About Station 4

Station 4, commonly shortened to S4, is an indoor LGBTQ+ nightclub and entertainment complex at 3911 Cedar Springs Road in Dallas’s Oak Lawn neighborhood. It remains open under the Station 4 name as of August 23, 2026. The venue operates Wednesday through Sunday, generally from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m., with its alcohol-free Station 4 Afters period beginning at 2 a.m.

Rather than functioning as one enormous room, S4 divides its activity among five distinctive zones on two principal public levels. The Main Floor is a two-story dance environment with a wraparound balcony. The Rose Room presents professional drag and cabaret. Granite Bar specializes in hard electronic music, while Horror Bar offers a quieter, theatrical cocktail setting. The adjacent Cheat Code gaming lounge has arcade cabinets, console games, tournaments, and a separate 21-and-older policy. Two outdoor patios provide smoking areas and relief from the crowded dance floors.

Published descriptions place the complex between approximately 24,000 and 29,000 square feet. A current, official fire-code capacity, individual room dimensions, and detailed floor measurements are not publicly posted, so visitors and private-event planners should not rely on unofficial capacity estimates. The most useful description is that S4 is a large, multi-room club capable of handling major Pride, Halloween, circuit-party, fundraising, and community-event crowds.

History and Cultural Significance

Station 4’s story is longer than its present name. Its lineage runs through Frank Caven’s Dallas nightlife businesses, the Old Plantation, and Village Station. The Old Plantation moved from downtown after land was acquired for development of the Dallas Museum of Art. Village Station subsequently occupied several spaces around Cedar Springs before the operation settled into the building that became S4. The venue identifies its institutional roots with 1980, while the Station 4 name itself debuted after a major 2004 reconstruction.

A predecessor Village Station location was the site of the October 25, 1979 police raid in which patrons were arrested while dancing. Several defendants fought the charges instead of quietly pleading guilty. The resulting legal and political mobilization helped change relations between Dallas law enforcement and the LGBTQ+ community, and the incident is often described locally as Dallas’s Stonewall. It is important to understand this as part of S4’s venue lineage, not as an event inside the present-day remodeled room.

The Rose Room was established in 1986 and has developed performers who later gained national recognition, including Alyssa Edwards, Kennedy Davenport, Asia O’Hara, Sahara Davenport, Plastique Tiara, Ra’Jah O’Hara, and A’keria C. Davenport. The room’s continuing resident cast and Rising Star program make it both a polished showplace and a training ground for emerging drag artists.

Events and Programming

Station 4’s core programming combines DJ-led dancing, circuit and electronic parties, drag shows, pageants, watch parties, themed nightlife, gaming events, karaoke, holiday celebrations, and LGBTQ+ fundraisers. The Rose Room normally presents Rising Star on Thursday and its signature ensemble show Friday through Sunday, generally beginning at 11 p.m. Granite Bar operates primarily Friday and Saturday with rotating techno, house, trance, drum-and-bass, hardstyle, hyperpop, and gabber programming. Horror Bar schedules goth nights, themed Friday-the-13th events, and Sunday karaoke.

Programming from 2021 through 2026 demonstrates the venue’s range. Recent years have included large audiovisual dance productions, Pride in Dallas parties, Trans Pride programming, Purple Party events, recurring Gaybingo fundraisers, fashion and art showcases, drag pageants, voting events, and MetroBall concerts. Performers and headliners have included Debbie Gibson, Crystal Waters, David Hernandez, Kylie Sonique Love, Kerri Colby, Nina Flowers, Alyssa Edwards, Kennedy Davenport, and numerous nationally touring DJs.

The 2026 calendar continues that mix with weekly Rose Room shows, Pride programming, hard-rave residencies, gaming tournaments, themed afternoon club events, holiday-weekend parties, and milestone celebrations for longtime performers. No confirmed public calendar for 2027 or later was found during research, so the safest long-term expectation is recurring drag, DJs, Pride, Halloween, and community-benefit programming rather than any specific future artist.

