Events and Programming

The Fox is a small café-bar and live-events venue at 11 Victoria Road in St Philip’s, close to Bristol Temple Meads. Its event programme is strongly associated with underground dance music rather than conventional seated concerts: drum and bass, jungle, UK garage, dubstep, grime, bassline, breakbeat, hard house, techno and multi-genre rave nights appear regularly in public listings. Events are commonly afternoon-to-evening day parties, although some run later into the night.

Recent documented programming shows how the venue is used. In 2023, it hosted a 12-hour New Year’s Eve charity party built around acid techno, hard house and NRG. The 2024 programme included UTS Audio’s multi-genre “Rumble from the Reef”, a Star Wars-themed jungle and drum-and-bass party, the Depth Perception deep-house and electro gathering, and UTS & Friends, which ranged from breakbeat to tekno. The events were generally 18-plus and designed around dancing, sound-system culture and local promoter communities. ticketfairy.com

In 2025, the venue continued to attract grassroots dance events. Toxictek & Friends advertised a Bristol day party with multiple DJs, lighting, decoration and a dedicated sound system, while other listings presented jungle-focused nights and themed events under the Hidden Jungle name. This suggests that The Fox’s usual booking profile is flexible but consistently bass-led, local, informal and promoter-driven rather than based on touring bands with fixed stage productions.

The publicly announced 2026 programme follows the same pattern. Documented events include the Blueprint of Breakbeats jungle party, 303 x Bake Off, the Overgrowth open-air drum-and-bass day party, an Eyrese bass-music date, Intrigue’s summer drum-and-bass barbecue and a September hardcore, happy-hardcore, hard-house and drum-and-bass birthday party. The Intrigue event was billed as the second edition of an annual summer D&B barbecue, with RoyGreen & Protone, Ben Soundscape, Collette Warren and other guests. No reliable 2027 programme was publicly confirmed in the material reviewed.

Ticket prices are usually low by Bristol nightlife standards. Verified examples run from free-entry or donation-based events to roughly £3–£10 advance tickets, with some larger or longer parties reaching around £20. Door prices can be higher, and a few events are strictly advance-sale only. Because capacity is small, a popular event may sell out even when the ticket price is modest.

Tickets and Booking

Tickets are normally sold through the individual promoter’s event listing rather than through a permanent Fox box office. The event announcement is the authoritative source for price, age limit, door time, last entry, advance-sale rules and whether tickets are available on the door. Some events advertise early tickets from £3 or £5, while others use a single price or free registration followed by a door contribution.

For popular nights, book as soon as the event is announced and do not assume that arriving early guarantees entry if the event is advance-sale only. Check the stated last-entry time: several Fox events have required guests to arrive well before the advertised finish. Bring the same valid photo identification used when purchasing or entering an 18-plus event, and allow extra time if the party has a queue or security check.

Prices can change between early release, standard advance sale and the door. The venue does not publish a general ticket tariff, membership scheme or permanent presale calendar. Private hire and event-specific arrangements also appear to be handled individually rather than through a fixed public package.

About The Fox

The Fox is best understood as a neighbourhood pub and café-bar that also operates as a compact live-events space. Public venue listings describe it as a café bar offering late-night dancing, with a listed capacity of 120. Individual event descriptions have used smaller figures, including an intimate 100-person capacity, while another nightlife listing gives 150. The variation is likely to reflect different layouts, outdoor use, licensing conditions or event-specific limits, so visitors should rely on the capacity stated for their particular event.

The building has a long pub history. A Bristol and Suburban Trades Directory records a Fox Inn on Victoria Road in St Philip’s Marsh, showing that the name and location have deep roots in the district. In 2001, a local real-ale publication reported that the Fox Tavern was undergoing extended repairs, retaining its original three bars. The same report noted that the building had survived redevelopment around it and had become an important remaining historic pub in the area.

The venue later moved through several identities. Local coverage describes the former community pub being converted into a diner in 2013 and then into a café-bar in 2019. The result is a hybrid space: part working café, part traditional pub, part small club and part event-hire venue.

