About The House Downtown Bar

The House Downtown Bar is a cocktail lounge, neighborhood bar, sports-viewing spot, and small events space at 513 North Grant Avenue between Fifth and Sixth streets in downtown Odessa. Current published hours are 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily. The business remains open and trading under The House Downtown Bar name as of August 2026.

The venue occupies a 2,500-square-foot commercial building constructed in 1946. County records describe brick, stone, or stucco veneer walls, a concrete-slab foundation, a composite-shingle roof, mixed hard flooring, and central heating and air conditioning. The lot is approximately 25 feet wide by 140 feet deep, although those parcel dimensions should not be treated as the dimensions of the public barroom. No trustworthy public source gives the licensed occupancy or standing capacity.

The House grew from a downtown redevelopment project rather than a purpose-built nightclub. In June 2020, Odessa approved a façade grant for owner Karla Flores, with the property described at that stage as a proposed bar-and-restaurant facility. The plans represented a combined business and façade investment of $46,560 and were expected to take about a year. In 2021, a second round of work focused on necessary interior repairs and code-related upgrades. City discussions described the intended concept as an upscale lounge and approved an infrastructure grant of up to $40,951.25.

A state architectural record lists a privately funded, $150,000 interior renovation scheduled from May through August 2021. The surviving records establish the development period but do not provide a reliable grand-opening date. The bar was being promoted as an operating downtown nightlife business by 2022.

Events and Programming

The House is programmed more like a flexible local bar than a formal concert venue. Its regular pattern combines nightlife, DJs, games, themed drink nights, sports on television, karaoke, trivia, small live performances, private gatherings, and downtown community events. A current weekly schedule advertises silent movies on Mondays, tequila specials on Tuesdays, well-drink promotions on Wednesdays, beer and seltzer buckets on Thursdays, a girls’ night on Fridays, a DJ from 10 p.m. on Saturdays, and Sunday brunch-style cocktails.

Verified past programming illustrates the range. A February 2025 Old School Night ran from the afternoon through the 2 a.m. close. A touring independent musician performed in January 2025, while a March 2025 downtown photo walk began at The House before continuing to a pop-up market. The venue also hosted a resident-and-fellow appreciation gathering and has participated in Odessa’s First Friday program with local art, live music, and themed karaoke.

One of its most distinctive programs is Odessa Has Talent, a local competition open to singers, comedians, dancers, magicians, musicians, and unusual specialty acts. Selected performers appear before judges and a live crowd, with a published $500 nightly prize and leading contestants advancing toward a grand finale. This program demonstrates that The House can accommodate solo acts and compact performance setups, although no stage measurements, backline inventory, or production rider has been published.

No complete public archive captures every event held from 2021 through 2026, and no dated 2027-or-later season has been confirmed. The most reliable long-term picture is recurring Saturday DJs, themed weekly nights, First Friday participation, local talent showcases, karaoke, private events, and occasional live performers—not a fixed calendar of nationally touring concerts.

Tickets and Booking

Many ordinary nights appear to operate as walk-in bar service rather than advance-ticketed performances. A standard cover charge, box office, presale system, reserved-seat scale, or typical concert-ticket range has not been published. Special shows, competitions, and externally organized events may establish their own admission arrangements, so visitors should not assume that every event is free or that door sales will always be available.

For a Saturday DJ night, First Friday activation, holiday party, or promoted performance, arriving before the late-night crowd is the safest strategy. The room’s documented 2,500-square-foot size makes it considerably more intimate than a theater or large dance hall. The House also accepts inquiries for private events, but public rental prices, minimum spends, deposits, and included equipment are not disclosed.

Seating and Layout

The interior combines a long illuminated bar, bar stools, freestanding tables, lounge-style social areas, televisions, and game space. Published photographs show a dark exposed ceiling, modern starburst light fixtures, color-changing club lighting, backlit bottle shelves, and a contemporary black-and-neutral palette. The result can shift from relaxed cocktail lounge early in the evening to a busier nightclub atmosphere after the DJ begins.

