About Shhh… Lounge

Shhh… Lounge was a hidden speakeasy-style bar in South Beach, Miami Beach, known for its intimate, underground vibe. Tucked beneath the Franklin Hotel (860 Collins Ave, a 1934 Art Deco building), its entrance was behind a secret bookshelf door in the hotel lobby www.ticketfairy.com. The interior combined vintage Miami Art Deco details with a gritty New York–style hip-hop feel. Designers used charred “shou sugi ban” wood on the bar front and even added a Marilyn Monroe–inspired liquid-nitrogen vent as a quirky centerpiece www.ticketfairy.com . TimeOut called it “Miami Beach’s hottest new bar,” and World Red Eye dubbed it “Miami’s best kept secret” when it opened in 2019 . Because of its small footprint, Shhh… could only hold a few dozen people at a time www.ticketfairy.com, which made it feel exclusive and packed on busy nights. (Note: Shhh… Lounge permanently closed after 2020, but its design and legacy are still remembered by Miami locals www.ticketfairy.com.)

Events and Programming

Shhh… Lounge focused on nightlife, not live concerts. Most evenings featured DJs playing old-school hip-hop, R&B and throwback hits, often under theme nights. In its heyday it ran nightly parties – especially on weekends – that kept people dancing until the early hours www.ticketfairy.com. Local and guest DJs (e.g. DJ Iron Lyon, DJ Chizzle, others from the Miami scene) spun classic urban tracks and remixes to packed crowds . World Red Eye photo reports from 2019 show fully packed “Shh Lounge Saturdays” and “Shh Lounge Mondays” where partygoers danced non-stop . The schedule sometimes included special events or VIP gatherings – after-party celebrations for Miami Carnival or themed fashion events – all promoted on local nightlife calendars. Cover charges were normal for weekends and theme nights, and sign-up or guest-list promotion might appear on the venue’s social channels. Typical door cover was in the $40–70 range on peak Friday/Saturday nights www.ticketfairy.com. There was no formal box office – for most events you either paid at the door or got on a guest list in advance www.ticketfairy.com. In short, Shhh… offered a curated club experience more than a traditional concert, and nearly all entertainment was DJ-driven with patrons standing and dancing throughout www.ticketfairy.com www.ticketfairy.com.

Tickets and Booking

Shhh… Lounge did not sell advance tickets through a box office or pop-up ticket outlet www.ticketfairy.com. Instead, entry usually meant showing up and paying the cover charge at the door. Because it was all nightclub-style events, patrons typically paid cover (usually $40–$70 on weekends) rather than pre-booking seats www.ticketfairy.com www.ticketfairy.com. There was no public online ticketing system – event details and guest-list sign-ups were handled through social media invites and email promotions. Larger private parties or bottle service could be arranged by directly contacting the club staff in advance, but day-to-day entry was “first come, first served” subject to capacity www.ticketfairy.com. Most nights had a strict 21+ policy (ID checked at the door) www.ticketfairy.com www.ticketfairy.com. Because popular nights could draw a line, planning ahead was wise: organizers often provided guest-list spots and the venue recommended arriving early or adding your name to the list to avoid long waits www.ticketfairy.com. (As noted, Shhh… Lounge itself is now closed, so these procedures no longer apply today www.ticketfairy.com.)

