Alison Wonderland’s Album ‘Loner’ to Become a Graphic Novel

Alison Wonderland will transform her latest album into a graphic novel. The announcement comes following the release of her most recent album ‘Loner’ on May 6, 2022. As per the press release, the graphic novel will be created in collaboration with Z2 Comics.

‘Loner’ is the Australian DJ, producer and singer-songwriter’s third studio album. It depicts themes of ‘isolation, loss, panic, grief and prevailing’, which will be reflected in the graphic novel. The novel is described as ‘a multi-dimensional, metaphysical experience in prismatic color.’

Z2 Comics co-founder Sridhar Reddy has co-authored the book along with Alison. The cover art is crafted by Minomiyabi and Ariela Kristantina, whereas Minomiyabi, Alex Heywood, Kelsey Ramsay, BRÄO and Taylan Kurtulus worked on the novel’s interior art.

Speaking about the book, Sridhar expressed, “Working with Alison on this project was a gift to the creative team because, like her music, she was truthful and open to the story she wanted to tell. It’s very much her emotional journey, and we count ourselves fortunate to be on this ride with her.”

The conception of ‘Loner’ “felt like a rebirth” to the artist, who produced the record during the global pandemic in 2020. Alison instilled her vulnerabilities, symbolism and emotions into the album through the lyrics and vocals. The album resembles a cohesive journey of Alison’s emotions rather than it being a singles collection.

“I owe it to whoever else is out there who was like me, wishing that they had an album like this to empower them to feel less alone and know that it’s all going to be okay one day,” she said. “This time, something shifted in me, and I decided that I didn’t want to be the victim anymore. Instead, whatever I wrote from here would empower me, and help me find strength in this loneliness.”
