using this Guest Musician Application.

PERFORMERS AND PRESENTERS
Orchestra Gold (Mali, West Africa)
It’s 1976 and you just stepped inside a smokey club in Bamako, Mali. The air is thick with the gritty analog sounds of funky folkloric music, psychedelic guitar swirling with jazzy horns and hypnotic bass. As the crowd shakes their bell bottoms to the infectious grooves, the singer commands the stage with her soulful vocals and dance moves that give James Brown a run for his money. This is the vibe that Oakland’s own Orchestra Gold creates in their live shows as well as their recordings.
Sass N Harmony (American Folk)
The music of Sass N Harmony is imbued with mischief, minimalism & magic. With lyrics immersed in archetypes & folk-tales their vocals fly together at times angelic & feathery and other times cackling & edgy, full of tension & resolve, rhythm & playfulness. Featuring Heather Normandale (Vocals, Guitar, Banjo, Ukulele, Bass), Maisha Lani (Guitar, Bass) and Carolyn Herlehy (Vocals, Percussion).
Enrique Ugalde (Tuvan Throat Singing)
Enrique Ugalde is currently the most decorated non-Tuvan throat singer in the world, winning 3rd Laureate at the 5th International Throat Singing Symposium in Kyzyl Tuva in 2008, 2nd Laureate at the Tuvan National Kargyraa Competition in 2014 and awarded “Great Innovator of the Art of Kargyraa” at the Tuvan National Competition in 2016 and winning “Best Performance of Kargyraa” in the 2019 “Khöömei in the Center of Asia” Festival. He has had extensive training in various styles of Tuvan throat singing including; Khoomei, Kargyraa, Sygyt, Borbangnadyr, Chylandyk and has created his own unique style known as “Soriah style”. He’s studied and performed with Tuvan masters such as, Aldyn-Ool Sevek, Monguun-ool Ondar, Aldar Tamdyn, Igor Koshkendey, Zhenya Oyuun, Ouidupaa and Nachyn Chodu. Mah Ze Tar (Eastern Fusion)
Māh Ze Tār is a musical fusion project by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Maz Karandish. This project was propelled by the vision of fusing traditional Eastern music with modern electronic composition as a form of cultural preservation.
Miriam Peretz (Persian Dance)
Miriam Peretz is an internationally celebrated dance instructor and performer. Over the past twenty years her signature dance style has spread across continents through her international dance collective Nava, and through the intensive training’s she offers worldwide. Miriam’s format draws heavily on sacred dances from around the world, Central Asian dance, devotional Sufi whirling and ritual. Her movement quality and aesthetics also incorporate her years of martial arts training, contemporary dance, Flamenco, and many other world dance forms.
Arcush (Romani, Balkan, Mediterranean)
Arcush breaks stereotypes. Balkan is not (just) brass. Featuring the voice of Aya Safiya and her violin, the viola and violin of Marco Ghezzo, the cello of Leo Peringer, and percussion of Sean Tergis, Arcush tells histories blown in from the East to the Bay.
Amre Leon Dana (American Folk)
Nationally acclaimed folk musician, educator, and multi-instrumentalist Amre Leon Dana will create beautiful tapestries of sound with folk music from across North America, including bluegrass and the literal sounds of the Appalachian mountains.
Briana Di Mara (Global Strings)
Eclectic Bay Area musician Briana Di Mara is a member of Dirtwire, Stellamara, and La Zuli. She will be weaving tapestries of evocative sound with diverse instrumentation such as Turkish saz, santoor, and violin. Briana has a rich world folk music background which informs her original compositions and lush improvisations, blending influences from Ireland to the Balkans and the Middle East to create a unique and genre-defying sound.
Paul Chengpo Wang (Chinese Guqin & Daoist Meditation)
Paul is the founder of Dao Center, Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, Board Licensed Acupuncturist, Sifu of WingChun, Chinese Astrologist, Guqin musician, and “Memetic Healer & Cultural Acupuncturist specializing in Clinical Cosmology & Mythopoetic Engineering."
Quqin Performance: The Guqin is a plucked seven-string musical instrument of ancient China, with a history dating back over 3,000 years, traditionally associated with scholars, poets, and artists; sometimes referred to as "the instrument of the sages." Here's a video of Paul playing Guqin.

CelloJoe (Folktronica)
Joey Chang aka CelloJoe is an anomaly in the world of cellists: cello, singing, beatboxing, live looping, and DJing. He creates fat beats with a cello and his mouth and he does it live! His lyrics weave together sustainability, environmental justice, and social awareness. They entertain, inspire, and make you wonder. CelloJoe covers many styles of music from folk to dubstep to rock to classical to hip hop. CelloJoe is the world's first long distance musical bike touring cellist. He has ridden his bike over 10,000 miles in the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe and Australia.

Mizuho Sato (Flamenco Dance)
Award-winning Flamenco Artist Mizuho Sato was born in Iwate, Japan and started classical ballet at the age of three. She later developed a love for flamenco, the art form from Andalucía, Spain. Focusing on flamenco's intricate and complex rhythms, she will play live percussion, showcase her "taconeo" (footwork) talents, and move with the fluidity of upper body expression using "braceo" (arm movements) and "floreo" (hand movements).
Prasant Radhakrishnan (Carnatic Indian Saxaphone)
Prasant Radhakrishnan is a versatile saxophonist steeped in both South Indian Classical (Carnatic) and jazz disciplines. The unique vocal texture of his sound on saxophone, noted for its expressive complexity and rhythmic ingenuity, reflects Prasant’s continued study of tradition, constant innovation, and vast concert experience over the past 23 years. Prasant will be accompanied by mridangam player, Ajay Gopi.
Eliyahu Sills (Turkish, Persian, Arabic, Hindustani) with Faisal Zedan
Turkish, Persian, Arabic, and Hindustani music presented on traditional flutes of these ancient cultural traditions. Instruments including three types of Ney, (ancient flutes of Iran, Turkey and Arabic speaking regions), and the Bansuri bamboo flute from northern India. Eliyahu Sills is a highly acclaimed musician of many instruments, including bansuri (the bamboo flute of India), and Turkish, Persian and Arabic neys (the reed flutes of the Middle East), the upright bass, electric bass, and oud. He has studied music in Morocco, Turkey, Israel and at the New School of Jazz, as well as under the guidance of masters G.S. Sachdev and Hossein Omoumi. He is a leader and collaborator of many projects, most notably The Qadim Ensemble, which brings together diverse cultures of the Middle East, whose CD reached #7 on Billboard’s World Music charts. Eliyahu will be joined on percussion by Syrian virtuoso percussionist Faisal Zedan.

The Musical Instrument Library truck and (possibly) stage will allow attendees to jam on borrowed instruments.
Anwen (Sound Healing)
Take a pause and allow healing vibrations to wash over your body. Anwen will be playing symphonic gongs, 432hz crystal singing bowls, Tibetan singing bowls, ocean drum, rain stick, and Pyrenees koshi chimes to facilitate a state of relaxation, restoration, and release.
MG Brills (Yoga for Dancers)
MG began his odyssey into asana when he first moved to SF in 2003. An enduring love affair, his teaching style seeks to challenge and inspire students, with plenty of playfulness peppered in. Expect a "Yoga for Dancers" focused class to limber up the body for plenty of movement through the night!
