Events and Programming

160 N 12th St is not a conventional concert hall with one stage and one calendar. It is the home of CODA Williamsburg, a 64-room boutique hotel whose event settings include MEILI Rooftop, the MEILI restaurant, CODA Beach Club, private meeting rooms and penthouse spaces. Programming changes with the season and may be ticketed, reservation-only, privately booked or open to walk-ins.

Recent programming shows a strong preference for social nightlife rather than seated theater. Expect rooftop parties, house and electronic DJs, live jazz, drag brunch, holiday celebrations, album-release gatherings, food pop-ups, professional mixers, sports screenings, pool sessions and private brand or corporate events. The rooftop is also used for dinners, cocktails and smaller celebrations when no public event is scheduled.

Publicly documented events from 2021 through 2023 trace the address’s transition from the former McCarren Hotel into CODA. The Talk Story rooftop concept continued the site’s tradition of heated, all-season cocktails and private events. In 2022, the newly launched Creatures of All Kind hosted Pride-weekend dancing, free rooftop sets, a live album-release party, deep-house showcases and Halloween programming. Downstairs, Bohemia presented club nights ranging from international house DJs to funk, soul, disco, new wave and vinyl-focused parties.

Programming in 2024 and 2025 continued that mix. Records include multi-DJ happy-hour pop-ups in the downstairs lounge, Independence Day rooftop parties, pool gatherings, food collaborations and Halloween costume events. MEILI arrived in 2025 as the current Sichuan restaurant and rooftop identity, shifting part of the emphasis toward chef-led dining, cocktails, conversation and private celebrations while preserving occasional large social events.

In 2026, advertised programming has included recurring Sunday jazz, a third-Sunday drag brunch, social mixers, all-day World Cup screenings and CODA Beach Club sessions with curated daytime music. The Beach Club’s published concept also describes international DJ soundscapes, sunset cocktails and candlelit evening jazz. No dependable public schedule for 2027 or later had been announced by August 23, 2026, although the property continues to accept private-event bookings.

Ordinary club and community events have historically ranged from free RSVP admission to approximately $10–$25. Major holiday rooftops, drink-inclusive packages and premium viewing events can run roughly $40–$175 or more. Seasonal pool access is a separate product: 2026 prices commonly began around $75–$95, with reserved beds, sofas and cabanas costing considerably more. These figures are useful planning ranges, not permanent prices.

Tickets and Booking

Buy admission only through the event organizer’s authorized checkout or CODA’s official event and reservation channels. Because different promoters use the building, there is no single box office covering every rooftop party, brunch, pool session and private production. Check whether your booking is for the restaurant, rooftop, pool or hotel; reservations for one area do not automatically include entry to another.

Popular summer Saturdays, holiday weekends and Halloween events may use timed entry, multiple price tiers, table minimums or bottle-service packages. Book those early and read the inclusions carefully. A restaurant reservation may provide only a table, while an event ticket may cover admission but not seating. Pool passes also do not necessarily guarantee a chair; reserved daybeds and cabanas are distinct products. Recent visitors have specifically advised reserving pool seating in advance.

Free events can still require advance registration and may reach capacity. Arrive before the headline DJ or performance if admission is first-come, first-served. For restaurant visits, the property currently recommends booking several days ahead, especially when guests want to dine downstairs before moving to the rooftop. Door sales, refunds, transfers, presales and re-entry are event-specific rather than universal venue policies.

About 160 N 12th St

The address stands on North 12th Street between Bedford and Berry avenues, directly opposite McCarren Park. The property combines hotel accommodations with destination hospitality spaces rather than operating solely as a performance venue. Its strongest visual assets are the park outlook, Manhattan skyline views, seasonal outdoor pool and elevated rooftop lounge.

CODA identifies the rooftop’s current practical event capacity as up to 150. Published event specifications from the 2022 redevelopment describe approximately 13,630 square feet of designated venue space throughout the property. Those figures included a 4,355-square-foot Beach Club, a 1,700-square-foot restaurant and nightclub, a 2,248-square-foot rooftop, a 1,500-square-foot penthouse and two meeting areas.

