Sell a gift certificate for your event

A buyer who wants to give a ticket as a present often cannot pick a date for the person receiving it. A gift certificate lets that buyer pay now and leaves the choice of who uses it, and when, until later. Venues and promoters can sell one worth a named ticket type or a fixed sum.

Sell a certificate worth a ticket type you choose or a fixed sum, set how many months it stays valid, and let the buyer decide who uses it and when.

Selling to buyers who want to give a ticket as a present

Antes de empezar

  • You're an owner or an admin on the event.
  • Gift certificates are turned on for your event. Where they are not, the page says so instead of showing the form, and Ticket Fairy can turn them on for you.
  • You have decided how long a certificate stays valid, because that is set per certificate and counted in months.
  1. Open the gift certificates page and start one

Open your event and select Add Gift Certificate.

Nota: Ticket certificates and amount certificates have their own tables on the page, so you can see what you already sell before adding another.

  2. Choose what the certificate is worth

    Choose the Gift Certificate Type.

    • Ticket: A certificate worth one named ticket type. The person receiving it gets that ticket whatever it costs on the day.
    • Amount: A certificate worth a fixed sum. The person receiving it spends it on whatever is on sale, and you offer several sums at once.
  3. Choose the ticket a ticket certificate covers

For a ticket certificate, choose the Ticket Type it covers.

Nota: Ticket Fairy fills in Item Price (average) from that ticket group, so the certificate is priced from the ticket price rather than a figure you keep up to date by hand.

  4. List the sums an amount certificate comes in

For an amount certificate, enter each sum you want to offer, pressing space or enter after each one.

Nota: Three or four round sums is usually enough. Every sum you list shows as its own row in the Amount Certificates table, and each can be removed on its own later.

  5. Set how long it stays valid

Set the Duration (months) from the day it is bought.

Nota: Choose a duration long enough that a guest given a certificate in December can still use it next summer. Twelve months suits a venue open all year; for a festival held once a year, match the gap between editions.

  6. Save it and check how it reads

Save the certificate, then look at the row it adds to the table.

Nota: A ticket certificate lands in Ticket Certificates with its price and duration; each sum on an amount certificate lands in Amount Certificates as its own row.

O deja que lo hagan por ti

Fai can list the certificates on an event, create one, change one, take one off sale and remove one. She shows you the settings and waits for your approval before saving, because a certificate is something buyers pay for.

Change or withdraw a certificate later

  1. Change what a ticket certificate is worth

Select Edit on its row in Ticket Certificates and change what you need.

Nota: A certificate a buyer already bought keeps the terms it was bought on, so a change here reaches the next buyer rather than the last one.

  2. Take a ticket certificate off sale

Select Edit on its row in Ticket Certificates and turn Enabled off.

Nota: No buyer can buy it after that, and every certificate already bought works until the day it expires. Turn Enabled back on whenever you want to sell it again.

  3. Take an amount certificate off sale

Ask Fai to take it off sale, or ask Ticket Fairy to do it for you.

Nota: Amount Certificates has one action of its own, which is Delete, so the setting behind Edit is not on that table yet. What it does is the same either way: the sums stop being offered and the certificates already bought keep working.

  4. Delete one no buyer has bought

Select Delete on the row of a certificate you no longer want to sell.

Nota: On an amount certificate this removes the one sum, and the others stay on sale. Removing the last sum removes the certificate itself.

Fai can change a certificate, take one off sale or remove one, and shows you what she is about to do first. She reaches the amount certificates the dashboard has no Edit for.

Preguntas que puedes tener

Can I sell both kinds at once?
Yes. A ticket certificate and an amount certificate are separate rows on the same event, and buyers see whichever you have on sale.
What happens when the duration runs out?
The certificate stops being usable. The duration is counted in months from the day it was bought, so two people who bought in different months run out on different dates.
Why can I not delete this one?
A buyer has bought it, and deleting it would take away what they paid for. Take it off sale instead, which stops further buyers and keeps every certificate already bought working until it expires. A buyer who reached the checkout and stopped without paying holds nothing, so you can still delete a certificate that has only those checkouts against it.
What happens to the certificates people hold when I take one off sale?
They keep working. Taking a certificate off sale only stops new buyers, so the person holding one can still use it up to the day it expires. Put it back on sale whenever you want to sell it again.
Does the price follow the ticket if I change it?
Ticket Fairy fills the item price in from the ticket group you picked when you set the certificate up. Check the certificate after a price change, because an existing one keeps the figure it was saved with.