Pool, foosball, and tabletop games are consistently mentioned in current visitor descriptions. Seating is not presented as fixed, numbered, or theater-style, and no permanent balcony, grandstand, VIP platform, or dedicated accessible viewing section has been documented. For conversation, an early arrival and a table away from the principal speakers will generally be more comfortable. For dancing or a performance, choose a standing position with a direct view before the room fills.

One visitor specifically praised the staff but found the bar stools uncomfortable. That is a subjective complaint rather than a universal problem, but anyone planning a long stay may prefer a regular table when one is available.

Getting There and Parking

The House is in the central Grant Avenue corridor, one block north of Fifth Street. Drivers will find curbside spaces and numerous surface parking lots throughout downtown, but there is no confirmed venue-owned lot or universally published parking charge. Odessa converted some nearby spaces on Fourth and Fifth streets from parallel to angled parking to increase practical curbside availability. Always observe posted time limits, event closures, reserved-lot signs, and towing notices.

Rideshare is usually the most practical choice for guests staying through the 2 a.m. close. Arrange pickup on Grant Avenue or a nearby cross street only where stopping is legal, and avoid waiting in an active travel lane. First Friday, downtown festivals, courthouse activity, and street programming can temporarily change traffic circulation, so allow extra time on major event nights.

Public transportation is useful primarily for arriving early. Odessa’s Downtown Transfer Plaza is at Fifth Street and Lincoln Avenue, a short walk from the bar. The local adult fixed-route fare is currently $1.25 one way, with a $3 all-day pass. Regular city service operates approximately 6:15 a.m. to 7:10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:15 a.m. to 4:10 p.m. Saturday. It does not provide a realistic late-night return after a DJ set or 2 a.m. closing, making a designated driver, taxi, or rideshare essential.

Inside the Venue

The atmosphere changes noticeably by time and event. Early evening is better suited to cocktails, conversation, games, and televised sports. Reviews describe a combination of nightclub energy and a calmer sit-down vibe, with repeated praise for friendly, efficient bartenders, cleanliness, modern architecture, and the upgraded interior. Some guests also warn that music can become very loud, particularly later at night.

The drinks program is broader than the food offering. Signature cocktails have included the House Chilton, Cucumber Chilton, Lavender Love, Watermelon Mule, Tamarindo Paloma, Lemon Drop Martini, and seasonal whiskey, tequila, and espresso-based drinks. Published cocktail prices generally fall from about $7.50 to $18.50, while bottled beer commonly falls around $5 to $7.50. Prices and seasonal selections can change.

Do not plan on a full dinner inside. The currently published food selection is limited to packaged snacks such as pretzel sticks, chips, and beer nuts. A kitchen menu, coat check, permanent merchandise counter, public Wi-Fi service, charging station, and dedicated cloakroom have not been confirmed.

No detailed bag policy, photography rule, smoking policy, dress code, cashless requirement, or universal age restriction is publicly stated. Guests should carry valid government-issued identification, use a small bag when possible, and expect staff to apply event-specific entry and safety requirements. Professional cameras, outside alcohol, weapons, and disruptive conduct should never be assumed permissible.

Nearby Amenities

The central location makes pre-event dining straightforward. El Sinaloense Mariscos & Bar is directly across Grant Avenue, while Grant Street Tacos is nearby on the same corridor. Torchy’s Tacos, Homemade Wines Downtown Bistro, and other downtown restaurants are within a few blocks. Because The House presently emphasizes drinks and snacks, eating before arrival is the best plan for anyone expecting a substantial meal.

The Odessa Marriott Hotel & Conference Center at 305 East Fifth Street is the closest major hotel and is within a short downtown walk. The Ector Theatre, local cafés, First Friday stops, galleries, and civic destinations are also concentrated nearby. Visitors staying outside downtown should prearrange late-night transportation rather than relying on bus service after closing.

