Hawk's Gym & Spa

Las Vegas

About Hawk’s Gym & Spa

Hawk’s Gym & Spa is no longer open. Multiple venue directories report that the Las Vegas business permanently closed in April 2023, and no verified evidence indicates that it has reopened under the Hawk’s name as of August 2026. Its former address was 953 East Sahara Avenue, Building 35, Suite 102, within the Historic Commercial Center District. Visitors should not travel there expecting to find Hawk’s operating.

Hawk’s was not a conventional concert venue, theater, or public fitness chain. It was an adults-only private social club and bathhouse serving primarily gay and bisexual men. The facility combined exercise equipment with lockers, private rooms, showers, a dry sauna, steam room, whirlpool, video areas, lounge space, and fetish-oriented adult areas. Contemporary listings described 23 private rooms, although published locker counts varied between 64 and 98, possibly reflecting renovations or different reporting periods. No reliable public record establishes its legal occupancy capacity, total square footage, room dimensions, or maximum event attendance.

History and Cultural Role

Business records date Hawk’s corporate beginnings to April 2, 2002, with local operations beginning on August 20, 2002. It traded for approximately two decades before closing in April 2023. The club was associated with Morrand, LLC, and historical records identify Randy Lange and Michael Morse among its principals. Materials relating to Hawk’s from the 2000s are also preserved in a special collection documenting LGBTQ life in Las Vegas.

Hawk’s was frequently promoted as Las Vegas’ only gay-owned and gay-operated sauna club. That distinction gave it significance beyond its facilities: it was a locally operated gathering place in a city where LGBTQ nightlife is heavily influenced by tourism, changing casino entertainment, and short-lived club concepts. Its 24-hour schedule suited hospitality workers, convention visitors, tourists, and locals whose free time did not follow conventional business hours.

The surrounding Commercial Center added another layer of character. Developed between 1962 and 1964 and formally opened in 1963, the open-air complex is associated with midcentury Las Vegas architecture, locally owned businesses, nightlife, international restaurants, and LGBTQ establishments. Hawk’s occupied an adapted storefront rather than a purpose-built spa, explaining the interior’s frequently described maze-like circulation and collection of differently sized rooms.

Events and Programming

Hawk’s regular programming centered on adult theme nights rather than seated performances. Historical promotions included members’ nights, reduced-price periods, leather or fetish gatherings, and “blackout” nights that deliberately lowered the lighting. Wednesday evenings, Friday nights, and Saturday nights were commonly identified as the busiest periods, with private rooms sometimes developing waiting lists. Admission for these ordinary nights was generally handled at reception rather than through advance ticket sales.

The publicly verifiable record for 2021 through 2023 is limited. In 2021, Hawk’s continued to appear in Las Vegas LGBTQ visitor guides as an operating bathhouse, but no complete public calendar of individual events survives. During 2022, the Southern Nevada Health District conducted monthly outreach at Hawk’s offering HIV and syphilis testing, information about PrEP and PEP, and condoms. This recurring health initiative demonstrates that the club also functioned as an access point for community-based sexual-health services.

The best-documented late-period event was HustlaBall Las Vegas in January 2023. Hawk’s hosted cruising parties, a specialized fetish event, and the main late-night party. Advertised DJs included Sassy Squatch, Karsten Sollors, and Alfonso Tan. The broader weekend used several Las Vegas locations, but Hawk’s was central to its adult programming. Weekend passes exceeded $200 with fees, while individual event prices varied considerably; those festival prices were not representative of ordinary Hawk’s admission. ticketfairy.com

Hawk’s closed approximately three months later. There were therefore no Hawk’s events in 2024, 2025, or 2026, and nothing has been announced under its name for 2027 or beyond. Building 35 has since appeared as an address for the ICME Foundation and a separately branded Las Vegas Event Center, including LGBTQ pageant activity in 2025 and 2026. Those events belong to later occupants or organizations and are not a continuation of Hawk’s programming.