Seating and Layout

Inside, Shhh… was very “up close and personal.” The space was long and narrow with dim (moody) lighting, feeling more like an underground NYC club than a large South Beach lounge www.ticketfairy.com. A polished wood-and-charred-wood bar ran along one side, with a few high stools for patrons to perch. Opposite the bar was a custom DJ booth, and beyond it a small open dance floor where most guests gathered www.ticketfairy.com. The rest of the floor plan consisted of low-back lounge seating and booths along the walls – there were no rows of chairs or theater-style seats. Because the room was compact, practically every spot had a good view of the DJ. For a slightly quieter vantage, one could sit by the bar for people-watching or stand near the DJ booth to feel fully immersed in the music www.ticketfairy.com. (Note: the vintage phone booth against the wall was just a decorative photo-op – not an actual seat www.ticketfairy.com.) Sound tended to reverberate, so the far back corners got a bit muffled; anyone sensitive to loud bass might stay central. Any “VIP” area was simply a reserved table section either along the rear wall or near the DJ, used for bottle service and private groups. In essence, Shhh… was mostly standing-room with a lively dance-oriented layout, save for a handful of small booths that could be booked by larger groups www.ticketfairy.com. Because seating was limited and the bar busy, the crowd often leaned against the rail or stood by tables. Overall it felt like a cozy club – not a theater – so even fans at the back were pushing near each other.

Getting There and Parking

Shhh… Lounge was located at 860 Collins Avenue in Miami Beach, near the corner of Collins and an intersecting street just north of Lincoln Road www.ticketfairy.com. It sits in the heart of South Beach, within easy walking distance of many hotels, restaurants and the beach (the Franklin Hotel building is itself an Art Deco landmark) www.ticketfairy.com. If driving, one can reach Collins Avenue from I-95 (take the 5th Street exit) or from north via A1A/Ocean Drive. South Beach has scarce street parking: metered spots along Collins are limited and usually fill up, and watch the posted hours. Easier paid parking is out on Lincoln Road or nearby lots – for example, municipal garages near 16th Street and Collins or metered lots on Lincoln are common choices www.ticketfairy.com. Guests often prefer drop-off: Uber or Lyft can pull right up to the hidden entrance (or the small circular drive in front of the hotel) www.ticketfairy.com. Taxis can also drop you on Collins Ave or at the hotel’s front loop. For public transit, Miami Beach’s free trolley stops within a block (Lincoln Road and Washington Avenue stops serve that area) www.ticketfairy.com. Likewise, several Metrobus lines run along Collins Ave and 5th Street. From downtown or the airport, the South Beach Airport Express (Route 150) stops nearby, making it convenient for out-of-towners. In general, most visitors find rideshare or walking the final block simpler, since South Beach can be busy and parking tight www.ticketfairy.com.

Inside the Venue

Stepping through the hidden door at Shhh… Lounge felt like entering another world. Once the bookshelf swung open, you were in a dimly lit, narrow Art Deco–styled lounge www.ticketfairy.com. A doorman or bouncer checked IDs at the door (strictly 21+ was enforced) www.ticketfairy.com, so always have your photo ID ready. The décor was rich and moody: low carpets (to dampen sound) underfoot, vintage Art Deco moldings overhead and soft light emphasizing the black-and-charred-wood bar facade. A retro phone booth on the wall served no real function but made a popular Instagram backdrop for selfies www.ticketfairy.com www.ticketfairy.com. Behind the bar, skilled bartenders worked from illuminated glass shelves, mixing a menu of creative cocktails, specialty shots and local craft beers www.ticketfairy.com. Drinks ranged from updated classics to playful hip-hop–era inspired cocktails – expect cosmopolitans, flavored martinis and “hottest tracks” shot specials. Because it was primarily a bar, there was no full kitchen; maybe the staff offered small bar bites or quick snacks at best, but don’t plan on a meal here. Restrooms were located toward the back of the space (one each for men and women) and tended to get busy on peak nights www.ticketfairy.com. Note that a coat check was not obvious – there wasn’t a separate staffed check room, so most guests simply tucked jackets behind the bar or under a booth seat www.ticketfairy.com. The staff dressed smart-casual (club attire) and kept the vibe relaxed yet upscale. There was a loose dress code: you didn’t have to be in a suit, but sneakers and shorts were discouraged (nice jeans and shirts were the norm, no flip-flops or tank tops) www.ticketfairy.com. Photography-wise, cell-phone snapshots were fine (in fact, common), but patrons with professional photo or video cameras were usually asked to keep them off the dance floor www.ticketfairy.com. Before the music started, the lounge felt crackling with anticipation. Once the DJ began, the built-in sound system delivered loud, clear bass and crisp mixes, enough to fill the space without distortion www.ticketfairy.com. The atmosphere was exclusive and a bit mysterious – the hidden entry, charged air, and friendly staff made it feel special. Networking lighting effects were limited (think subtle spotlights or neon behind the bar rather than massive strobes), which suited the intimate scale. Overall, Shhh… Lounge inside was trendy and energetic but still cozy: the artful interior design and friendly clubby atmosphere invited people to dance, chat or just soak in the throwback mood www.ticketfairy.com .