Tickets and Booking

Many ordinary club nights use a cover charge rather than a conventional reserved ticket. The Rose Room generally offers a short free-entry period from 10 to 10:30 p.m., without re-entry privileges, followed by a typical cover of about $8. Prices increase for headliners, holiday weekends, Pride, Halloween, concerts, and benefit events; recent examples indicate that special-event admission can range from the low teens to $50 or more.

Advance admission is most valuable for major celebrations because it can shorten the entry process or protect against a sellout. For routine Rose Room shows, no reservation is required and seating is first come, first served. Groups seeking reserved booths or bottle service generally need at least six people and should make arrangements well before a busy weekend. Always confirm whether admission covers the entire building or a specific room.

Seating and Layout

The Main Floor is predominantly a standing dance environment. Downstairs places visitors closest to the DJ booth, speakers, lighting, and most intense crowd movement. The upper balcony has cooler air, longer sightlines, a second bar, and a useful meeting point, although it is reached only by stairs. Anyone sensitive to bass or crowd compression will usually be more comfortable upstairs or near the room’s edges.

The Rose Room provides booths and seating around its raised stage, but seats are not individually numbered or normally reservable. Arriving before 10 p.m. gives visitors the best chance of sitting close enough to see costume details without being directly in the performers’ tipping path. The room’s 2004 redesign introduced two seating levels, a rear lounge, a larger bar, backstage facilities, and dedicated restrooms.

Horror Bar and Cheat Code contain additional bar seating and booths, making them practical retreat spaces between dancing and shows. Granite Bar is designed around standing, movement, projection, strobes, and extremely loud electronic music rather than seated viewing. Earplugs are strongly advisable there; the venue specifically warns that it does not provide them at the bar.

Architecture, Design and Production

The 2004 transformation from Village Station into Station 4 removed walls, added a front balcony and a then-designated nonsmoking room, introduced metal finishes, and installed a more powerful sound and lighting system. The Rose Room received the most dramatic change, evolving from a cramped performance space into a substantial cabaret theater. It underwent another modernization in 2016, its first major upgrade after S4 opened.

Current production descriptions identify a single building-tuned sound system serving both Main Floor levels. Granite uses low ceilings, concrete walls, strobes, a projection wall, and a bass-heavy system intended for hard electronic music. The Rose Room supports theatrical lighting and effects appropriate for drag ensembles, pageants, and guest artists. No current brand-level equipment inventory, stage dimensions, loading specifications, rigging plot, or technical rider is publicly available.

Getting There and Parking

S4 stands at Cedar Springs Road and Throckmorton Street in the compact entertainment district known as the Crossroads. Street parking is available along Cedar Springs and neighboring streets, but it becomes scarce on Friday and Saturday nights. Surrounding paid lots typically charge approximately $10 to $25, depending on demand and the event. Valet service normally operates at the front entrance on Friday and Saturday.

The designated rideshare and taxi drop-off point is directly in front of the Cedar Springs marquee. After 1 a.m., congestion and pickup delays are common, especially when nearby bars close or a street event is ending. Moving a block away from the busiest entrance may make it easier to locate a driver, provided the group remains together and stays in a well-lit area.

Current Dallas transit information lists Route 103 as the Cedar Springs bus service, generally running every 20 to 30 minutes during weekday periods. Older venue material still references Route 26, so visitors should treat that number as outdated. S4 is not directly beside a rail platform, and public transportation finishes well before the club’s 4 a.m. close; anyone staying for Afters should arrange a rideshare, taxi, designated driver, or nearby hotel.

Inside the Venue

Entry involves age verification and possible bag inspection. Station 4 requires a physical, unexpired government-issued ID; screenshots, photocopies, student cards, damaged IDs, and most out-of-state digital IDs are rejected. Guests aged 18 to 20 receive a visible wristband and cannot purchase alcohol. Individual rooms or special events may impose a 21-and-older rule, including the Rose Room’s regular Saturday show and the separate Cheat Code lounge.

The complex has multiple bars, an ATM in the lobby, and themed cocktails in Horror Bar. Cash and major cards are accepted, while cash is preferred for tipping Rose Room performers. No regular full food service is advertised, no coat or bag check is available, and merchandise depends on the event. The building becomes warm when crowded, so light clothing and secure footwear are sensible.

