About Todi Mill Social
Todi Mill Social is a bar, restaurant and event space located on the ground floor of the old Todi Mills warehouse in Lower Parel, Mumbai. Part of the Social (Impresario) chain, it opened in May 2015 as a casual co-working cafe/pub. The venue blends historic mill architecture with modern design – as one guide notes, it “fuses old-school Bombay with the upbeat new-age Mumbai” by keeping the original slanted tiled roof, wooden beams and exposed cast-iron framework intact . This gives Todi Mill Social a vintage-industrial vibe. The venue is fairly large (roughly 5,000+ sq. ft.) with a high ceiling under the old warehouse roof. It can hold on the order of 500–600 people standing , though seating is usually arranged around the perimeter. Today Todi Mill Social is known as a hub for creative crowds – the chain itself bills the space as “a collaborative workspace, a hub for artists, designers, and innovators…” – and it remains a popular spot in Mumbai’s evolving club and live-music scene. Its importance comes from both its historic setting (one of the few original mills left in Parel) and its role as one of the few large-capacity nightlife venues in the city, hosting cultural events while preserving the character of the old mill building .
Events and Programming
Todi Mill Social mainly hosts live entertainment and club nights rather than formal theatre shows. It’s especially known for electronic/techno events and international-style DJ nights. Many weekends feature hip DJs or electronic acts; for example, high-profile techno artists like Marcel Dettmann and Dauwd have appeared here, alongside top Indian dance music names such as Arjun Vagale and Zokhuma . These nights often draw both local club-goers and fans of underground electronica. In early 2023 the venue even hosted a two-day "Far Out Left" electronic music festival in the Todi Mills complex, a techno/acid event featuring top DJs – tickets were in the ₹2,000–3,000 range . Besides club/EDM acts, you may also find occasional live music variety nights or indie-band gigs (sometimes sharing a small temporary stage in the hall). However, by design Todi Mill Social does not have a permanent pro stage; performers often clear a raised seating area near the entrance to use as a platform. As one review observed, “bands perform in the line of sight of only about a hundred customers in a venue that can accommodate about 600 people” . This layout means shows are intimate — if you get close early, you’ll be right next to the action. Recurring events include themed club nights, anniversary parties and occasional cultural shows; the venue doesn’t have a fixed weekly schedule, so it’s best to check upcoming listings. Ticket prices vary widely: casual bar nights may have a modest cover (₹100–500), while bigger acts or festivals can run ₹1,000–3,000 per ticket (the 2023 two-day festival was about ₹2,000–3,000) . The crowd is generally young and trendy, enjoying dancing, food and drinks, with music often going late into the night.
Tickets and Booking
Tickets for events at Todi Mill Social are typically sold in advance, as popular shows can sell out. Organizers usually list events on major ticketing platforms (e.g. online event listings) as well as the venue’s official channels. Booking in advance is recommended for bigger shows; some events might even be sold out by the door once the night starts. General admission is common, though occasionally events have tiered pricing (e.g. early-bird vs. standard). There is no independent box office outlet on site – tickets are generally purchased online or via promoters beforehand. For last-minute plans, it’s sometimes possible to buy at the door if the show is not sold out, but don’t count on it for big-name DJs. Ticket prices reflect the act: door cover for typical club evenings is often a few hundred rupees, while headliner events or mini-festivals can run into the thousands . Keep an eye on official Social social-media posts or local listings for announcements (they often post on days or weeks ahead). Avoid buying tickets on unauthorized resale sites or at inflated rates. If you do have a ticket, double-check the entry rules (valid ID, dress code, etc.) before heading in. Some promotions or guest lists may exist, but these are rare at Todi Mill Social — most attendees pay the published ticket fee or cover charge.