Nearby Amenities

Because Shhh… Lounge sat right in South Beach’s nightlife hub, the area is loaded with pre- and post-event options. A block north is Lincoln Road Mall – an open-air pedestrian street lined with dozens of restaurants, cafes and shops. Here you’ll find everything from casual sandwich shops and pizza joints to upscale seafood bars (for example, Shake Shack, Lincoln Road Kitchen, or WasherWoman are popular stops). If you want Italian or Mediterranean cuisine nearby, spots like Fi’lia (marble-accented Italian spot at 910 Collins) or Davanti Enoteca are within a couple blocks. For lighter fare and coffee, Caffe Milano and Rocco’s Tacos on Lincoln offer quick bites, and the trendy brunch crowd heads to Big Pink (a famous 24-hour diner at Collins & 14th) or the Hotel Victor’s sleek restaurant just a few blocks southeast. Bars and nightlife venues abound as well. On Ocean Drive to the east (only a block or two over), venues like Mango’s Tropical Cafe and the Clevelander Hotel offer outdoor dance floors and poolsides. Just one block south on Collins is the Clevelander’s multiple levels of bar/club space. A short walk up Washington Avenue or Española Way (between 11th and 16th) will open up dozens more lounges, cafes and late-night bars. Even the lobby bar of the Franklin Suites (the Corinthian Hotel’s Bar Collins) is just downstairs in the hotel itself – a convenient spot for a pre-show cocktail or after-party nightcap. Stay options are plentiful nearby. Besides Franklin Suites itself (where Shhh… lived), larger hotels like the Loews Miami Beach (5 blocks north at 1671 Collins) and the Bentley Hotel (900 block of Collins) are within walking distance. For more upscale stays, the Shore Club and Nautilus Hotel on Collins (13th–15th St) are very close. Many visitors who plan multi-night stays choose the dozens of boutique hotels along Collins or Ocean Drive near Lincoln Road, then stroll to Shhh…. Because of the many hotels, restaurants and attractions, it’s wise to arrive early on event nights. Friday and Saturday evenings can have long entry lines by 10pm. If you’re coming from one of the big nearby clubs or hotels, plan at least 30 minutes for any walk or cab ride. Likewise, late-night transport is easy since you’re blocks from Lincoln Road and Ocean Drive where cabs and Ubers circulate continually. (Note that the free beach trolleys stop running usually just after midnight, so after-hours travel tends to shift to rideshares or taxis www.ticketfairy.com.)