Former Admission and Booking

Hawk’s operated through memberships and on-site rentals rather than a theater-style box office. Historical guides listed a one-time membership near $7 and a three-month membership near $15. Depending on the period, a locker and towel brought the visit to approximately $14–$16, while a private room or video cubicle was generally around $24–$27. Special parties could cost more, and large festival events used separate advance admission. These are historical figures only; no Hawk’s passes remain valid or available.

Layout, Design, and Technical Features

There was no auditorium, assigned seating, balcony, fixed VIP section, or conventional stage. Visitors entered through a reception area before using lockers or private rooms and moving through the gym, showers, spa facilities, lounges, video areas, and adult play spaces. Reviews repeatedly described the interior as unexpectedly large and maze-like. The principal choices were therefore between a locker and a private room, not between seating sections or sightlines.

The gym included weight-training and cardio equipment, although late reviews described some machines as dated or dusty. The wellness facilities were the stronger draw: published amenity lists identified showers, dry and steam saunas, a whirlpool, relaxation areas, free additional towels, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, a soda or snack counter, video entertainment, and free condoms. Hawk’s was not known to contain a full swimming pool.

No verified architectural drawings, renovation chronology, acoustic report, production rider, lighting inventory, or installed sound-system specification is publicly available. DJ-led events clearly used amplified music, video displays, and controllable low lighting, but there is no evidence of a permanent concert-grade line array, theatrical lighting grid, loading dock, backstage suite, or professional stage. Event organizers likely supplemented the club’s everyday audiovisual equipment when producing larger parties.

Getting to the Former Location

The former club stood in Building 35 at 953 East Sahara Avenue, about a mile east of Las Vegas Boulevard. Commercial Center is reached from Sahara Avenue, with internal drives connecting its large surface lots and individual buildings. The district currently advertises approximately 1,500 free parking spaces, curbside spaces, and additional overflow parking. Parking was shared with surrounding businesses rather than reserved exclusively for Hawk’s.

The Sahara Express bus travels east and west along Sahara Avenue, while Route 109 serves Maryland Parkway a short walk east of Commercial Center. The Sahara Las Vegas Monorail station is roughly 0.8 miles west, but the walk can be uncomfortable during extreme summer heat. Rideshare and taxi passengers can be dropped within the center’s internal parking area near Building 35 rather than along fast-moving Sahara Avenue.

Visitor Experiences

Late-period reviews were mixed. A 2021 visitor described the club as quiet and in declining condition. Other guests in 2022 praised the welcoming reception staff, diverse crowd, dark atmosphere, numerous rooms, and sense of discovery created by the large interior. A January 2023 review found the workout equipment outdated and dusty but still enjoyed the sauna and steam room. These contrasting reports suggest that the social atmosphere remained appealing to some visitors even as maintenance and attendance became inconsistent.

Privacy and respectful conduct were fundamental to the club’s operation. It required adult admission and membership, and a major 2023 event explicitly operated as 21 and older. Photography in changing, sauna, and adult areas would have conflicted with the privacy expected in this type of establishment, although a complete archived policy document could not be verified. Exact bag rules, re-entry procedures, accessibility accommodations, and final operating policies should not be reconstructed from incomplete third-party listings.

Accessibility

No dependable venue-specific documentation survives describing accessible private rooms, shower transfer equipment, sauna access, companion assistance, or other ADA accommodations inside Hawk’s. Commercial Center has ground-level storefronts and a large surface parking system, but that does not establish that every former interior feature was accessible. Because Hawk’s is closed and Building 35 has other occupants, visitors with accessibility requirements should treat all historical descriptions as obsolete.

Nearby Amenities

Commercial Center remains an active dining and entertainment district even though Hawk’s has closed. Current food choices include Lotus of Siam, Komol Thai, Vickie’s Diner, La Vecindad, Balkan Bar & Grill, Brasa Roja, Pasabocas Colombian Bakery, and several Korean restaurants. Lotus of Siam reopened its original Commercial Center location in May 2026. Individual hours vary, with the district generally identifying 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. as its most dependable shopping and dining period.

