Step beyond the ordinary and enter a world of dragons, magic, mystery, and adventure at Richmond's D20 Magic Ball (21+), a Fantasy-themed Costume Gala and immersive Quest taking over Black Iris in downtown Richmond. Set within the enchanting surroundings of the month-long Dragons & Mead Fantasy Art Show, guests will spend the evening surrounded by incredible fantasy-inspired artwork created by talented Richmond artists while enjoying themed cocktails, live entertainment, dancing, and an atmosphere designed to transport you to another realm.

But the D20 Magic Ball is more than a Costume Gala. For those brave enough to answer the call, the evening transforms into an interactive fantasy quest where choices matter and adventure awaits around every corner. Encounter live role-players throughout the venue, uncover hidden secrets, complete challenges, and become part of a living story crafted by the imaginative minds behind D&D Destination and After Dark RVA. Whether you arrive as a wandering adventurer, noble ruler, cunning rogue, powerful mage, or mythical creature, your journey is yours to shape.

Throughout the night, guests can compete for glory in the Fantasy Costume Contest (including a special FAIRY CATEGORY for our winged friends), mingle with fellow fantasy enthusiasts, and immerse themselves in a world where imagination comes to life. Whether you're a longtime tabletop gamer, a fantasy lover, or simply looking for a unique night out in Richmond, the D20 Magic Ball promises an unforgettable evening of magic, fellowship, and adventure.

The D20 Magic Ball is part of the art pop-up DRAGON FIRE TAVERN (21+), hosted at Black Iris in downtown Richmond throughout the month of July — hosting multiple fantasy-themed events:

• July 3: DRAGONS & MEAD: Art Show Opening (Free Entry) - part of FIRST FRIDAYS

• July 11: TABLETOP TAVERN (11:00am-4:00pm) – Choose your one-shot TTRPG adventure with experienced game masters

• July 11: D20 MAGIC BALL (8:00pm-1:00am) – Fantasy costume gala & immersive quest (21+)​

• July 15: FANTASY DRINK & DRAW – hosted by Brit Austin (21+)​

• July 18: DUNGEONS & DRAG-ONS – Fantasy-themed Drag Show (21+)​