What Makes This Venue Special

The House represents a small but visible piece of Odessa’s downtown reinvestment. Its 1946 storefront was adapted through façade work, private renovation spending, and public infrastructure incentives intended to return older Grant Avenue properties to active commercial use. Rather than erasing the compact historic footprint, the project placed a modern lounge inside it.

Its cultural value comes from flexibility. On one night it can function as a cocktail bar with pool and televised sports; on another, it can host a DJ, karaoke, local artists, a talent competition, a private appreciation event, or a downtown photo walk. First Friday participation also gives musicians and community groups an additional stop along Grant Avenue, strengthening pedestrian activity between neighboring restaurants, shops, and cultural venues.

Visitor Tips and Accessibility

The 2021 renovation was registered under Texas architectural-barriers procedures, and the project record is marked “review complete.” However, the available documentation does not confirm the entrance threshold, door widths, accessible restroom configuration, wheelchair turning space, lowered bar service, accessible parking location, assisted-listening equipment, or a completed accessibility inspection. Visitors with specific mobility, hearing, vision, or seating needs should confirm suitable arrangements before attending.

Arrive between 4 and 8 p.m. for the quietest experience, easier seating, and happy-hour pricing when offered. Arrive before 10 p.m. on Saturdays if you want a table before the DJ starts. Eat beforehand, carry identification, plan your trip home in advance, and bring hearing protection if you are sensitive to amplified music. Avoid leaving valuables visible in a parked vehicle, and never assume that an unmarked surface lot permits public overnight parking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is The House Downtown Bar still open?

Yes. As of August 2026, The House Downtown Bar continues to operate at 513 North Grant Avenue under the same name. Its published regular hours are 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily, although private events, holidays, maintenance, or special programming can alter access. The venue’s current materials continue to advertise drinks, games, events, and space for private gatherings.

What is the capacity of The House Downtown Bar?

No verified licensed capacity has been published. The building contains approximately 2,500 square feet, but square footage cannot safely be converted into an occupancy figure because capacity depends on exits, furnishings, service areas, restrooms, fire-code calculations, and event configuration. Treat The House as an intimate bar rather than a large concert venue, and arrive early for heavily promoted nights.

Does The House have assigned seating?

No assigned, numbered, or theater-style seating system has been documented. The venue uses a flexible bar-and-lounge arrangement with stools, tables, standing areas, and space for games or entertainment. Availability is likely first come, first served on ordinary nights. Special private events may rearrange furniture, so the exact configuration and the amount of standing room can vary considerably.

Is The House mainly a bar or a live music venue?

It is primarily a cocktail bar and late-night lounge that also hosts entertainment. Programming includes DJs, karaoke, trivia, talent competitions, occasional musicians, sports viewing, games, community gatherings, and First Friday activities. It does not publish the continuous touring schedule, stage dimensions, technical rider, or fixed seating plan associated with a dedicated concert hall.

What nights have DJs?

The current recurring schedule advertises a Saturday DJ beginning at 10 p.m. Other special events may include different entertainment, but Saturday is the most clearly established weekly dance-oriented night. Guests wanting seats should arrive beforehand, while those seeking the liveliest atmosphere will generally find it later. Music volume can be high, according to recent visitor feedback.

Does The House serve food?

The published menu shows packaged bar snacks rather than a full kitchen. Current examples include chips, pretzel sticks, and beer nuts. Anyone planning to drink for several hours should eat at one of the nearby downtown restaurants before entering. Earlier development records described a bar-and-restaurant concept, but the present public menu does not confirm full meal service.

How expensive are drinks?

Published menu prices place many signature cocktails at roughly $7.50 to $12, with some premium drinks reaching about $18.50. Bottled beers generally appear around $5 to $7.50, while buckets and seasonal promotions cost more. Happy-hour and themed-night specials can lower the price. These figures are useful planning ranges rather than guaranteed prices for every future visit.