Seating and Layout

The Fox does not operate like a conventional theatre with numbered rows, balconies or a fixed seated auditorium. Event listings describe day parties, club nights, garden sessions and dance-floor formats, so the normal expectation is standing and moving around rather than reserved seating. Daytime café service uses tables and chairs, but these may be cleared, rearranged or reduced for an event.

The venue’s distinctive feature is the relationship between the interior and its sheltered outdoor area, sometimes promoted as the Hidden Jungle. Event descriptions refer to an undercover garden or outdoor dance floor, and recent parties have used that space for open-air or semi-open-air programming. The balance between indoor and outdoor areas can change according to weather, licensing and the promoter’s production plan. ticketfairy.com

There is no publicly available seating plan or verified room-dimension schedule. Visitors seeking a quieter position should arrive early and ask staff where the bar, seating and less crowded areas are located. For sound, the centre of the dance floor is usually the most immersive position, while the edges are more practical for conversation or taking a break.

Getting There and Parking

The address is 11 Victoria Road, St Philip’s, Bristol, BS2 0UT. Bristol Temple Meads is the closest major transport hub. Accommodation and local listings place The Fox within roughly a 10-minute walk of the station, although the exact walking time varies with the station exit and temporary works around the Temple Quarter.

From Temple Meads, leave towards Temple Gate and follow the roads towards Victoria Road and St Philip’s. Allow extra time at night because the area combines railway infrastructure, industrial buildings, traffic routes and redevelopment sites. The postcode is close to several bus stops, including stops around Kingsland Road, Bellevue Road and Temple Gate. Bus routes and stop names can change during works, so check the live departure information before travelling.

Parking immediately outside The Fox is limited. The nearest practical options are the Temple Gate and Temple Meads car parks. Temple Gate is a multi-storey facility with 263 spaces and electric-vehicle charging bays. Its published Bristol City Council tariff includes £4.50 for the evening period, £6 for overnight parking and higher daytime charges for longer stays. The Temple Meads car park is also close and has several hundred spaces, but its tariff is separate and can be considerably higher for short visits. Check the signs on arrival because charges and restrictions change.

For taxis or private-hire vehicles, use Victoria Road as the destination and avoid blocking the entrance or nearby junctions. The closest reliable late-night connection is usually Temple Meads, but confirm the final train or bus before entering an event that finishes late.

Inside the Venue

The daytime identity is a café-bar serving breakfast and casual food, with reviews frequently mentioning rolls, bacon, roast-style food, coffee and a relaxed atmosphere. During events, the room becomes more compact and energetic, with the bar remaining the main point for drinks. A food offer may be available at selected events, including barbecue service at some summer parties, but it should not be assumed for every booking.

The atmosphere changes considerably between daytime and event hours. Visitors describe a small, friendly venue rather than a large commercial nightclub. Event production may include added lighting, decoration and promoter-supplied sound equipment. There is no verified public information about a cloakroom, merchandise counter, fixed Wi-Fi provision or a permanent event merchandise policy, so bring only what you need and follow the instructions for the individual night.

Food-safety records identify the premises as a restaurant, café or canteen and recorded “very good” standards for food handling, cleanliness and management at an inspection on 21 April 2026.

Production, Sound and Lighting

The Fox’s production character comes largely from visiting promoters and sound crews. A 2022 event advertised a Funktion One system, while later events named or promoted systems supplied by UTS Audio, Toxicating, Lurker Audio, Jurassic Audio and other crews. These references demonstrate that the venue can host serious bass-music systems, but they do not prove that any one brand or rig remains permanently installed.

Similarly, event listings refer to lighting, decoration, strobes or themed visual treatment, but no public technical rider confirms fixed lighting fixtures, stage dimensions, rigging points, power capacity, sound-pressure limits or production-room specifications. Promoters and performers should request a current technical specification before advancing a show. Audience members should expect loud music and consider bringing earplugs for bass-heavy events.