The original hotel soft-opened in October 2011 as Hotel Williamsburg and became fully operational that fall. King & Grove took over management and purchased the 64-room property in March 2012 for approximately $33 million, then renamed it King & Grove Williamsburg. It subsequently traded as McCarren Hotel & Pool. The sale set a then-record Brooklyn price per hotel room and illustrated Williamsburg’s rapid transition into a major hospitality destination.

Food and beverage concepts changed repeatedly. Early plans referenced Pillar and Plough; later eras included chef Paul Liebrandt’s The Elm, Oleanders and the tropical Talk Story rooftop. A new ownership group acquired the property in 2016 for approximately $22 million. CODA Williamsburg officially opened on October 15, 2022 after a substantial repositioning, accompanied by Creatures of All Kind, Bohemia and the redesigned pool club. MEILI became the principal restaurant and rooftop concept in 2025.

Seating and Layout

This is primarily a flexible lounge and reception venue, not a room with permanent numbered seats. Rooftop layouts use sofas, curved banquettes, low tables, stools and open standing areas. The skyline edge is best for views and conversation, while central areas near the bar or DJ position become busier during parties. Early arrival offers the best chance of unreserved seating.

Detailed redevelopment specifications divided the 2,248-square-foot rooftop into a 1,720-square-foot main room for approximately 90 reception guests and a 528-square-foot terrace for about 30. A former Creatures of All Kind rental profile listed roughly 2,200 square feet and a 200-person standing buyout, but CODA’s current public guidance uses a more conservative 150-person rooftop capacity. Event format, furniture and operating approvals determine the actual limit.

The Beach Club centers on a 40-foot pool with a published in-water capacity of 40 and an overall deck-and-lounge capacity of 150. Its renovated arrangement uses reserved daybeds, VIP seating, loungers and tiered social areas. Former Bohemia specifications allowed approximately 60 seated or 150 standing, with a smaller VIP area for around 20 seated or 50 reception-style.

For a quieter rooftop experience, choose perimeter seating away from speakers, the bar line and elevator arrival point. For dancing, the open center is more convenient. Sightlines are largely horizontal because there is no raked seating or elevated audience platform. The retractable roof and enclosed section provide weather protection, although the most open skyline positions may be unavailable during rain, wind or private functions.

Architecture, Design and Production

The hotel was developed as part of a mixed-use block containing separate residential buildings connected by underground parking. Contemporary construction reports credited architect Gene Kaufman with the seven-story hotel structure; the current rooftop occupies the eighth-floor level. Balconies, large windows and the courtyard pool break up what is otherwise a compact urban footprint.

CODA’s 2022 redesign introduced a “Bali-meets-Brooklyn” identity. The company says it designed the interiors and manufactured the property’s furniture through its own facilities in Bali, Mexico and Los Angeles. Coastal colors, woven lighting, greenery, timber and low lounge furniture replaced the more conventional boutique-hotel look of earlier eras.

The 2026 Beach Club renovation moved toward a Mediterranean resort aesthetic using travertine, teak, tiered daybeds, curated planting, warm amber lighting and an open-air pergola bar. MEILI Rooftop combines indoor shelter with an outdoor patio, maroon accents, plants, woven fixtures and a retractable roof. The result is more intimate than a warehouse club and more adaptable than a completely exposed roof.

No current public technical rider for MEILI has been released. During the Creatures and Bohemia period, documented equipment included a VOID Acoustics system, Cyclone 55 and Venu 10 v2 loudspeakers, a QSC K12, two CDJ-3000 players, a DJM-900NXS2 mixer, programmable LED washes, moving heads and haze. Rooftop rental listings also cited microphones, projection, an LED wall, heating, air-conditioning and modular seating. Production managers should reconfirm every item because concepts and operating conditions have changed.