Is there a standard cover charge?

No universal cover charge has been published. Regular bar nights may operate on a walk-in basis, while performances, competitions, private parties, and outside-promoted events may use separate admission rules. Because no permanent box office or standard ticket scale is documented, visitors should budget for the possibility of event-specific entry charges without assuming that every DJ or karaoke night requires a ticket.

Where should I park?

Look for legal curbside parking on Grant Avenue and neighboring streets or public surface spaces within the surrounding blocks. Some nearby Fourth and Fifth Street spaces use angled parking. The House does not advertise a dedicated private lot, and parking costs are not consistently published. Read every sign carefully because private, employee, hotel, and event-reserved lots may enforce restrictions or towing.

Can I take a bus to The House?

Yes, for an early visit. The Downtown Transfer Plaza near Fifth Street and Lincoln Avenue is within a short walk. Adult fixed-route fare is currently $1.25 one way. However, service finishes long before The House’s 2 a.m. closing time, and Saturday service ends particularly early. A rideshare, taxi, designated driver, or prearranged pickup is necessary for most late-night visits.

Is The House wheelchair accessible?

A 2021 renovation was registered for architectural-barriers review, but the available record does not provide enough detail to promise a step-free entrance, accessible restroom, designated wheelchair position, or specific parking accommodation. The venue has no published accessibility guide. Anyone requiring precise clearances, seating removal, service-animal accommodation, or other assistance should verify those arrangements before the event.

Does The House have pool tables and other games?

Yes. Recent descriptions repeatedly mention pool and foosball, along with tabletop games and televised sports. These activities support the venue’s relaxed early-evening personality and offer an alternative to dancing. Game availability may be affected by private events or furniture changes, and popular tables can attract a wait on busy nights.

What should I wear?

No formal dress code has been published. Smart casual or polished nightlife clothing should suit the modern lounge atmosphere, while comfortable shoes are sensible for standing, games, or dancing. Avoid clothing or accessories that could create a safety concern. A privately organized party may establish a theme or stricter standard, but ordinary service is not publicly presented as requiring formalwear.

Are children or guests under 21 allowed?

No clear universal age policy is publicly available. Because The House is fundamentally a late-night bar, visitors should not assume that minors will be admitted, particularly during DJ sets or alcohol-centered events. Community activities held earlier in the day may use different rules. Adults purchasing or consuming alcohol should carry valid government-issued photo identification and expect age verification at entry or service.

How early should I arrive for an event?

For an ordinary drink, arriving before 8 p.m. should provide a calmer room and a better choice of tables. For Saturday DJs, karaoke, First Friday, or a talent showcase, arrive 30 to 60 minutes before the promoted activity. The venue is compact, has no published reserved-seating system, and can transition quickly from lounge seating to a busier standing-room atmosphere.

Is The House suitable for a quiet date?

It can be, provided you go early. The modern interior, cocktails, tables, pool, and foosball work well for a casual date before the late crowd arrives. After a DJ begins or a promoted event fills the room, conversation may become difficult. Visitor accounts specifically describe both a relaxed sit-down side and a louder nightclub side to the experience.

What is the closest major hotel?

The Odessa Marriott Hotel & Conference Center on East Fifth Street is the closest major lodging option and is within a short walk through downtown. Staying there reduces the need to park near the bar and provides an easy return after an evening visit. Guests should still remain aware of street activity and use a rideshare if weather, mobility, or late-night conditions make walking uncomfortable.

Does The House have professional concert production equipment?

The venue clearly supports amplified DJs, karaoke, live talent, televisions, and atmospheric lighting, but no sound-system brands, mixing-console specifications, microphone inventory, lighting plot, stage size, loading access, dressing rooms, or electrical details have been released. Performers and private-event organizers should therefore treat production capabilities as event-specific rather than assume the equipment found in a dedicated touring venue.