Recent visitors commonly praise the size, energetic music, professional drag, friendly bartenders, and ability to move between different atmospheres. Recurring criticisms concern parking difficulty, crowded peak periods, expensive drinks or bottled water, and occasional confusion about cover transactions. Review experiences are subjective, but checking receipts immediately and keeping the wristband and hand stamp secure are practical precautions.

Accessibility and Inclusive Facilities

The downstairs Main Floor, Rose Room, Horror Bar, and Cheat Code are described as wheelchair accessible through the front entrance and interior ramps. The Main Floor balcony requires stairs, but staff can direct wheelchair users to an alternative viewing position downstairs. Service animals are permitted. ASL interpretation can be requested for Rose Room shows with at least 48 hours’ notice. Specific accessible-parking counts and restroom measurements are not publicly documented.

There is no formal dress code, and the venue emphasizes personal expression. Footwear is mandatory, and clothing must satisfy local public-decency requirements. Smoking and vaping, including cannabis products, are prohibited indoors and permitted only on the two designated outdoor patios.

Nearby Amenities

The surrounding Cedar Springs Strip is designed for bar-hopping on foot. Hunky’s serves burgers almost directly across from S4, while Italia Express and Zio Al’s provide pizza, pasta, wings, and late-night food nearby. Neighboring LGBTQ+ venues offer country dancing, neighborhood-bar conversation, karaoke, live music, and additional patios, making it easy to begin somewhere quieter before entering S4.

The Warwick Melrose is one of the closest full-service hotels and is located on Oak Lawn Avenue, roughly within a mile of the club. Hotels in Uptown, Turtle Creek, the Medical District, and Market Center are also short rides away. Visitors staying until 4 a.m. should prioritize a property that permits a simple rideshare trip rather than depending on late-night rail service.

What Makes Station 4 Special

S4’s distinction comes from the combination of history and scale. It is simultaneously a dance club, drag theater, rave room, gaming bar, horror lounge, community gathering place, and successor to businesses that helped establish Cedar Springs as a safe and visible LGBTQ+ district. The Crossroads received a Texas Historical Commission marker in 2018 recognizing its social, economic, and political importance.

Station 4 also contributes to a larger nightlife economy. A city-backed study estimated that Oak Lawn and Cedar Springs nightlife produced a total economic impact of approximately $527.6 million in 2023. That figure applies to the district rather than S4 alone, but the club’s large events, visitors, employment, charitable programs, and support for surrounding restaurants and stores make it one of the neighborhood’s principal anchors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Station 4 in Dallas still open?

Yes. Station 4 remains open at 3911 Cedar Springs Road and is currently operating Wednesday through Sunday. Regular doors generally open at 9 p.m., and the building stays active until 4 a.m. Its current program includes dance floors, Rose Room drag shows, electronic music in Granite Bar, themed entertainment in Horror Bar, and Station 4 Afters after 2 a.m.

How old do you have to be to enter Station 4?

The general Station 4 policy is 18 and older every open night. Guests must be 21 to purchase or consume alcohol. However, individual rooms and events may be restricted to guests 21 and older. The regular Saturday Rose Room show currently carries a 21-and-older policy, and Cheat Code is separately listed as 21 and older every night.

What identification does Station 4 accept?

Bring an unexpired physical government-issued photo ID. Accepted forms include state driver’s licenses, state ID cards, passports, passport cards, military IDs, and foreign passports with photographs. Student cards, photocopies, screenshots, expired documents, and damaged or altered IDs are not accepted. Texas Mobile ID may be accepted, but most out-of-state mobile identification is not.

How much is the Station 4 cover charge?

Cover varies according to the night, room, performer, and event. The Rose Room generally has a brief free period from 10 to 10:30 p.m., followed by an approximately $8 cover. Major DJs, concerts, Pride parties, holiday weekends, and benefits cost more. Budget for both admission and parking, and verify the total before signing any card receipt.