What Makes This Venue Special

Shhh… Lounge stood out in Miami Beach for its blend of secret-speakeasy charm and cultural homage. First, the building itself is historic: the Franklin Hotel dates back to 1934 with classic Art Deco friezes on its facade www.ticketfairy.com. By installing a hidden door and nods to vintage design (like the retro phone booth and the charred-wood bar), Shhh… carried that Deco heritage into the 21st century. The interior design was award-worthy – Scotty Wonders (the firm behind it) crowed that the project “showcases Miami Made at its finest” with its live-edge bar, custom DJ booth and stylized smoke effects . Those details gave it both local soul and a film-noir atmosphere. The music and vibe added to its legend. In a city known for EDM and house music, Shhh… embraced 1970s-’90s hip-hop and R&B, making it a niche destination for fans of those genres. Visitors loved that the lounge felt like a “mixed vibe between nostalgic New York City streets and sophisticated South Beach” . No staid seating meant everyone mingled on the dance floor, giving it a friendly, “everyone’s invited” feel. Many locals remember its launch as a breath of fresh air – it became “Miami Beach’s hottest new bar” almost immediately . Word-of-mouth was huge; as one club blogger put it, “keep the secret… [it] was lit on Monday night” even when new . Over its short run, it carved a subculture niche. It was an intimate spot where up-and-coming DJs in Miami’s scene could play for a real crowd and fans could lose themselves in the moment (or coordinate after-parties for Yearly events like Carnival). The secret entrance itself became legendary – part treasure hunt, part badge of belonging. In many ways, Shhh… Lounge exemplified Miami Beach’s Art Deco spirit (historic architecture, attention to design detail) combined with the city’s laid-back, party-driven culture. Both performers and patrons loved it for that reason – artists got a cool vintage space to spin old-school hits, and audiences found an authentic urban-style lounge hidden in an unlikely place. Even its quirks (the fake phone booth, the steamy Monroe smoke effect) added to the fun story people tell after a night out. All of these factors made Shhh… Lounge more than just another bar; it became woven into Miami Beach nightlife lore.

Visitor Tips and Information

**Accessibility:** The Franklin Hotel (which housed Shhh… Lounge) is wheelchair accessible and has ADA-compliant facilities . However, the hidden entrance and narrow hallways of the lounge might pose challenges, so it’s best to call ahead if you have special mobility needs. **What to Bring:** Always bring a federally issued photo ID (driver’s license or passport) – Shhh enforced a strict 21-and-over policy www.ticketfairy.com www.ticketfairy.com. Wallet, phone and a credit card for cover charges are a must. The club is mostly standing-room, so wear comfortable shoes (e.g. closed-toe sneakers or boots) – you’ll be on your feet dancing or leaning at the bar. A small purse or cell phone is fine, but avoid carrying large bags or backpacks; there is no secure coat check, so heavy coats and bags are inconvenient www.ticketfairy.com. On busy nights, arriving 30–45 minutes before showtime can help you avoid a long queue or meet-up rush www.ticketfairy.com. **Dress Code:** Miami Beach nightlife tends to be a bit dressier than the daytime beachwear crowd. Shhh… Lounge was casual-upscale: no shorts, flip-flops, baseball caps or athletic wear allowed www.ticketfairy.com. Men generally wore collared shirts or nice tees and jeans, and women dressed stylishly (jeans, dresses or chic separates). Doormen enforced the policy, so sticking to “South Beach nice” will save hassle. **Video/Photography Policy:** Amateur cameras and phones are fine – in fact, the vintage phone booth on the wall was there for guest selfies! www.ticketfairy.com. However, professional video cameras or large DSLRs may be declined at the door www.ticketfairy.com. (Recording DJs without permission isn’t part of the vibe.) **Bag Policy:** Lightweight bags or clutches are okay, but security may sellotape down large items. Since there’s no coat check or locker, avoid bulky jackets; you’ll likely stash them under a table or near the bar if it’s cold. **Smoking:** By law, indoor smoking (including e-cigarettes) was not permitted. If someone wanted to smoke, they likely stepped outside to the sidewalk by the hotel entrance. (As with any Miami club, check current rules, but indoors should always be smoke-free.) **Cover Charges and ID:** Always carry your ID and expect a cover fee on weekends or special nights. Club staff collected cover at the door www.ticketfairy.com and checked ID carefully. If you’re coordinating a group, let the host or promoter know in advance – they might add you to the list to skip the line www.ticketfairy.com. **Restrooms and Facilities:** Restrooms were at the rear of the lounge www.ticketfairy.com. Since the space was cozy, bathrooms sometimes had a wait on peak nights – plan accordingly. There was no separate coatroom or baby-changing area on site. **Best Times:** For a true Shhh… Lounge experience, the weekend parties (especially late Friday and Saturday nights) were best – crowds, energy and DJs were strongest. If you prefer a slightly calmer visit, early weeknights (Thursday or even Monday) often drew a smaller but still lively crowd. **Food and Drink:** Remember that Shhh… was a bar, not a restaurant. You’ll find an inventive cocktail menu, beer, wine and spirits behind the bar, but only light snack plates at most (no full meals). Eat beforehand if you want a full dinner. Nearby restaurants (see above) are easy to reach by foot if you arrive early. **Payment:** The lounge took cards and cash for drinks and cover. It’s always safe to have some cash for quick tips or small purchases, but credit cards are widely accepted on bars at least. **Emergency/Contact:** In case of any issues, the entrance is right off Collins Ave. It’s well-populated, and security personnel were on-site. If you get separated from friends, Collins Avenue is easy to navigate and has taxis and hotels nearby. **Max Capacity:** The official capacity was small (under 100), so it could fill up quickly. If the club was posted “at capacity,” waiting outside was likely. Planning for an off-peak time or getting on the guest list could help. **Insider Tips:** Join mailing lists or follow the promoter’s social media for any pop-up events featuring special guest DJs. Also note that Miami Beach enforces strict ID checks city-wide – even if a venue is low-key, don’t bring underage friends. **Final Note:** As of the mid-2020s, Shhh… Lounge remains **closed**, so check for any new venues or successors in the same location if planning a future visit. Its legacy lives on in photos and stories, but for now any “visit” would be purely historic. Always verify current status (and hours) of any venue, especially nightlife spots, before you go.