Seating and Layout
The interior of Todi Mill Social is one big open hall under a high sloping roof, with no fixed theatre seating. Most nights are general admission standing room. Along the sides and near the back are dining tables and bar stools (this is primarily a bar-restaurant environment with food service), but these can be cleared away or not sold when a DJ or band is playing. The makeshift “stage” is usually an elevated sofa area by the entrance, which performers use facing into the room . This means the crowd stays on the main floor and in an upstairs mezzanine (if opened) to dance or watch. The best spots vary: close to the door gives a view of the performers, though sound is loudest around the central dance area. Since there’s no permanent stage, sightlines can be unpredictable – front-center is best for seeing the act, but back corners may be quieter for conversation. Acoustic-wise, the original tiled roof and wood beams actually help dampen echoes , so sound quality is acceptable for pop/electronic music. In general, the space is wide and rectangular, with atmospheric pendant lighting. There are no assigned seats or VIP boxes; however, some show organizers may section off a small VIP table or cabana for larger parties (confirm in advance if needed). Note that because it’s mostly standing room, comfortable shoes are a good idea if you plan to dance. In summary: plan for a lively, ground-level dance area with informal seating at edges – as one reviewer warned, “you might not get to see the gig properly” from a far corner , so arrive early for a good vantage point.
Getting There and Parking
Todi Mill Social’s address is 242, Mathuradas Mill Compound (Todi Mills), S.J. Marg, Lower Parel, Mumbai 400013 . It sits just off Senapati Bapat Road (near famous Cafe Zoe) in Lower Parel. Public transit is convenient: the nearest local train stop is Lower Parel station on the Western Line (about a 10–15 minute walk). You can also use Currey Road or Dadar stations (Central Line), with a short cab ride across. Several BEST bus routes stop nearby (for example bus numbers 2, 201, 52, A-162, A-63 go past Kamala Mills/Senapati Bapat Road ). Metro Line 3 (still under construction) is planned to pass close by in future, but is not operational yet. For drivers, parking in Lower Parel is very limited. Todi Mill Social does not have its own large lot, but it offers valet parking during events (staff will park cars for guests) . Even with valet, spaces fill up quickly on busy nights. If valet is full, you may have to park in nearby lots (e.g. near Kamala Mills or Kamala Parkade) or use street parking in adjacent areas – but watch for no-parking zones. Rideshare (Uber/Ola) drop-off is common: ask to be dropped at the gate on S.J. Marg (opposite Cafe Zoe/Blue Frog). Late at night, local trains stop around midnight, so taxis or rideshares are the main departures. In summary, the easiest way to reach Todi Mill Social is by taxi or ride-share, or by train to Lower Parel and a short walk, given the urban location.
Inside the Venue
On entry expect a ticket check or guest list verification with ID (passport or driver’s license/Aadhaar). Security staff may do bag checks or metal-scanning at the door. There is a single main entrance leading into the big hall under the old mill roof, with a box-office area at night where you can show tickets or pay cover. Inside, the vibe is rustic-industrial: bare brick walls, vintage wood furniture and club lighting. You’ll find a long bar on the side offering a full drinks menu (spirits, cocktails, beer, wine) – live music nights are bar service only (no outside drinks allowed). Social’s menu features international pub fare (burgers, pizzas, salads, Indian fusion dishes, etc.), so you can dine here before or during a show. Orders are at tables or at the bar; there is no on-stage service seats since it’s mostly self-contained. Wi-Fi may be available (Socials are known for offering internet for co-working), but during loud events it might not be worth using. Restrooms (washrooms) are located along the side of the hall; there is no separate lounge or green room for performers. The atmosphere is generally lively and dim, with spotlights on the performers, and dance music (or DJ beats) playing through a good sound system. A small merchandise counter may pop up for special events. You will not find a coat check – plan to keep valuables on your person or hang jackets on the back of chairs. Mobility-wise, the venue is mostly one level (apart from a small raised seating section). A ramped entrance has been installed, so the main floor is wheelchair accessible, though some corners and the small mezzanine may be harder to reach. Overall it feels like a trendy nightclub/bar with food service, so the customer experience is similar: order drinks from the bar, eat if you like, then hit the floor to dance or socialize.
