India’s most significant pure hard rock and heavy metal festival makes an epic return, Ultra Music Festival unleashes Road to Ultra India with two shows in Mumbai and Bengaluru, Boiler Room announces four shows across the country, the Backstreet Boys make their long-awaited return, and more! As we continue to highlight music festivals in Paris, Mexico, Buenos Aires, Europe, and South America, here is a list of upcoming music festivals and gigs slated for April and May in India –
Bangalore Open Air (April 1)
Bangalore Open Air issues an epic rallying cry to all metal heads and hard rock fans in India to converge on April 1, 2023, at the Royal Orchid Resort & Convention. Returning after its last edition in 2019, the headbangers hive will host legendary Dutch death metal crew Pestilence, Kerala-based thrash metal trio Amorphia, Norwegian black metal band Mayhem, thrash-laced powerhouse Godless, American progressive metalcore Born of Osiris and local crew from Bengaluru heavy metal band Kryptos.
The organizers have also announced that tickets purchased for the canceled 2020 edition will be accepted for this year’s concert. (No, this is not an April Fools Day gag!)

Road To Ultra – India (April 14-15)
Following the comeback of some outstanding music festivals in India, fans of electronic music and its subgenres can now look ahead to Ultra Music Festival’s Road To Ultra, set to take place on April 14 in Bengaluru and April 15 in Mumbai! Headliners announced include Dutch music producer Afrojack, UK’s James Hype, and electro house DJ/musician KSHMR.
Netherlands-based electronic acts Cesqeaux, Chico Rose, resident at Ultra Music Festival DJ/Producer MYKRIS, dance music savant Teri Miko, and EDM artist Siana Catherine join the line-up as supporting acts at Road To Ultra. Teri Miko was recently spotted barraging stages in the Indian cities of Kolkata, Bhopal, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kochi, as well as performing a series of Holi festival-themed events.

James Hype (April 13 and 16)
Announced on March 21, 2023, English DJ/producer James Hype will perform his high-energy sets spewing out mixes of disco, R&B, and hip-hop in Pune and Hyderabad. Hype will hit the stage in Pune on April 13 at one of the most cutting-edge venues, Drome Arena, and in Hyderabad on April 16 at Odeum By Prism. Hype’s Road to Ultra India tour, as well as his two solo shows, will be his first visit to India.
Jame Hype’s most popular produced mix ‘Ferrari’ (featuring Miggy Dela Rosa) is sampled from P. Diddy’s hip-hop/RnB single ‘I Need A Girl Pt 2‘ (2002).
Boiler Room Summer Tour (April 2023)
The Boiler Room’s most hallowed and renowned setup will return to India as part of its India Summer Tour in April 2023, visiting Chandigarh, Delhi, Kolkata, and Indore. With no line-up revealed at the time of writing, the comments section has turned into a rumor mill, with fans hoping to see British record producer, singer, and songwriter Fred Again.. behind the turntables. Boiler Room takes over Chandigarh on April 1, New Delhi on April 21, Kolkata on April 22, and Indore on April 23, 2023.
Boiler Room’s most recent South Asian Tour (February 2023) delivered stellar shows in Bengaluru, Goa, and Pune, featuring the legend of the drum & bass scene in India – DJ Uri, Hanumankind, DJ Anushka, and duo MadStarBase!

Musicathon 10.0 (April 7-8)
Musicathon 10, a music festival in the mountains, will stem from the forest of Bir, Himachal Pradesh. This two-day event, which will take place on April 7 and 8, slides into its tenth edition. It will gather a range of music genres, spoken word artists, and comedians showcasing talent from across the country coupled with tent sites, local business displays, and food vendors. This year’s line-up brags Indian classical and alternative rock outfit Swastik, musician Khalid Ahamed, singer-songwriter Rahgir, Hindustani classical vocalist Akanksha Grover, and more!
Musicathon has amassed over 2000 attendees in its tenure. Local residents, independent musicians, and ardent music enthusiasts all contribute to making this festival possible. Performances take place in the early evenings from 4 PM onwards. Attendees are asked to make a pledge to respect local traditions and culture and to exercise greater environmental awareness while at the event.

Solee India Tour (April 28-30)
German DJ Solee (Normen Flaskamp) takes his melodic techno, deep house, and tech-house exploits to India for the first time, spanning three shows. Solee’s gigs in Delhi (April 28), Goa (April 29), and Hyderabad (April 30) have been listed thus far, with pricing and ticketing details still pending.
Solee founded his own electronic music record label Future Romance in 2021 after driving Parquet Recordings for over a decade.

Backstreet Boys: DNA World Tour (May 4th and 5th)
On February 21, 2023, a social media post depicting a silhouette of five shadows sent fans of Backstreet Boys in India into a frenzy and hauled them back to the late 1990s. With lyrical puns in a free flow and references to their classic singles ‘Quit Playing Games With My Heart‘ and ‘Everybody,’ it’s readily apparent that fans are overjoyed with this booking.
Backstreet Boys make two stops in India as part of their DNA World Tour on May 4 at the Jio Gardens in Mumbai and May 5 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi.
Boris Brejcha (May 5 and 6)
German minimal techno-wizard Boris Brecja is slated to tour India in May, and his fans are ecstatic! The Joker summons his devotees to the NSCI Dome in Mumbai on May 5 and Bhartiya City Bangalore on May 6, marking his return to India after a seven-years!

Off Grid (May 20 and 21)
Off Grid, the second festival on our list from Himachal Pradesh will take place over two days between May 20 and 21 in Neeralaya, Kullu. Returning for a second time, Off Grid is a young boutique music festival that caters to a limited crowd by interweaving nature, art, and local culture alongside music.
Thus far, the phase one line-up lashes out New Delhi-based electronic music producers and regular collaborators Jay Pei and VRIDIAN, Moscow-born/Goa-based EDM artist Moscada, and techno maestro Midnight Traffic.