Sound management is a significant part of the venue’s history. Following neighborhood complaints, regulatory actions required a sound limiter, an acoustic study, sound-attenuation measures and a higher rooftop partition. A 2023 decision also restricted rooftop DJ use pending community approval. Later event advertising has again featured DJs, so permitted locations, roof position and volume controls should always be confirmed for each production.

Getting There and Parking

The closest subway is the Bedford Avenue L station at Bedford Avenue and North 7th Street, about a seven-minute walk. Exit toward Bedford Avenue, walk north five blocks to North 12th Street, then turn left. Bedford Avenue has elevators, but riders should check real-time elevator status before traveling. Nassau Avenue on the G is approximately eight minutes away; walk west on Nassau, continue alongside McCarren Park and turn onto North 12th Street.

The B32 stops on Kent Avenue near North 12th Street, while the B62 serves the Bedford Avenue corridor. The North Williamsburg ferry landing at North 6th Street and Kent Avenue is roughly a 15-minute walk. In the 2026 network, it is served by the East River A route connecting Wall Street, DUMBO, Hunters Point South and East 34th Street.

Rideshare passengers should use the North 12th Street hotel entrance and avoid waiting in the active travel lane. Traffic becomes slow around Wythe, Bedford and McCarren Park on summer evenings. For departure after a crowded event, walking one block toward Bedford or Berry before requesting a car can reduce conflicts at the entrance.

Street parking is limited and sign restrictions vary by block. CODA currently advises guests to use street parking or a garage partner. A convenient 24-hour valet garage is located nearby at 111 North 12th Street. Published drive-up rates have ranged from about $12 for one hour and $20 for three hours to $25–$30 for longer daytime stays, approximately $42 for posted events and $55 for 24 hours, with supplements for larger vehicles.

Inside the Venue

Entry normally begins in the hotel lobby, after which staff direct guests to the rooftop, restaurant, pool or private room. Ticketed nightlife may add ID checks, guest-list verification and bag inspection. Most parties and all pool sessions are 21+, although restaurant meals and specially advertised events may have different age rules. A recurring drag brunch, for example, has been advertised as 18+.

MEILI supplies the principal food program, serving modern Sichuan cooking under chef Peter He, along with dim sum, shareable plates and cocktails using Chinese and regional flavors. Poolside service is available during the seasonal Beach Club operation. Bars are built into the rooftop, restaurant and pool areas, but menus and service times differ.

Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, and recent visitors have reported usable poolside connectivity. Restrooms are available within the hospitality areas, while coat check, merchandise tables and dedicated photography stations depend on the event. The former Bohemia operation advertised coat check and integrated audiovisual facilities, but visitors should not assume those services accompany every current rooftop booking.

The atmosphere changes sharply by time of day. Pool sessions are resort-like and social; sunset brings cocktails and skyline photography; jazz and dinner nights are comparatively relaxed; and ticketed holidays or DJ events become crowded and loud. Recent reviews consistently praise the location, attentive pool service, design and cleanliness, while recurring criticisms mention compact rooms, occasional amenity closures, noise and the need to reserve pool seating early.

Nearby Amenities

Dining onsite is the simplest option, especially when a rooftop event begins shortly after dinner. Beyond the hotel, Bedford Avenue, Berry Street, Wythe Avenue and Greenpoint’s Manhattan Avenue contain dense clusters of restaurants, cafes and bars. Allow at least 90 minutes for a full pre-event meal on Friday or Saturday; waits can be substantial without a reservation.

CODA itself provides accommodations in the same building. Nearby alternatives include The William Vale one block west, plus the Wythe Hotel and Arlo Williamsburg farther south near Wythe Avenue. McCarren Park is directly across the street and is useful for meeting friends before doors, but alcohol from the venue cannot be carried into the park.

For late-night travel, the L train is usually the fastest route toward Manhattan. The G connects to Greenpoint, Long Island City and central Brooklyn. Ferry service generally ends earlier than subway service, so it should not be treated as the primary return option after a late club night.