Nearby Amenities
Todi Mill Social sits in a bustling entertainment district. Within the Todi Mills compound are other popular spots: right upstairs is Cafe Zoe (casual bakery/cafe open till evening), and nearby is Bombay Canteen (modern Indian cuisine, about a 5-min walk) and Soam (vegetarian Gujarati snacks). For pre-show dinners, you might try Cafe Zoe or the Bombay Canteen (valid, but book ahead as they get busy). The Phoenix Mills-Palladium mall (about 1 km away) offers restaurants like Farzi Cafe, Olive Bar & Kitchen or Indigo and is 10–15 minutes by cab. If you want a quick bar before the show, nearby Bars like Monkey Bar (Bandra, a 20-minute drive) or Bar Stock Exchange (SN Road) are city favourites. For post-show drinks or late-night food, the Lower Parel/KW Mill area has a few 24-hour eateries and hotels. Regarding lodging, Lower Parel itself has few hotels; higher-end options include The St. Regis Mumbai (right on Senapati Bapat Road, about 2 km south). Other nearby hotels include Novotel Mumbai (in Versova, 20-min drive) or Courtyard by Marriott (Worli, 15-min drive). Budget travelers often stay nearer to train hubs (e.g. Dadar or Kurla) and take a short taxi here. In any case, plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before showtime to find a parking spot or seat, and check transit schedules or book a cab for late night. Taxi/cab services (Uber/Ola) and auto-rickshaws are widely available nearby for back-haul. In summary: there’s no shortage of restaurants and bars close by (from cafes inside the mill compound to bars in Kamala Mills or Bandra), and Lower Parel’s hotels and transit connections make it reasonably easy to plan an evening out here.
What Makes This Venue Special
Todi Mill Social’s uniqueness comes from its industrial-chic setting and its role in Mumbai’s music scene. Architecturally, few Mumbai nightlife spots are in authentic early-1900s mills. The retained sloping tiled roof, wooden beams and imported iron girders give it a vintage atmosphere unlike modern clubs. Even the tile roof absorbs sound, as the Hindustan Times notes, naturally toning down echo in the big hall . Culturally, Todi Mill Social stepped in to fill a gap when older live-music venues disappeared in Mumbai. After popular places like Blue Frog or antiSOCIAL closed, Social (the chain) expanded Todi Mill to support independent music. As a result, it attracts artists and patrons who miss the old underground scene. Its interior décor – exposed brick, industrial fixtures and occasionally graffiti art – emphasize the creative vibe. Throughout the year it has hosted notable performances and festivals (for example, techno legends Marcel Dettmann and Dauwd) , making it a “must-visit destination” for electronic music lovers . For artists, playing here can be appealing because of that raw character and a dedicated audience. For audiences, the blend of history (“old Bombay”) with high-energy modern music creates a memorable ambience: as one write-up describes it, “a vibrant cornerstone of the city’s eclectic nightlife” that sponsors “cutting-edge electronic music” nights . In short, Todi Mill Social matters because it preserves a piece of Mumbai’s mill-era heritage while keeping the city’s contemporary music culture alive.
Visitor Tips and Information
If you plan to visit, here are some insider tips: Check age rules — the legal drinking age in Maharashtra is 25, so expect staff to ID bartenders if you want alcohol. Dress code is casual but neat; flip-flops or very sporty wear might be frowned upon on free nights. Phones and small cameras are generally fine for personal photos, but professional video or large DSLRs may not be allowed during shows. Carry a valid photo ID (passport or Aadhar) for entry. Bag policy: large backpacks or bottles are prohibited; only personal items. The music can get very loud, so bring earplugs if you’re sensitive or standing close. For comfort, dress in layers – the hall is air-conditioned on hot days and crowded nights, but you’ll warm up dancing. Favorite orders: the venue’s chicken burger and craft cocktails are popular (tripadvisor reviews often praise the bar menu). The staff typically wears friendly Social-branded tees, so if you have questions ask them. Accessibility: a ramp at the front entrance makes wheelchair access possible to the main floor , but aisle space can be tight when packed. Finally, try to arrive at least 30–45 minutes before ticketed start time, because doors may open early and the place can get busy quickly. Once inside, the coat rack is just behind the entrance (they usually hang jackets on hooks by the door). A good trick is to order drinks and food right away, then claim a spot near the stage or on the stairs overlooking the dance floor. And remember: Todi Mill Social is more “club with kitchen” than quiet lounge, so expect dancing beats and a lively crowd. By planning ahead and treating it like a club night, you’ll have a fun, hassle-free experience at this one-of-a-kind venue.

