About Petersham Inn
The Petersham Inn is a historic pub-turned-entertainment venue in Sydney’s Inner West. Housed in an Art Deco building dating back to 1938, it sits at 386 Parramatta Road (corner Phillip Street), Petersham NSW 2049 . The first Petersham Inn on this site opened in 1860 and was rebuilt in 1906, then again in 1938 (with a striking Art Deco tower designed by Leslie Soden) . The Inn closed around 2000 and was later refurbished and reopened in 2006 . Today it’s a combined pub, sports bar and adult entertainment venue: at its core a laid-back sports bar by day, it transforms into a gentlemen’s club with exotic table-dance shows by night. The whole venue (including the “Strip Inn” club area behind the public bar) can accommodate roughly 230 people in total , about 200 seated. Its heritage status and distinctive façade make it a local landmark , and its owners even describe it as “Sydney’s hottest sports and show bar” (open 7 days) with an inside Gentlemen’s Club . Petersham Inn is family-owned (part of an independent group) and is well known locally as a lively community pub that doubles as a premium bucks/hen party venue with VIP service and a private club, as well as a place to catch live sports.
Events and Programming
The Petersham Inn is known for mixing traditional pub culture with adult entertainment and live sports. During the day and evening it broadcasts major sporting events on dozens of screens (the club boasts “28 TV screens” in total ). Regular daily coverage includes everything from Rugby League and NRL “footy”, Super Rugby (union), soccer, cricket and motorsports to UFC, boxing and tennis – all shown loud and live. Racing (TAB and Keno) also runs daily on Sky, with facilities in the bar . On top of this sports focus, Petersham Inn runs themed entertainment nights. For example, every Friday afternoon at 2:30pm and 3:30pm a “Showgirl Friday” program features rotating professional dance performers on its stage . The main strip-club section (called the Strip Inn) is active Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights with rotating strip and cabaret shows – one advertisement boasts over 50 strippers and topless waitstaff on those nights . Special parties and themed events are also common (past examples include “Sexy Saturday” nights, dollar-lapdance specials, “Cake & Corsets” parties, and bucks-party packages). Public announcements and past flyers indicate events with free entry nights and lap dances from A$20 . In short, regular programming includes all major live sports (often televised pub-style with no cover charge) plus weekly exotic dance routines and one-off themed parties, especially on weekends and holidays.
Tickets and Booking
There is no general box office or ticket outlet for Petersham Inn. Most nights are walk-in, pay-as-you-go, and do not require advance tickets. In fact, one club promotion explicitly promises “free entry to the Petersham Inn ALWAYS” on show nights, with guests only paying for their own drinks or dance services . However, private events and special packages (weddings, birthdays, stag/hen parties, corporate functions) are handled by reservation. The venue offers party packages starting around A$39 per head (often including reserved seating, food platters and a dedicated server for the group). To book one of these packages – or to reserve a table for a group – you contact the club directly (via the website form or by phone/text to their bookings line) . For popular weekends and themed events, it’s wise to reserve in advance, since large groups often snap up the limited front-row booths. On normal nights, arriving early will usually get you seating; otherwise tables are first-come, first-served. In summary: most users do not buy tickets ahead of time, except when signing up for a pre-designed party package. General entry is typically free, though individual services (like lap dances) have set prices (e.g. from $20 on promotions) .
Seating and Layout
The Petersham Inn is essentially split into two zones. The front area is an American-style sports bar: a roomy lounge with a long service bar, lots of tables and stools, and dozens of TV screens mounted around. The back area – known as the “Strip Inn” – is a self-contained club lounge with dimmer lighting and a raised catwalk stage featuring two stripper poles . In practice, sports fans and casual diners sit around the front bar or at tables under bright lights, while customers there for the dance shows choose seating in the back area near the stage. Tables and booths can be moved to face the stage. For those attending a show, the best seats are the front-row tables or reserved semi-circles right at the stage edge, which are often held for party bookings . In fact, party packages include “Reserved Seating” either in this club area or back in the sports bar depending on preference . If you arrive without a booking, open tables near the stage often go quickly on busy nights. On the other hand, some seats in the furthest corners or behind the bar can have obstructed views of the stage area. Acoustically, the place is designed for entertainment: music and show announcements come through the club’s sound system, while sports commentary is piped to the front bar’s speakers. Overall, plan to sit or stand close to the stage for the full show experience, or grab a high stool facing one of the large screens if you’re just there for the game.