Do Rose Room shows require reservations?

Ordinary Rose Room performances do not use reservations or assigned seats. Admission and seating are first come, first served. Arrive before the free-entry period begins if sitting near the stage matters to you. Reserved booths with bottle service may be available for larger groups, but those arrangements differ from standard show admission and should be requested well in advance.

What time should I arrive for the drag show?

The regular Rose Room show starts at approximately 11 p.m. Arriving between 9:30 and 10 p.m. usually gives you time to clear security, select a first-come seat, get cash for performer tips, and order a drink. Arriving just before showtime may leave only standing room or seats with less convenient sightlines, especially on Saturdays and holiday weekends.

Is Station 4 wheelchair accessible?

The front entrance, downstairs Main Floor, Rose Room, Horror Bar, and Cheat Code are described as wheelchair accessible using ramps and level routes. The upper Main Floor balcony is accessible only by stairs. Staff can help identify a comparable downstairs viewing location. Visitors needing ASL interpretation for a Rose Room performance should arrange it at least 48 hours before the show.

Where should I park for Station 4?

Options include street spaces on Cedar Springs and nearby side streets, surrounding paid lots, and Friday or Saturday valet service at the entrance. Paid parking commonly runs about $10 to $25 but increases during Pride, Halloween, and major events. Parking can be difficult after 10 p.m., so arrive early or use a rideshare if you intend to drink.

Can I take public transportation to Station 4?

Yes, but public transportation works better for arrival than departure. Current transit listings identify Route 103 as the Cedar Springs bus route. Station 4 is not directly adjacent to a rail platform, and regular bus and rail service ends well before the club closes at 4 a.m. Plan a separate late-night ride if you expect to stay after last call.

What is the Station 4 bag policy?

Bags may measure up to 12 by 6 by 12 inches, approximately the size of a shoebox or small backpack. Clear bags can speed up inspection. Large backpacks, totes, duffel bags, hydration packs, and oversized items may be refused. Every bag is subject to inspection, and there is no bag or coat check where prohibited belongings can be stored.

Does Station 4 have a dress code?

There is no fashion-based dress code, and visitors are encouraged to express themselves. Shoes must remain on throughout the visit. Clothing must still comply with state and local requirements, meaning buttocks, private areas, and under-breasts must remain covered. Practical footwear is preferable because the Main Floor becomes crowded, warm, and slippery during busy dance nights.

Can I leave Station 4 and come back?

Paid guests can normally re-enter through the designated re-entry door without joining the main line again. Keep both your wristband and hand stamp intact. Re-entry ends at 2 a.m. when Station 4 Afters begins. Guests admitted during a free-entry period may not receive re-entry privileges unless they paid at their original entry, so ask the door host before leaving.

Does Station 4 accept cash and cards?

Cash and major credit or debit cards are accepted at the bars. An ATM is located in the lobby. Bring small cash bills if attending the Rose Room because performers traditionally collect tips during their numbers. When paying by card, review the total, complete the receipt, and retain it until the transaction appears correctly on your account.

Does Station 4 sell food?

A dependable in-house food menu is not advertised, so visitors should eat before entering rather than counting on dinner inside. Several casual restaurants and late-night pizza or pasta counters operate within a short walk on Cedar Springs. This is especially useful before drinking or after the 2 a.m. transition, when Station 4 continues dancing but regular alcohol service has ended.

Are photography and video allowed?

Personal photography is permitted, but ask before photographing other guests and respect anyone who declines. Flash is prohibited during performances in the Rose Room and Horror Bar. The venue also records photographs and video for security, archival, and promotional purposes. Guests concerned about appearing in venue footage should notify a manager, although exclusion from wide crowd shots cannot be guaranteed.

Can I smoke or vape inside Station 4?

No. Cigarettes, e-cigarettes, vape pens, and cannabis products may not be used indoors. Smoking and vaping are restricted to two outdoor patios, one associated with each main level. Because the patios can become crowded, visitors with smoke sensitivities may prefer indoor rest areas such as Horror Bar rather than using a patio simply to escape the dance-floor volume.
