Hole In The Wall

Austin

Events and Programming

2513 San Antonio St is best understood as the rear entrance and annex of Hole in the Wall, the long-running music venue whose principal public address is 2538 Guadalupe Street. The San Antonio Street side has operated under several names, including Amity’s Coffee & Karaoke and, in 2026, Calamity at Hole in the Wall. It now functions as a flexible coffee bar, karaoke room, food space and small-event venue connected to the larger live-music operation.

The broader venue complex books music almost every night, with programming that moves between singer-songwriters, Americana, cosmic country, indie rock, punk, garage rock, metal, hip-hop, DJ nights, comedy, drag, trivia and community gatherings. The main room’s recent listings have included local bills, touring acts, album-release shows, residencies, benefit concerts, song swaps and early happy-hour performances rather than a single narrowly defined genre.

Recent programming from 2021 through 2026 shows the venue’s unusually broad range. The 2022 calendar included residencies, holiday benefits, rap and spoken-word events, punk and alternative bills, album releases, songwriters and New Year’s Eve shows. In 2023, listings included R.A.P. Ferreira, guitar ensembles, indie-rock bills, hardcore-leaning acts, singer-songwriters and recurring happy-hour performances. The 2024 and 2025 period added more benefit events, open-mic activity, acoustic sets, comedy and annex programming.

In 2025, the rear space was used for karaoke, early singer-songwriter performances, a free musical-comedy event and daytime coffee service. The format is deliberately informal: guests may come for a show, a burger, karaoke, a drink or a community gathering without treating the annex like a conventional concert hall. The 2026 calendar has continued that approach with events such as creative meetups, trivia, drag, comedy, live music and karaoke alongside the main venue’s regular concert schedule.

Examples of 2026 programming across the connected venue include CAPYAC, The Silos, SKRATZ, Tuskola, The Bomb Pulse, Social Dissonance, Nite Walk, local songwriter bills, Loteria and free or low-cost early shows. The exact schedule changes frequently, but the pattern is consistent: emerging Austin artists, small touring acts, themed nights and genre-crossing bills. Planned programming under the new ownership is expected to place greater emphasis on touring acts, punk, drag, comedy and social events while continuing to support local bands.

Pricing is generally modest for a venue of this historical importance. Published listings show many free or no-cover events, while paid shows have commonly appeared around $10 to $16, with prices varying according to the artist, promoter and event format. Larger or specially promoted shows may cost more. Tickets are usually general admission, and some events are simply paid at the door or listed as free.

Tickets and Booking

For a ticketed concert, use the event listing associated with the specific show and check whether admission is advance-sale, door-sale, free, or a combination of the two. Because the venue presents multiple events in one night, the entry time for the early performance may differ from the door time for the late concert. Karaoke and casual annex events often do not require advance tickets.

Popular local showcases, album releases and special benefit nights can fill the small rooms quickly. The safest strategy is to buy in advance when a show is listed as ticketed, arrive before the advertised start time and avoid assuming that a free event guarantees immediate entry. For no-cover nights, arriving early is especially useful if you want a clear view near the front window or middle stage.

There is no published permanent seating chart, VIP map or conventional box-office schedule for 2513 San Antonio St. The annex is a bar and event room rather than a reserved-seat theater. Any reserved seating, guest-list arrangements, age limits or door procedures are likely to be event-specific and should be checked in the individual listing before travel.

Artists and promoters have historically used the venue for local bills and touring acts with an established Austin audience. Older booking guidance emphasized Austin-based performers, touring musicians with meaningful local draw and a broad acceptance of musical styles. The venue’s 2026 ownership transition is expected to expand touring and non-music programming while preserving its role as a proving ground for emerging talent.

About 2513 San Antonio St

The address sits in West Campus, immediately west of the University of Texas at Austin and close to Guadalupe Street, locally known as the Drag. It is not a standalone auditorium. It is the rear portion of the Hole in the Wall property, reached from San Antonio Street or through the main Guadalupe Street venue. Recent listings describe it as the back space of Hole in the Wall, while 2026 event notices identify it as Calamity at Hole in the Wall, formerly Amity’s.

Hole in the Wall opened on June 15, 1974, when Billie Cugini and her son Doug converted a former dry-cleaner storefront into a casual bar and restaurant. Music was not the original business plan, but local musicians quickly made the venue a gathering place, and Nancy Griffith’s early performances helped inspire the creation of the front-stage area.

The venue became associated with Townes Van Zandt, Blaze Foley, Doug Sahm, Nanci Griffith, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Lucinda Williams, Shawn Colvin, the Texas Tornados, Emmylou Harris and many other artists. Later generations of Austin acts, including Spoon, Fastball, Shakey Graves, Timbuk3, Bob Schneider, Black Joe Lewis and Gary Clark Jr., are part of the venue’s reputation as an incubator for artists before wider recognition.