Accessibility and Visitor Policies

CODA lists wheelchair access to public areas, and elevators serve the hotel and rooftop. Former rooftop event documentation described the space as ADA compliant. Accessible hotel rooms include at least 30 inches of clear space beside the bed, 32-inch bathroom doorways, lowered closet fittings, grab bars, 17-to-19-inch toilet heights, accessible sinks and roll-in showers with seats, handheld showerheads and reachable controls.

The venue does not publicly provide sufficiently detailed information about pool-entry equipment, accessible rooftop restroom measurements or assisted-listening systems. Guests requiring those features should verify arrangements before buying a nonrefundable ticket. Bedford Avenue is the most practical step-free subway choice, subject to elevator availability.

Smoking, cannabis use and vaping are prohibited inside the hotel, with a substantial cleaning charge for violations. Firearms are prohibited except where carried by law-enforcement officers. Only service dogs are allowed poolside; ordinary pets cannot enter the pool area. Pool guests must be at least 21.

No universal public bag-size policy has been published. Bring a compact bag and leave professional cameras, large equipment, outside drinks and unnecessary valuables at home unless the organizer explicitly permits them. Rooftop nightlife generally favors smart, fashionable or club-appropriate clothing, while daytime pool events require swimwear and footwear outside the water. Valid government-issued photo identification is essential for age-restricted events.

What Makes This Venue Special

Few Williamsburg addresses combine a chef-led restaurant, retractable-roof lounge, hotel, skyline terrace and full outdoor pool within such a compact building. The view is also distinctive: Manhattan appears to the west while McCarren Park opens the northern outlook, giving the roof more breathing room than many similarly low-rise Brooklyn terraces.

The venue’s history mirrors Williamsburg’s larger transformation. It began as an early full-service boutique hotel in a district once dominated by manufacturing, sold for a borough-record price and evolved through multiple generations of restaurants, pool clubs and nightlife concepts. Its events have brought visitors and spending to nearby businesses, supported hospitality work and helped establish North Williamsburg as a destination rather than simply a residential neighborhood.

That impact has not been without tension. Rooftop music, late-night crowds and noise generated community complaints and formal mitigation requirements. The current emphasis on enclosed or controllable spaces, sound limits, dining, jazz and curated social events reflects an effort to balance destination programming with the residential streets surrounding McCarren Park.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 160 N 12th St called CODA Williamsburg or MEILI?

CODA Williamsburg is the hotel occupying the address. MEILI is its current Sichuan restaurant and rooftop-bar concept, while CODA Beach Club is the seasonal pool operation. Event listings may therefore name CODA, MEILI Rooftop, MEILI restaurant or the Beach Club even though they all take place within the same property.

Is this a concert venue?

It is better described as a hotel-based nightlife and event complex. It has hosted live singers, jazz groups and DJs, but it has no permanent auditorium, fixed stage or numbered theater seating. Most public events use flexible restaurant, lounge, rooftop, nightclub or pool layouts, supplemented by private parties and corporate functions.

How many people does the rooftop hold?

CODA’s current public material describes the rooftop as suitable for up to 150 guests. Earlier rental documents listed different capacities, including 90 in the main room plus 30 on the terrace or up to 200 for a standing buyout. The approved total depends on furniture, weather, event format and current operating conditions.

Can I visit the rooftop without attending an event?

Yes, when MEILI Rooftop is operating normally and has not been bought out. A table reservation is advisable, especially around sunset and on weekends. Rooftop and downstairs restaurant reservations may be handled separately. Private events, bad weather or low-demand nights can alter hours, so do not assume the roof is available simply because the hotel is open.

Does the rooftop close when it rains?

The rooftop includes indoor space, heating and a retractable roof, allowing some operations to continue during rain or cooler weather. Severe wind, storms or production requirements can still close the outdoor patio or affect an event. Tickets should be checked for weather and cancellation terms because each organizer sets its own rain policy.

Is there assigned seating at events?

Most public events are general admission, with limited first-come lounge seating or separately reserved tables. Restaurant bookings provide a table, but ordinary party admission generally does not. Pool passes and reserved daybeds are also different products. If sitting is medically necessary, arrange accommodation with the venue before arrival rather than relying on open furniture.