Is Shhh… Lounge still open?

No – Shhh… Lounge closed permanently in the early 2020s www.ticketfairy.com. There are currently no events or operating hours. Anyone interested should verify if a new venue has taken its place, but as of now it is not open for business.

Where is Shhh… Lounge located?

Shhh… Lounge was inside the Franklin Hotel at 860 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach 33139 www.ticketfairy.com, just north of Lincoln Road. The entrance was a hidden bookshelf door in the hotel lobby.

How do I get tickets or reserve a spot at Shhh… Lounge?

Shhh… Lounge did not have traditional tickets or reservations for regular events. Entry was generally by paying the cover charge at the door www.ticketfairy.com or being on a guest list if one was arranged through promoters. There was no public box office or advance online ticketing – events were promoted on social media and attendees simply showed up and paid at the door (on busy nights you could add your name to the list beforehand). Note that since the venue is now closed, these policies no longer apply.

What is the cover charge at Shhh… Lounge?

Cover charges varied by night and event. On typical busy weekend nights, cover was often in the $40–$70 range www.ticketfairy.com. Less crowded nights or weekdays might have a lower cover or no charge. All covers were collected at the door (there was no advance box office). Remember that the space was intimate, so if big crowds were expected, arriving early was important.

What are the entry requirements (age, dress code, etc.)?

Shhh… Lounge enforced a 21-and-over policy. You needed a valid photo ID (driver’s license or passport) to enter www.ticketfairy.com www.ticketfairy.com. There was a semi-smart dress code: no shorts, flip-flops or baseball caps. Guests typically came in nice jeans, polo or button-down shirts for men and stylish casual attire for women www.ticketfairy.com. Basically, come “Miami Beach nice,” and be prepared to show ID at the door.

How do I get to Shhh… Lounge? (Transit and parking)

Shhh… Lounge was at 860 Collins Avenue (south of Lincoln Road) www.ticketfairy.com. If driving, use I-95 to the 5th Street exit or take A1A along Ocean Drive. On-street parking on Collins is metered and limited – it’s often easier to park in one of the paid lots on nearby Lincoln Road or use a public garage. Many visitors took Uber/Lyft or taxis; drop-off can be right at the hotel entrance or along Collins. For transit, the free Miami Beach trolley has stops on Lincoln Rd/Wash Ave nearby, and several bus lines (including the 150 airport express) stop on Collins.

What is the capacity and layout of Shhh… Lounge?

