After enlisting the likes of singers Riya Duggal and Lothika Jha on previous musical endeavors, Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Yohan Marshall taps in Mali on ‘Just For Once.’
Following ‘Jo Tu Mere Paas Hai,’ seasoned musician Yohan Marshall casts out his second release of 2024. ‘Just For Once’ is a song about overcoming hardships, shattering limitations, and always striving to achieve your dreams. On this project, Marshall enrolled the vocal prowess of pop artist Mali, whose recent music releases ‘Semi Automatic Butane’ and the Tamil-worded ‘Anniku Raathiri’ have both been well received.
‘Just For Once’ unfurls with Mali’s honeyed vocals caressing benign key rhythms as Yohan’s voice shines over plucky string segments. A spirited score soon ensues, with guitars, drums, and uplifting lyrics enlivened harmoniously by both artists. Their soulful vocals are layered over a cinematic composition that deftly blends orchestral sections with acoustic themes.
“Down from the ashes, you will rise up again, And when your walls are caving in, Who are you, When it’s giving you all you can take!” passionately cries Yohan on the tune, reiterating the belief that anything is possible if you never give up.
Produced by Yohan Marshall with Prathamesh Dudhane on mixing and mastering duties, ‘Just For Once’ was released on May 10 and has amassed nearly five thousand views as of the time of writing. Its music video, directed and edited by filmmaker Samiran Sonowal, premiered a week later. It was released entirely in a 9:16 vertical camera setup and has generated over ten thousand views thus far.