The main club briefly closed from July 2002 until May 2003 and again faced serious closure pressure in 2015 as West Campus property values and rents rose. In 2023, the city’s Iconic Venue Fund helped secure a long-term lease and provided approximately $1.6 million in support for lease stabilization and improvements. The arrangement was intended to protect the venue for roughly two decades and fund improvements to the middle-stage area and rear building.

That investment led to a more substantial rear-space buildout. A 2025 project description identifies additional venue space for shows, karaoke and events, along with updated air conditioning and modernized bathrooms. The back room’s subsequent coffee-bar and karaoke identity gives 2513 San Antonio St a different daytime and nighttime character from the main concert room.

Seating and Layout

The main Hole in the Wall is a compact, two-stage dive-bar venue. The front window stage is associated with intimate performances and early Austin musicians, while a larger middle stage handles many of the current concert bills. The connected rear annex at 2513 San Antonio St is more lounge-like, with bar seating, casual tables and flexible space for karaoke, small gatherings and community events.

Published capacity figures are not fully consistent. A Texas historical reference describes the club as holding around 200 people or fewer, an event listing describes the collective two-stage venue as holding a couple hundred, and a concert directory lists a capacity of 300. No official capacity or separate occupancy figure for the 2513 annex has been published. Treat the rooms as small, intimate spaces rather than assuming that the largest figure applies to every configuration.

Most concerts are general admission. At the main venue, the best sightlines are usually close to the stage, especially at the front window, while the middle of the room gives a more balanced view and sound perspective. In the annex, the most comfortable position depends on whether the room is configured for karaoke, food service, a community event or a small performance. There is no published VIP section, balcony or tiered theater seating.

The compact layout keeps performers close to the audience, but sightlines can be affected by bar traffic, pillars, furniture or a busy crowd. For seated or mobility-sensitive guests, the exact arrangement may change from event to event. Contacting the event organizer before buying is advisable if a particular viewing position is essential.

Getting There and Parking

2513 San Antonio Street is in the West Campus area of Austin, near West 25th and West 26th streets and roughly two blocks west of Guadalupe. The main Hole in the Wall entrance is on Guadalupe; the San Antonio Street address is the rear or annex entrance. Allow extra time to identify the correct door, especially when a ticket lists the main venue but gives the San Antonio Street address for entry.

The closest substantial parking option is the University of Texas San Antonio Garage at 2420 San Antonio Street. It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, offers visitor parking on a space-available basis and has a published height restriction of 7 feet 2 inches. UT visitor garages charge by duration, and rates can change during special events.

Street parking is available in the surrounding West Campus area, but restrictions, meters, residential controls and event conditions vary by block. Do not assume that a nearby university space is free or open to visitors. UT states that there is no general free visitor parking on main campus and that posted signs control parking restrictions.

CapMetro buses serve Guadalupe Street near the venue. Stops around Guadalupe and 27th Street are within a short walk, with routes including the frequent 1, 3 and 30 services in current schedules. Because routes and stop arrangements can change, use the transit agency’s trip planner on the day of the event and check service alerts before leaving.

Rideshare users should choose the entrance named in the event listing and avoid blocking the narrow rear access area. A drop-off on San Antonio Street can be convenient for the annex, while Guadalupe is the clearer landmark for the main Hole in the Wall entrance. Walking from the nearby UT garages or Guadalupe bus stops is generally straightforward, but the campus-area sidewalks can be busy at night.

Inside the Venue

Expect a casual, lived-in Austin bar atmosphere rather than a polished concert hall. The main venue is known for sports memorabilia, beer signs, drawings, bar seating, pool tables, games, a jukebox and walls that display decades of accumulated music history. The annex has a more flexible coffeehouse and karaoke identity, with daytime seating that transitions into a late-night social space.

Calamity combines coffee, a bar, karaoke and event space. In January 2026, Badd Burgers announced that it had taken over the kitchen, offering meat and plant-based versions of its burger menu from the 2513 San Antonio Street location. Published operating information described food service from Tuesday through Saturday around midday to midnight, while Calamity’s broader hours were listed as daytime through late night depending on the day.

The main venue’s published hours are 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily, and live music is presented throughout the week. Some shows begin in the early evening, followed by a later headliner, DJ set or dance-oriented event. The annex may open earlier for coffee, food or community programming, but hours can differ by event.

No authoritative public specification lists the brands or models of the sound system, mixing console, lighting fixtures, stage monitors or backline equipment. The middle stage has been described as the more professionally equipped performance area, and recent visitor comments have praised the sound as clear and powerful, although another concertgoer reported excessive bass at one show. Production expectations should therefore be confirmed with the promoter for technically demanding performances.