Getting There and Parking
The Petersham Inn lies on Parramatta Road just east of where it meets Phillip Street in Petersham. By car, it’s easy to reach via Parramatta Road (the pub faces the road, on the corner of Phillip St) . However, on-site parking is minimal. Street parking is available on adjacent side streets, typically with a 2-hour limit. (For example, Charles Street and Hay Street within a 3–4 minute walk each have “Free 2 hours” parking spaces .) For longer stays, the nearest public lot is the Norton Plaza/Gibblett Grove complex about 800m (11 minutes) away, which also offers shopper parking (2 hours free) . The heritage Italian Forum shopping centre (at Norton St, 9 minutes’ walk) is another option with many takings spots .
Inside the Venue
Expect a bustling pub atmosphere. On entry you’ll be ID-checked (18+ only) . The friendly bar section is bright and lively, lined with booths, high tables and the main bar counter (in fact the Inn has two full bars). The pubs’ amenities include a sports betting room (TAB) and active Keno draws . A jukebox and multiple gaming machines (poker machines) are also onsite . Food-wise, the Petersham Inn tavern runs an in-house bistro/diner – their “Petersham Inn Diner” – with a menu of pub classics. It even offers daily specials (for instance $10 meal deals every night and $5 steaks on Sundays ), plus cheaper party platter options if booked ahead. Many patrons grab dinner before or during the game screenings.
Nearby Amenities
Petersham is a changing neighborhood, but you’ll find everything needed within walking distance. Right on Parramatta Rd there are several fish-and-chips and kebab shops and Asian eateries for late-night bites. A few doors down is the Petersham RSL Club and the Public House Petersham (a live-music/burgers pub) – both popular locals. Highly recommended is Norton Street (just a few blocks south on Enmore Road), the main shopping strip of Petersham: a long row of cafes, Italian pastarias and cocktail bars. (The Italian Forum mall on Norton St, less than 10 minutes away by foot, has family-friendly pizza and pasta restaurants .) The nearby Inner West Light Rail now terminates near Norton Plaza, linking to Dulwich Hill. Hotels: there are no large hotels right on Parramatta Rd, but Petersham diners often stay a few stops away in Newtown (e.g. Ibis Styles Newtown or the Urban Newtown) or in the CBD (Newtown is ~3km east). If you arrive early (late afternoon) the area has cafes and takeaway shops for pre-show snacks. Taxis and rideshare cars regularly circulate on Parramatta Rd late-night if you need a ride home after 1:30am (the venue closes around 1–1:30am on weekends).
What Makes This Venue Special
The Petersham Inn stands out in Sydney for its rare combination of history, architecture and distinctive entertainment. Its 1938 Interwar Art Deco architecture is practically unique among pubs – in fact a heritage plaque marks the famous high tower on its corner . This classic style was preserved even as 92 modern apartments were built behind it in 2001 . The result is an iconic building that locals recognize by sight. Culturally, it’s also an Inner-West institution: from the 1940s through the 1960s Petersham was a key working-class suburb, and old newspaper photos even show the Inn in one of Sydney’s wildest pub riots (a 1947 brawl in which police drew pistols as 200 onlookers gathered) . Today the Inn’s focus on sports and adult shows makes it a one-of-a-kind nightspot. No other local venue mixes a full sports bar with a 2-pole table-dancing club on site. It’s both forward (hosting live UFC and major sporting events) and nostalgic (staying true to its “pub” roots). Locals love it for big social events – e.g. it’s a go-to place for bucks/hen parties – in fact the owners market themselves as the “king of hot girls, cold beer & unbelievable party events” with packages for every budget . Bright lights, a big screen and booming music turn it into a party every Thurs–Sat. In short, this venue’s special mix of heritage design, round-the-clock sports viewing and high-energy live shows gives it a personality unlike any other pub in Sydney.
Visitor Tips and Information
Be prepared for an 18+ adult environment. You must bring valid photo ID (passport or driver’s licence) for entry . There is a strict dress code: footwear and shirts are required in the club area (speedos, flip-flops (“thongs”) and singlet tops are not allowed on club nights ). Women are welcome to attend – the FAQ explicitly states “Absolutely!” to “Are girls allowed?” – but note it is not a family venue. No cameras, phones or any photos/videos are permitted once inside (this rule is enforced to respect performer privacy). You can tip dancers, but you have to pre-purchase “tip money” from the bar . If you plan to party, book early: the venue gets very busy after 8pm on Fri/Sat. During big sporting events (Big Race day, NRL finals, UFC PPVs, etc.), the place fills up fast, so arriving early is wise. On regular nights arrive by 7pm to get decent seating. The club opens Thursday nights at 7:30pm and Friday afternoons at 12:30pm (Saturday again from 7:30pm) , so check the schedule if you want the first show. The sports bar opens daily at 10am for lunch and general drinkers . Finally, respect the house rules: carry a minimal bag (there’s no cloakroom), follow any seating signs, and enjoy responsibly. Many visitors find the staff and DJs very friendly – just remember, this is a nightspot and not a quiet dining room. With valid ID, a bit of cash or a card, and sensible attire, you’ll fit right in and get the full experience.

