Events and Programming

JaJa PDX does not follow a conventional concert-hall calendar. Its programming combines circus and aerial performance, juggling, flow arts, electronic and live music, visual art, film, workshops, maker culture and community gatherings. Weekly activity has included Tuesday juggling from roughly 7 to 10 p.m. and Wednesday flow or open-jam programming that can continue until midnight. The Wednesday PolyJAMorous project, founded in 2021, invites musicians of different backgrounds and skill levels to join an evolving open band.

The documented 2021–2022 period established this participatory identity. Alongside the weekly jam, the venue presented all-ages local rock, hip-hop, electronic and alternative bills, audiovisual warehouse events and the return of the Northwest Burnout gathering. The latter used indoor and outdoor areas for music, installations, theme camps and separate all-ages and adult sections.

Programming broadened during 2023 and 2024. Representative events included an underground electronic production using a full Danley sound rig; ReVision Gathering’s combination of music, visual art and collaboration; a psychedelic arts conference; seasonal equinox gatherings; the Portland Juggling Festival; an international bass-music bill; Holi celebrations; and Ostara, a two-day spring festival featuring Yaima, Family Mystic, The Muddy Souls, Drumspyder and other performers.

Recent programming in 2025 and 2026 confirms that JaJa remains unusually eclectic. Events have included the free Down to Clown circus celebration, the Portland Synth and Pedal Expo, skateboard art and music exhibitions, an Argentine cultural festival, an immersive cyberpunk party, Northwest Decompression, circus talent showcases, puppet theater, a protest-health and independent-publishing microfestival, fundraisers with fire and LED performance, and a special Winter Light Festival flow jam.

Typical admission ranges from free or suggested donation to approximately $20–$25 for smaller performances and dance events. Larger themed fundraisers and holiday productions have used roughly $20–$50 tiers, while the synth expo charged approximately $5–$20 with free admission for visitors under 18. No publicly documented 2027 season had been announced by August 23, 2026; however, weekly community programming and fall 2026 private bookings indicate continued operation.

Independent producers generally manage admission for their own events, so prices, refund rules, age limits and door sales vary. About JaJa PDX

JaJa PDX is an active multidisciplinary arts complex at 819 SE Taylor Street in Portland’s Central Eastside. The organization describes a 20,000-square-foot warehouse containing performance space, JaJa Circus School, ceramic and woodworking facilities, screen printing, music activity, healing space and artist studios. It is better understood as a working creative ecosystem than as a conventional nightclub.

Founder Mariano Di Yorio moved to Portland in 2020 after working with Cirque du Soleil and co-founding a social circus school in Buenos Aires. The JaJa concept developed through pandemic-era collaboration, and the new warehouse was publicly introduced in spring 2022. The building had previously housed Green Depot for about 20 years and was transformed to accommodate a 4,000-square-foot performance area, maker shops and more than 30 occupied artist studios.

Getting There and Parking

JaJa PDX is at 819 SE Taylor Street, between Southeast 8th and 9th avenues. Portland Streetcar’s A and B Loops stop near Southeast Grand and Taylor and Southeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Taylor, leaving a walk of only a few blocks. TriMet Line 6 also serves Southeast Grand and Taylor.

A roughly 6,000-square-foot lot adjoins the venue, but availability is event-dependent. It may be reserved for production vehicles, vendors, accessible arrivals or outdoor programming rather than general parking. Nearby street parking is limited, and the metered Central Eastside core between Grand and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard charges about $2.20 per hour from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday. For rideshare, use Southeast Taylor Street but avoid stopping across garage doors, exits or active loading areas. On large festival nights, arranging pickup on Grand, Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard or another nearby through street may reduce congestion. Cyclists should bring a strong lock and avoid attaching bikes to exit hardware or production fencing.

Inside the Venue

Expect an industrial, artist-built environment rather than a polished theater lobby. The atmosphere changes dramatically between events: one night may feature mats, aerial equipment and informal community practice; another may have a stage, projection, vendors, gallery rooms, fire performers and outdoor lounges. Large garage-style openings, high ceilings, local art and the visible presence of working studios give the building its character.

No permanent concert production specification is published. Organizers regularly bring event-specific systems: past productions have used a full Danley rig, a paraflex sound installation, video projection and full festival PA. The Warehouse’s private-event inventory includes a JBL system with stands, wireless microphones, a projector, 13 color-changing uplights and disco and laser effects. These items should not be assumed at every public show.

Food and drink also depend on the event. Some productions install bars, coffee counters, craft booths and food vendors, while others have no concessions. Hawthorne Asylum’s food carts are a short walk northeast, while Clarklewis offers a more formal meal near Southeast Water Avenue and Taylor Street.

Hotel selection is broader across the river downtown and north near the Oregon Convention Center. Streetcar service makes those districts practical for visitors who do not want to drive. Portland has fewer dependable late-night kitchens than many large cities, so eat before doors if the event does not explicitly advertise food.

Producers establish their own rules: documented events have ranged from all-ages festivals to 21-plus nights with no re-entry, masking requirements, themed costumes and permission to bring LED flow props. The Warehouse is ground-level and confirms an ADA restroom, but JaJa has not published a comprehensive accessibility guide for every room and event configuration.