If valet is full, you’ll need to find nearby parking garages or street parking (which can be difficult in Lower Parel). Very casual wear like flip-flops, shorts or tank tops may be discouraged on busy nights. If in doubt, dress as if you’re going to a nice bar. Keep in mind some events may have themes; the promotional info will mention if special attire is required. In general, clean shoes and neat attire will help avoid any entry issues.
Are there age restrictions for entry?
Yes. The venue is primarily a bar/club, so entry is usually 18+ or 21+ depending on the event. Because the legal drinking age in Mumbai is 25, staff will check IDs (passport/Aadhaar) to verify age for everyone. If you plan to drink, expect to be at least 25. Some events (like all-ages concerts) might allow younger attendees, but you should check the event details first. Even for non-drinkers, carry a valid ID for entry.
Can I bring a camera or record video inside?
Small personal devices (phone cameras, small point-and-shoot cameras) are generally allowed in the venue for personal photos. However, professional cameras or video recorders may not be permitted during performances, especially without permission. Flash photography is usually discouraged once the show starts. Always check before any performance – if in doubt, ask staff at the door. If you plan heavy photography or video, it’s safer to confirm policy with the event organizer in advance.
Is Todi Mill Social wheelchair accessible?
The venue provides wheelchair access to the main floor via a ramp at the entrance. The hall itself is largely flat, so wheelchair users can get around the dining and bar areas. However, any elevated seating sections or stairs will not be accessible. Restrooms may not have full handicap modifications. In general, most of the action (dance floor, main bar) is on one level and reachable by wheelchair. It’s best to arrive early and inform staff for any assistance needed.
What is the bag or security policy at Todi Mill Social?
Expect a security check at the door. Large backpacks, outside food/drinks, sharp objects or professional video equipment are not allowed. Small purses or waist packs are usually fine. During event nights all bags are inspected or screened for safety. There is no cloakroom or baggage storage, so carry only essentials (wallet, phone, ID). If you have outerwear or a jacket, you may hang it behind the entrance, but nothing valuable should be left unattended. In short: keep it light and be prepared for a quick bag check before entry.
Where can I buy food and drinks inside Todi Mill Social?
Todi Mill Social has a full-service bar and kitchen. You can order cocktails, beer, wine or non-alcoholic drinks from the bar (credit/debit cards and cash are accepted). There is no room service or table service; simply order at the bar and they’ll bring your food to you. Outside food or drinks are not permitted.
Does Todi Mill Social charge a cover or entry fee?
Yes, most nights there’s a cover charge at the door, depending on the event. Typical club/DJ nights might have a nominal entry fee (e.g. ₹100–300), while bigger concerts or DJ acts can be ₹1,000 or more. This is separate from the cost of drinks or food. If you have an advance ticket, that usually covers entry. If you’re paying at the door, have cash or digital payment ready. Check the event listing; sometimes there are tiered prices (early bird vs late cover).
Why is it called “Todi Mill” Social?
The name comes from the location: Todi Mill Social is housed in the historic Todi Mills building in Mumbai’s Lower Parel mill district. “Todi Mill” refers to the old Mill’s name (Mathuradas Todi Textile Mill) which was converted to modern commercial space. The “Social” part is the brand (Social is a chain of cafes/bars). So the full name simply ties the Social brand to the Todi Mill location, reflecting the venue’s blend of old mill architecture with a social bar scene.
Is Todi Mill Social open on weekends or special holidays?
Todi Mill Social operates every day as a restaurant/bar, but live events are most frequent on Friday and Saturday nights. It often hosts special shows on public holidays or festival evenings (New Year’s Eve, etc). If you’re planning around a holiday, check social media or event listings to see if anything special is scheduled. Note that on major holidays it can get very crowded, so arriving early or getting tickets ahead is wise.
Can I walk in without a ticket and pay at the door?
It depends on the event. For less popular nights you can often walk in and pay the cover at the door (if not sold out). For bigger concerts or DJ headliners, tickets may sell out in advance. The venue does not keep a large standby line – if a sign says “Sold Out,” you won’t be admitted. To be safe on busy nights, buy a ticket online beforehand if possible. For casual evenings, walking in early usually works.