Is parking available near the Petersham Inn, and what are the costs?
Street parking is very limited. Nearby side streets like Charles St and Hay St have free 2-hour parking spaces (about 3–4 min walk) . The Petersham Inn itself has no private lot. For more parking, the Norton Plaza/Gibblett Grove car park is ~800m (11 min walk) away and offers a couple of hours free parking . (All local street parking is generally time-restricted to 2 hours.) Because of this, many visitors prefer public transport or rideshare when coming at night.
What is the seating layout, and where should I sit for the best view?
The venue is split into a front sports bar area and a rear club lounge (“Strip Inn”) with the dancing stage. Best views of the performances are from the front-row tables or booths right in the Strip Inn section near the stage . If you’re there just for sports or drinking, you can sit elsewhere in the bar. Reservations (especially group bookings) often come with “reserved seating” either near the stage or in the sports area . Avoid seating in back corners far from the stage if you want to watch the shows.
What is the age limit and do I need to bring ID?
Yes, Petersham Inn enforces an 18+ age rule. You must be at least 18 to enter, and a valid photo ID (driver’s licence, passport, etc.) is required at the door . No one under 18 is permitted inside the venue – not even in the dining area. This applies at all times of day and night.
Is there a dress code to enter the Petersham Inn?
The dress code is fairly relaxed but with a few strict rules after dark. On club nights (Thursday–Saturday evenings) flip-flops (“thongs”) and tank tops (“singlets”) are not allowed . Also, brightly colored high-visibility workwear is discouraged after 8pm. Essentially, casual smart attire is fine – think jeans and shirt, closed shoes. If in doubt, err on the side of tidy casual. The pub side during the day has no formal dress requirements beyond common decency.
Are visitors allowed to take photos or videos inside?
No. The Petersham Inn has a strict no-photography policy inside the club. All flash or video recording is banned to protect performer and customer privacy . Staff will typically prohibit the use of cameras or video phones during performances. You can use your phone casually at a table, but don’t point it toward the stage or try to capture any shows.
Can women attend events at the Petersham Inn?
Absolutely. The club is open to all genders. According to the FAQ, “girls” are welcome in the club, and women frequently attend in groups or couples . While the shows are oriented toward a male audience, female patrons do go in to enjoy drinks, token dances, or just accompany friends. It is not males-only by any means.
How do I tip the dancers at the Petersham Inn?
Tips for dancers are handled via the venue’s token system. You purchase special “tipping dollars” at the bar or from staff, then hand these over to the dancer as a tip. (This is explained on the website: you “simply purchase our Tipping Dollars from behind the bar” to give to performers .) Cash tips can also be given face-to-face, but the token system keeps everything official and conveniently pre-paid.
Is food available at the venue, and what are the dining options?
Yes. The Petersham Inn operates a full sit-down bistro (“diner”) with pub-style meals. The menu includes burgers, steaks, ribs, sharers and similar comfort food. The venue often runs value deals (e.g. $10 meals nightly) and even has $5 steak specials on Sundays . In practice, guests often arrive for dinner or bar snacks (chicken wings, fries, etc.) either before or during the shows. The kitchen typically closes around 9–10pm, but the bar remains open after that.
What drink and entertainment facilities are available?
The venue has two busy bars serving beer, wine, spirits and cocktails (including an “exclusive cocktail menu” ). All major Australian beers are on tap or chillers, and there’s a stocked spirits selection. As noted, there is also TAB/racing terminal and Keno for betting. A jukebox and video gaming machines add to the offerings . For entertainment, live sports are broadcast on large screens all over the pub , plus the nightclub-quality sound and lighting system is used for the strip shows in the evening. There is no formal stage lighting in the sports area, since that space is for dining and TV viewing.
What is the capacity of the venue, and how many people does it hold?
The licensed capacity is on the order of a few hundred. According to event listings, around 200 seats are available (with additional standing room) and up to ~230 people can be accommodated when the club is full . In practice, a packed weekend show night might approach that 200–230 range, split between the main bar and the back Strip Inn lounge.
What are the opening hours of the Petersham Inn?
The sports bar is open every day: 10:00am–12:00am (midnight) Mon–Wed, 10:00am–1:30am Thu–Sat, and 10:00am–10:00pm Sunday . The separate table-dance club hours are Thu 7:30pm–1:00am, Fri 12:30pm–1:00am and Sat 7:30pm–1:00am . (These hours mean you can drop in any afternoon for drinks or sport on weekends, and enjoy the adult shows in the evenings.)