Nearby Amenities

The Fox sits in a mixed industrial, railway and redevelopment district rather than a dense restaurant quarter. Temple Meads provides cafés, convenience food and transport connections, while Old Market, Cabot Circus and the wider city centre offer a broader choice of restaurants and bars within walking distance or a short taxi ride. St Philip’s itself has fewer late-night options, so eating before arrival is sensible for events where food is not advertised.

Accommodation is available around Temple Meads and the city centre, and public listings also associate rooms with the Fox building. If staying nearby, confirm the room arrangement and noise expectations before booking because event nights can run until late.

What Makes This Venue Special

The Fox’s appeal is its unusual scale and setting. It is close to one of Bristol’s main railway stations but retains the feel of a small local pub. Its history includes the survival of a traditional three-bar layout, refurbishment after structural problems and a memorable 2001 report that the venue had been damaged when a Casualty film crew drove a coach through the bars. That combination of working-pub history and modern grassroots nightlife gives The Fox a character that purpose-built clubs do not share.

For artists and promoters, the attraction is intimacy. A 100- to 150-person room allows DJs and local crews to perform close to the crowd, while the outdoor area gives events a second atmosphere without becoming a large festival site. The Fox also provides an affordable platform for emerging Bristol DJs, collectives and sound-system operators. The cultural impact is best described as grassroots rather than large-scale: no published economic study quantifies its contribution, but its role in supporting local promoters, hospitality spending and small-capacity music events is clear from the programme.

Visitor Tips and Information

Most advertised club and rave events at The Fox are 18-plus, and several require valid photo identification at the door. Check the individual event notice because age restrictions, last entry and door times vary. Casual clothing is normal; practical shoes, light layers and ear protection are more useful than formal dress. The venue can become warm during a busy dance event.

Public listings identify a wheelchair-accessible entrance and wheelchair-accessible seating, but detailed information about step-free routes, accessible toilets, door widths, hearing assistance and outdoor-floor access is not consistently published. Because furniture and event layouts can change, visitors with access requirements should confirm the arrangements for the specific event before buying a ticket.

Do not rely on nearby parking being available, and do not leave travel planning until the end of a late event. Temple Meads is the most useful transport anchor, but check the final train or bus before entering. Arriving 30–45 minutes before the advertised start is a good general approach, with earlier arrival advisable for limited-capacity parties, advance-ticket checks or events with a stated last-entry time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is The Fox in Bristol?

The Fox is at 11 Victoria Road, St Philip’s, Bristol, BS2 0UT. It is close to Bristol Temple Meads and sits in a mixed industrial and redevelopment area east of the city centre. Event listings may call it The Fox Café/Bar, The Fox Bar and Café, The Fox or Hidden Jungle, so check that the address matches Victoria Road before travelling.

Is The Fox a pub, café or music venue?

It is all three, depending on the time and booking. The daytime operation is a café-bar and former neighbourhood pub, while selected evenings and weekends become ticketed live events or dance parties. The music programme is especially associated with grassroots electronic music, sound-system culture and small promoter-led events rather than conventional theatre or seated concerts.

What music is usually played at The Fox?

Public event listings show drum and bass, jungle, UK garage, dubstep, grime, bassline, breakbeat, techno, hard house, acid and other bass-heavy or multi-genre styles. Some bookings are themed around one scene, while others combine several local crews. The consistent thread is energetic electronic music in an intimate, dance-focused setting.

What is The Fox’s capacity?

A venue listing gives a capacity of 120. Individual event adverts have described the room as an intimate 100-cap venue, while another listing records 150. These figures should not be treated as interchangeable: outdoor use, furniture, event layout and licensing conditions may alter the limit. Always use the capacity or ticket availability stated for the particular event.

Does The Fox have seated concerts?

The Fox is not presented as a fixed-seat theatre. Daytime café service uses tables and chairs, but ticketed music events are generally standing and dance-floor based. Seating may be available at the edges or during quieter periods, yet it can be removed or rearranged for a party. Ask staff about seating on arrival if you need to rest.

How much do tickets for The Fox usually cost?