There is no published coat-check, formal merchandise department, bag policy, photography policy or venue-wide Wi-Fi specification. Merchandise, recording rules, bag screening and door procedures may be set by the individual performer or promoter. The main club is commonly listed as 21 and over, while the rear coffee space has been described as all ages during daytime operation and 21 and over for nighttime karaoke.

Nearby Amenities

The venue is surrounded by the restaurants, coffee shops, bars, apartments and student-oriented businesses of West Campus. Guadalupe Street and the blocks around West 25th and West 26th offer quick pre-show food, late-night snacks and casual drinks. The area is better suited to informal dining than to a long, reservation-based meal, particularly when an event begins soon after dinner.

The Moxy Austin University hotel is close to the venue, and downtown Austin is a short rideshare trip away. Nearby UT campus destinations include the Cactus Cafe, campus museums, bookstores and university buildings. For late-night travel, plan a rideshare or check the final CapMetro departure in advance; bus frequency may be reduced after the evening’s main concert period.

What Makes This Venue Special

The address matters because it is part of a rare Austin music institution that has survived repeated redevelopment pressure without becoming a conventional entertainment complex. The main building’s front-window stage, middle room and rear annex preserve several different scales of performance in one small property. That allows a new singer-songwriter, a touring punk band, a comedy act and a karaoke crowd to occupy the same ecosystem.

The exterior and surrounding walls also carry Austin music lore. A Bob Dylan portrait is associated with the venue, while local mural artist Federico Archuleta created a prominent Dylan image on the building. Inside, the accumulated memorabilia and hand-made decoration make the space feel more like a neighborhood clubhouse than a purpose-built theater.

Its cultural impact is also measurable. In 2023, reporting described more than 1,000 live-music performances a year, while city-backed preservation work recognized the club as an important cultural and economic asset. The venue creates performance opportunities for local musicians, supports bar and food jobs, attracts visitors to the Drag and gives UT students an unusually direct introduction to Austin’s live-music culture.

The 2026 ownership change marks another chapter. New owners Mike Lavigne and Courtney Goforth have said they want to preserve the venue’s atmosphere while adding more touring artists, punk, drag, comedy and social programming. They have also discussed a more permanent restaurant with breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night service, although the final concept and opening details were not yet published.

Visitor Tips and Information

Arrive 30 to 45 minutes before a ticketed concert if you want time to park, locate the correct entrance and settle into a good position. For free shows, early arrival is even more useful. Check whether your event is at the main Guadalupe entrance, the 2513 San Antonio Street annex or both. The two addresses are connected, but they do not necessarily use the same door or room.

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes suitable for standing. There is no published dress code. Bring a government-issued ID for nighttime bar or concert access, especially because many main-room events are 21 and over. Avoid bringing large bags or prohibited items unless the event listing specifically permits them; the venue does not publish a single comprehensive policy for every event.

Accessibility information is limited. Public sources do not provide a verified floor plan, step-free route, accessible seating map, restroom measurements or formal ADA statement for the 2513 annex. Because the San Antonio Street entrance is a rear access point and layouts change, guests who need step-free entry, accessible seating, a specific restroom arrangement or assistance with the route should confirm those details with the event organizer before purchasing.

For the best chance of hearing the show clearly, avoid standing directly beside the bar or speakers. The venue is intimate, so sound levels can feel strong near the stage. If you prefer a quieter experience, an early set, a weekday happy-hour performance or the rear annex may be more comfortable than a late weekend headliner.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is located at 2513 San Antonio St in Austin?

2513 San Antonio St is the rear annex of Hole in the Wall, whose main entrance is at 2538 Guadalupe Street. The space has operated as Amity’s Coffee & Karaoke and is identified in 2026 event notices as Calamity at Hole in the Wall. It combines coffee, food, a bar, karaoke and flexible event space rather than functioning as a separate large concert hall.

Is 2513 San Antonio St the same as Hole in the Wall?

It is part of the same connected venue complex, but the addresses identify different entrances and spaces. Hole in the Wall’s principal address is 2538 Guadalupe Street, while 2513 San Antonio Street identifies the rear annex. A ticket may use one address even when the event is connected to the broader Hole in the Wall operation, so check the stated entrance carefully.

What kind of events are held there?

Programming includes live music, karaoke, coffeehouse performances, comedy, trivia, drag, community gatherings and private or promotional events. The connected main venue presents singer-songwriters, country, Americana, indie rock, punk, alternative, metal, hip-hop and touring acts. The annex is more casual and flexible, while the main room is the primary location for larger concert bills.

Are events at 2513 San Antonio St usually ticketed?

Not always. Some concerts require advance tickets or a door charge, while many early performances, happy-hour sets and community events are free or listed as no cover. Karaoke and casual bar programming may not require admission. Pricing and entry rules vary by event, so do not assume that every show at the address uses the same ticket system.