There is no hotel within the former Hawk’s building. The closest major resort area is west along Sahara Avenue around Las Vegas Boulevard and Paradise Road. Although the distance appears short on a map, rideshare is generally more practical than walking with luggage, late at night, or during summer temperatures. Commercial Center’s free parking and varied restaurants make it useful as an off-Strip destination, but not as a reason to seek the closed club.

What Made Hawk’s Special

Hawk’s combined functions that Las Vegas visitors would otherwise have found in separate places: a neighborhood gym, bathhouse, private social club, all-night meeting place, adult party venue, and community-health outreach location. It was locally owned, embedded in a historically eclectic commercial district, and designed around movement and social discovery rather than a polished resort-spa experience.

Its cultural importance is easier to establish than its economic impact. No venue-specific employment, visitor-spending, or tax study has been published. Nevertheless, its roughly 20-year lifespan, inclusion in LGBTQ historical archives, involvement in sexual-health outreach, and role in nationally promoted fetish weekends document a meaningful place within Las Vegas’ gay social history.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Hawk’s Gym & Spa still open?

No. Hawk’s Gym & Spa was reported permanently closed in April 2023. Searches current through August 2026 found no evidence that it reopened elsewhere or resumed operating under the same name. Older directories may still display its address, telephone number, or 24-hour schedule because their records were never updated, but these should not be treated as confirmation that the club is trading.

Why do some listings say Hawk’s is open 24 hours?

Hawk’s genuinely operated 24 hours a day before it closed, so that schedule remains embedded in older business databases and travel guides. Automated listings may continue reproducing historical hours after a business ceases trading. More recent venue guides and review aggregators specifically identify the club as permanently closed in April 2023, which supersedes the surviving 24-hour information.

Are there any Hawk’s events scheduled for 2026 or later?

No events have been announced under the Hawk’s Gym & Spa name for 2026, 2027, or later. Building 35 has hosted activities associated with other organizations and a separately named event venue, but those are not Hawk’s events. The club’s final well-documented large party was part of HustlaBall Las Vegas in January 2023, shortly before the closure. ticketfairy.com

Was Hawk’s a regular public gym?

No. Although it contained workout equipment, Hawk’s was primarily a private men’s social club and bathhouse. Admission required a membership or short-term membership payment, followed by a locker or private-room rental. Its steam room, sauna, showers, video areas, adult rooms, and themed nights were central to the experience. It should not be confused with an ordinary health club selling conventional fitness memberships.

What was the exact former address?

Hawk’s occupied 953 East Sahara Avenue, Building 35, Suite 102, Las Vegas, Nevada 89104, inside the Historic Commercial Center District. Some archived records shorten the location to Building 35 or use slightly different suite formatting. Building 35 now has associations with other organizations, so finding that structure does not mean Hawk’s remains there or that the former club space is open to visitors.

What was the capacity of Hawk’s Gym & Spa?

No verified fire-code occupancy or overall guest capacity has been published. Historical guides reported 23 private rooms and either 64 or 98 lockers, but locker totals are not equivalent to legal capacity. There were no fixed theater seats. Any page assigning Hawk’s a precise concert, standing, or seated capacity without an official occupancy document is likely estimating rather than reporting a confirmed figure.

Did Hawk’s have assigned seating or VIP areas?

No. Hawk’s did not have assigned seats, theater rows, a balcony, or a permanent VIP section. Visitors rented a locker or private room and moved among the gym, lounge, sauna, steam room, showers, video areas, and other shared spaces. Festival organizers occasionally sold VIP passes for multi-venue weekends, but those passes covered added events and privileges rather than a fixed VIP seating section inside Hawk’s.

How much did admission cost?