Prices vary by promoter and event. Verified examples range from free or donation-based entry through roughly £3–£10 advance tickets, with some longer or special events costing around £20. Door prices may be higher, and some parties are advance-sale only. Small capacity means low-priced events can sell out quickly, so do not equate a cheap ticket with guaranteed door availability.

Can I buy tickets at the door?

Sometimes, but not always. Some event notices explicitly advertise door sales, while others state “strictly presale only” or publish a higher on-the-door price. The individual promoter’s listing controls the policy for that night. If no door-sale information is given, buying in advance is the safer option, particularly for themed parties, seasonal events and visiting artists.

Are The Fox’s events over-18s only?

Most of the dance and rave events publicly advertised at The Fox are 18-plus. The event notice normally states the age restriction, and several listings specify that identification is required. Do not assume that daytime café access and evening event access have the same rules. Check the booking information for the exact event before travelling.

What identification should I bring?

Bring valid photo identification for an 18-plus event. A physical passport or driving licence is the safest choice, although the promoter may state which forms are accepted. Digital photographs of identification may not be accepted at the door. If you look younger than 18, expect to be asked even when you have already purchased a ticket.

Is there an outdoor area at The Fox?

Event descriptions refer to a sheltered or undercover outdoor area promoted as the Hidden Jungle. It has been used for garden dance floors, open-air sessions and summer parties. Access and availability can depend on the event, weather, licensing and the promoter’s layout. Treat it as an event feature rather than a guaranteed open space on every visit. ticketfairy.com

Does The Fox have a permanent sound system?

The venue can host powerful sound-system events, but publicly available listings do not confirm one permanent PA model or installation. Different promoters have advertised systems including Funktion One and named local sound crews. That means sound, bass response and speaker placement may vary by night. Performers and promoters should request current technical information before planning production.

Is The Fox wheelchair accessible?

Public venue listings identify a wheelchair-accessible entrance and accessible seating. However, detailed information about toilet provision, step-free access to every area, outdoor-floor access and hearing assistance is not consistently available. Because event furniture and crowd layouts change, visitors with access requirements should confirm the arrangements for their specific booking rather than relying only on a general venue listing.

How far is The Fox from Temple Meads?

The Fox is generally described as within about a 10-minute walk of Bristol Temple Meads, although the route depends on the station exit and current construction works. Head towards Temple Gate and then Victoria Road. Allow longer at night or when carrying luggage, since the route passes through busy roads and a changing Temple Quarter environment.

Is there parking at The Fox?

Immediate street parking is limited and should not be relied upon. Nearby alternatives include Temple Gate car park and the Temple Meads car park. Temple Gate publishes evening and overnight tariffs, while the station car park uses a separate pricing structure. Charges, spaces and restrictions can change, so check the signs when you arrive rather than assuming that an event ticket includes parking.

Does The Fox serve food during events?

Food is part of the café-bar identity, and some event listings specifically advertise barbecue food or other event-day service. It is not guaranteed for every party. If eating at the venue matters, check the event description or plan to eat near Temple Meads, Old Market or Cabot Circus before arrival. Daytime menus and event-night offers may be different.

When should I arrive for a Fox event?

Arrive 30–45 minutes before the advertised start for a normal ticketed event. Go earlier if the event is limited-capacity, has a prominent guest DJ, uses physical ticket checks or publishes an early last-entry time. Late arrival can be especially risky for afternoon-to-evening day parties because the venue may reach its limit before the headline set.

What is the venue’s history?

The site has a long association with the Fox Inn and Fox Tavern name in St Philip’s Marsh. A 2001 local pub report described repairs that retained three original bars and noted the building’s survival amid redevelopment. Later, it became a diner in 2013 and a café-bar in 2019. Its current music identity builds on that older pub history rather than replacing it entirely.

Has The Fox announced events beyond 2026?

As of 15 September 2026, publicly indexed information confirms a continuing 2026 pattern of small-capacity bass-music parties, including events after the summer season. I found no reliably confirmed 2027 programme. The safest expectation is that future bookings will continue to be announced by individual promoters and may appear with different names such as The Fox Café/Bar or Hidden Jungle.