How much do tickets usually cost?

Published recent listings show a broad range from free or no-cover events to paid shows around $10 to $16. Special events, touring artists, benefits and multi-act bills may cost more. The venue’s small rooms make advance purchase sensible for popular local showcases, but some events sell admission at the door or remain free until capacity is reached.

Is there reserved seating?

There is no published reserved-seat map for the annex or the connected main venue. Most music events are general admission, with guests standing near the performance area and using available bar or table seating. Furniture may be moved for karaoke, comedy or community events. Guests who need a particular seat or viewing location should ask the event organizer before arrival.

What is the capacity of the venue?

Published figures vary. Historical information describes the main club as holding around 200 people or fewer, another listing describes a couple hundred across the two stages, and a concert directory lists 300. No separate capacity for the 2513 annex has been published. The practical experience is that of a small, intimate bar venue rather than a large theater or arena.

Is 2513 San Antonio St all ages?

The rear coffee space has been described as all ages during daytime operation and 21 and over for nighttime karaoke. The main Hole in the Wall is commonly listed as 21 and over. Individual performances can have different rules, particularly for comedy, community events or daytime programming. Bring identification and check the specific event conditions before traveling.

Where is the best entrance?

Use the entrance named in your event listing. The 2513 San Antonio Street door is the direct rear-annex entrance, while 2538 Guadalupe Street is the main Hole in the Wall entrance. If you arrive at one side and cannot find the event, ask staff rather than assuming the show has moved. The connected spaces may host different activities on the same night.

Is parking available at the venue?

There is no clearly documented dedicated visitor lot for the 2513 annex. Nearby options include street parking where legally permitted and the University of Texas San Antonio Garage at 2420 San Antonio Street. UT visitor garages operate around the clock and charge by duration. Availability and rates can change during campus events, so arrive early and read every sign.

How close is public transportation?

CapMetro bus stops on Guadalupe near 27th Street are within walking distance, with current service including routes 1, 3 and 30 in the surrounding corridor. Routes and stop locations can change, and late-night service may be less frequent. Use the transit planner for the exact event date and allow extra time for a walk through the busy UT West Campus area.

Does the venue have food?

The 2513 annex has hosted several food concepts. In 2026, Badd Burgers announced a kitchen offering both meat and plant-based burgers from the address, with published service generally running Tuesday through Saturday from midday into the evening. Food availability can change with operating hours or events. Guests should not assume that every concert includes a full kitchen service.

Can I get coffee there?

Yes, the rear space has been operated as a coffee bar during daytime hours. The annex’s coffeehouse identity is part of what distinguishes 2513 San Antonio Street from the darker, late-night main club. Daytime hours can differ from nighttime karaoke and concert hours, so check the operating schedule if you are visiting specifically for coffee rather than an event.

Does the venue offer karaoke?

Karaoke is one of the signature uses of the rear annex. Earlier listings described karaoke on multiple nights each week, and 2026 notices continue to identify the space as a coffee bar and karaoke venue. The room may also host concerts, trivia, comedy or private gatherings, so the karaoke schedule can change around special programming.

Is there an official sound or lighting specification?

No public technical rider lists the brands or models of the sound system, mixing console, monitors, lighting fixtures or backline. The middle stage is described as the more professionally equipped performance area, and visitor comments generally report strong sound, though one review noted excessive bass at a particular show. Touring performers should confirm production details directly with the promoter.

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

Publicly available information does not provide a complete, venue-specific accessibility plan for the 2513 annex. There is no published floor plan confirming the step-free route, accessible seating, restroom dimensions or door widths. Because the annex uses a rear entrance and event layouts vary, guests needing accessible entry or seating should confirm the arrangements before purchasing tickets.

Does the venue have a coat check?

No authoritative public listing confirms a coat check at 2513 San Antonio Street or the connected main venue. The spaces are compact, and guests should avoid arriving with bulky outerwear or large bags when possible. Storage arrangements may change for individual events, but visitors should plan as though they will need to keep personal belongings with them.

What should I bring to a show?

Bring a valid photo ID, your ticket confirmation if the event is ticketed, a charged phone and a payment method. Comfortable shoes are useful because many shows are standing-room events. Avoid large bags, outside food and drinks, or recording equipment unless the event specifically allows them. Check the event details for age limits, door times and special instructions before leaving.

Why is Hole in the Wall culturally important?

The venue opened in 1974 and became a long-running stage for Austin musicians, including Townes Van Zandt, Blaze Foley, Nanci Griffith, Doug Sahm, Spoon, Fastball, Shakey Graves and Gary Clark Jr. Its survival through closures, rent pressure and redevelopment threats led Austin to support it through the Iconic Venue Fund, recognizing its role as both a music incubator and a community business.