The venue was small and intimate – generally holding only a few dozen people at once www.ticketfairy.com. Inside, the layout was narrow and underground-style. One wall was a long wood-and-charred-wood bar with high stools www.ticketfairy.com, and opposite was a raised DJ booth facing a compact dance floor. The remaining space had a few low-backed banquettes and wall booths for seating. Most of the floor was standing-room, so everyone could easily see and hear the DJ. There was no separate performance stage; the DJ booth and dance floor were central. Even at full capacity the crowd filled the room, so there were no “bad seats” – staying near the bar or booth was usually best for views www.ticketfairy.com.

What kind of music and events did Shhh… Lounge host?

Shhh… specialized in DJ-driven club nights. The focus was on old-school hip-hop, R&B and throwback hits – not live bands. There were theme nights (for example, “Shhh Lounge Saturdays” or “Mondays”), guest DJs, and family-friendly throwback parties. World Red Eye reports confirm it was known for wild DJ-driven Saturday nights with non-stop dancing . Aside from regular club nights, the club occasionally did special after-party events (like Miami Carnival or fashion week parties). No full-stage concerts were held – just deejays spinning records for an early-morning dance party www.ticketfairy.com.

Were there VIP tables or bottle service available?

Yes. Though seating was generally standing-room, Shhh… had a handful of small booth sections along the back wall that could be reserved for groups. These acted as VIP tables for bottle service. If you booked a VIP table (usually in advance through a promoter or by calling the club), you’d get a private area near the DJ booth or along the perimeter to gather with your party. Otherwise, there was no formal box office seating – just the bar stools and wall banquettes on a first-come basis www.ticketfairy.com.

Is Shhh… Lounge wheelchair accessible?

The Franklin Hotel (which houses Shhh… Lounge) is listed as wheelchair accessible and has ADA-compliant rooms and facilities . In practice, however, the lounge entrance was a heavy bookshelf door and the interior was fairly tight. Some parts of the club (like the lobby and restrooms) are accessible, but portions of the lounge had steps and narrow spaces. It’s recommended to contact the venue ahead of time for specific assistance.

Does Shhh… Lounge have a coat check or lockers?

No. There was no formal coat check at Shhh… Lounge www.ticketfairy.com. Guests usually kept personal items with them or tucked jackets under a booth seat or table. Because of the space constraints, anything not on you should be kept minimal. It’s best to leave large bags or bulky coats at your hotel or car before entering.

Are there food or drink options inside Shhh… Lounge?

Shhh… was primarily a bar, not a full restaurant. The focus was on cocktails, beer and toasts, not dining. The menu featured creative cocktails, wine and local craft beers behind the bar www.ticketfairy.com. There was no kitchen for full meals – at most you might find small snack plates or hors d’oeuvres. Guests were encouraged to dine before or after – several restaurants are a short walk away (on Lincoln Road or Collins) for a proper meal.

Is there a smoking area?

As with most indoor Miami bars, smoking (including e-cigarettes) was not allowed inside due to local laws. Patrons who wanted to smoke would step outside – typically onto the hotel’s sidewalk area. Always check current Miami Beach rules, but you should assume indoor smoking was prohibited.

Where can I park for Shhh… Lounge?

Street parking in South Beach is limited and usually metered (and often fills up quickly). Visitors often use the paid parking garages or lots one block away on Lincoln Road (for example, near 16th Street & Lincoln) www.ticketfairy.com. These are usually the easiest to find a spot. If driving, allow extra time to find parking. Many guests prefer to use rideshare (Uber/Lyft) or taxis to avoid parking entirely.

What should I do if Shhh… Lounge is full?

If the club reached capacity, it was common to hold a line outside until space freed up. In such cases, arriving earlier or seeing if a promoter can put you on a guest list would help. Otherwise, consider nearby bars or lounges while you wait. The surrounding area (Collins and Lincoln in South Beach) usually has plenty of alternatives for a drink until you can get in.