Historical listings placed a one-time membership near $7 and a three-month membership near $15. Locker-and-towel options were commonly around $14–$16, while private rooms or video cubicles were approximately $24–$27. Prices could change during busy nights or special events. These figures are useful only for understanding the former operation; Hawk’s no longer sells memberships, admission, lockers, or rooms.

Was Hawk’s restricted to adults?

Yes. Hawk’s was an adult private club, and identification was expected at check-in. The documented HustlaBall event held there in January 2023 was restricted to guests 21 and older. A complete surviving policy establishing whether ordinary admission was always 18-plus or 21-plus could not be verified, so visitors should not rely on conflicting historical listings for a more precise universal age rule. ticketfairy.com

Did Hawk’s have a swimming pool or hot tub?

Published amenity guides reported a whirlpool or Jacuzzi, along with dry and steam saunas and showers. Hawk’s was not generally described as having a full-size swimming pool. Some visitor descriptions and older directories disagree about individual facilities, so the safest historical summary is that it provided spa-style heat and water amenities but was not a pool-centered bathhouse.

What condition was the gym equipment in?

Experiences varied by year. An older visitor praised the gym equipment as clean and functional, while a January 2023 guest described it as outdated, dusty, and rarely used. The fitness area appears to have been a genuine amenity rather than decorative branding, but the sauna, steam room, social environment, and private areas became the stronger attraction during the club’s later years.

Was food or drink available inside?

Historical guides listed a soda bar, snacks, and in some periods a broader food menu. Free Wi-Fi and additional towels were also reported. The available selection was closer to a basic club counter than a full restaurant or casino bar. Because no final menu survives and the venue is closed, old reports of meals, prices, beverage choices, or operating hours should be regarded as historical rather than current information.

Was Hawk’s wheelchair accessible?

No sufficiently detailed, reliable record confirms how much of Hawk’s was wheelchair accessible. A third-party listing labeled the property accessible, but it did not document door widths, showers, private rooms, sauna access, transfer equipment, or restroom layouts. The surrounding center contains ground-level storefronts and surface parking, yet those facts alone cannot establish accessibility throughout the former club’s maze-like interior.

Could visitors take photographs inside?

Privacy was essential in a changing, sauna, and adult social environment, so photography or video in sensitive areas would not have been appropriate. However, a complete archived Hawk’s rulebook has not been located, making it unwise to claim the precise wording or penalties of its final camera policy. As a general historical takeaway, guests were expected to protect other patrons’ anonymity and personal boundaries.

Where did visitors park?

Visitors used Commercial Center’s shared surface parking lots near Building 35. The district currently advertises approximately 1,500 free spaces, along with curbside and overflow parking. Hawk’s did not have a private parking garage or valet operation. Because the lots serve numerous businesses, drivers were expected to follow posted restrictions and avoid spaces specifically designated for another tenant.

What public transportation serves the former location?

The Sahara Express runs along Sahara Avenue, and Route 109 serves nearby Maryland Parkway. The Sahara Monorail station is approximately 0.8 miles west near Las Vegas Boulevard. Bus or rideshare travel is generally more comfortable than walking from the Strip, especially in summer heat. Transit service remains useful for visiting Commercial Center, but it does not provide access to Hawk’s because the club has closed.

What replaced Hawk’s Gym & Spa?

No verified source identifies a direct replacement operating from Suite 102 with the same facilities. Building 35 now appears in records connected with the ICME Foundation and events promoted under the Las Vegas Event Center name. Because many listings provide only the building number rather than an exact suite, it cannot be assumed that every current Building 35 activity occupies the complete former Hawk’s interior.

Is there anything to visit at Commercial Center today?

Yes, but not Hawk’s. Commercial Center remains a functioning off-Strip district with restaurants, lounges, live entertainment, locally owned stores, public murals, and midcentury commercial architecture. Current dining includes Lotus of Siam, Komol Thai, Vickie’s Diner, La Vecindad, Brasa Roja, and Pasabocas Colombian Bakery. Visitors should plan around those active businesses rather than the closed bathhouse.