What is the minimum age?

CODA Beach Club is strictly 21+, and most rooftop nightlife also requires guests to be 21 with valid photo identification. Some dining occasions and specially advertised programs use different limits; the recurring drag brunch has been listed as 18+. Always follow the age printed for your event, not the policy from a previous listing.

Can non-hotel guests use the pool?

Yes. Seasonal day passes, beds, sofas and cabanas are sold to non-hotel visitors, subject to availability. The pool normally operates from late spring into summer or early fall. Admission and reserved seating are priced separately, and the pool is adults-only. Holiday dates and premium sessions usually cost more than an ordinary weekday.

Do hotel guests automatically receive pool access?

Pool access is included with eligible hotel stays during the operating season, but a place to sit may still require an advance daybed reservation. Recent guests have warned that public day visitors can fill the reservable seating. Confirm the booking procedure before arrival, particularly for summer weekends, birthdays and holiday periods.

Is CODA Williamsburg wheelchair accessible?

Elevators provide access to hotel public areas and the rooftop, and accessible guestrooms include roll-in showers, grab bars, wide bathroom doors and wheelchair maneuvering space. Published material does not fully describe every event layout or the pool’s accessible entry equipment. Guests with specific mobility requirements should confirm the route and facilities before purchasing tickets.

Which nearby subway station has elevators?

Bedford Avenue on the L is the closest and most practical accessible subway station, approximately seven minutes away on foot. An elevator entrance is at Bedford Avenue and North 7th Street. Elevator outages can occur, so check real-time status before departing. Nassau Avenue on the G is similarly close but is not the preferred step-free option.

Where should I park for an event?

Street parking is possible but unpredictable because of loading zones, alternate-side rules and heavy evening demand. The nearby valet garage at 111 North 12th Street is the clearest paid option, with hourly, event and overnight rates. Budget roughly $20–$40 for many event-length stays, before event premiums or oversized-vehicle surcharges.

Can I take the ferry?

The North Williamsburg landing is at North 6th Street and Kent Avenue, around a 15-minute walk from CODA. The 2026 East River A route serves North Williamsburg from East 34th Street, Hunters Point South, DUMBO and Wall Street. It is scenic and useful for daytime arrivals, but service usually ends too early for late-night departures.

Is there a dress code?

There is no single dress code for every space. MEILI dining is generally polished casual, rooftop nightlife favors chic or club-appropriate clothing, and pool sessions require swimwear with footwear and a cover-up outside the water. Athletic jerseys, gym clothes and overly casual party attire may be discouraged during promoter-led nightlife events.

Can I bring a large bag or professional camera?

No permanent public bag measurement has been announced, but small bags are the safest choice. Large backpacks, outside alcohol, professional cameras, lighting stands and other production equipment may be rejected without prior permission. Security procedures are set event by event, so review the organizer’s instructions before leaving home and allow time for inspection.

Does the venue have food during events?

MEILI provides modern Sichuan dishes, dim sum and shareable plates, while rooftop and pool menus emphasize smaller bites and cocktails. Food service may stop before the event itself ends, particularly during late parties. Eat downstairs first if a full dinner matters, and do not assume every promoter-led event includes food in the ticket price.

Can I rent the venue for a private event?

Yes. Available settings have included the rooftop, restaurant, Beach Club, penthouse, common areas and smaller meeting rooms. The property hosts birthdays, weddings, dinners, product launches, corporate gatherings and cocktail receptions. Capacity, music permissions, catering, furniture and weather plans must be developed for the particular space rather than treated as one building-wide package.

How early should I arrive?

For ordinary dining, arrive at the reservation time. For general-admission nightlife, arrive 30–45 minutes before the promoted headliner if you want lounge seating and shorter security lines. Allow additional time on July 4, Halloween and summer Saturdays. Pool visitors should arrive at the beginning of their reserved session to receive the full value of the booking.
